00:00Stage six of Giro d'Italia women for 2024 take the riders over a total of 159 kilometers one of the longest stages in recent memory and on another hot day was set to be a particularly arduous day in the saddle as the riders made their way out of the seaside resort of San Benedetto del Tronto on the Adriatic coast moving from one valley to another.
00:30Up and down sawtooth profile throughout the day and the jersey holders as they have been on the previous days at the front of the peloton led away by Elisa Longoborghini in pink as she has been since the outset of the race on day one last Sunday.
00:45Narrow advantage just three seconds over the points leader Loretta Capecchi heading into this first of three mountain challenges set to be a really tough and difficult conclusion to the race over the final three stages.
01:00Destination point Chieti at the end of 159 kilometers first appointment along the way the intermediate sprint after 48 kilometers taken without too much difficulty by Arlenis Sierra and attacks from Femke Geritse from the SD works squad among others and the EF Oatley Cannondale squad also putting riders up the road and showing intent Vallieris clearly on good form.
01:30She infiltrated a strong group and the peloton dwindling in size as the day went on three categorized climbs along the way and a climb the penultimate climb of the day being reached with 41.3 kilometers to go at which time peloton was still compact albeit significantly reduced in size.
01:58Blanka Vas the Hungarian champion trying to get back in after an awful lot of legwork over the last few days Paulina Royaker showing good strength and cresting the penultimate climb of the day to take top points at least shall be a difficult moment as she crashed painfully.
02:18Swiss rider had been part of a group that included a lot of Capecchi who was of a mind to keep the pressure on make it as difficult as possible Elisa Longa Borghini never straying far from the wheel of the world champion and the leader of the points classification.
02:36Capecchi again on the chase of a four rider group that had formed after the penultimate climb of the day and Anna Santestavan in there for the Labrol squad.
02:49Rihanna Lippert for Movistar human powered health represented by Ruth Edwards and Erika Magnaldi from UAE team ADQ putting it up to the chase group with Brodie Chapman on chasing duties for a little track and the overall race leader Elisa Longa Borghini.
03:05Into the final five kilometer ramp up into the Finnish town of Kieti Anna Santestavan wilting under the pressure put on on the front of the breakaway by Erika Magnaldi.
03:17Guyarei Alini setting the tempo for the overall race leader but it was a lot of Capecchi that would begin the attacks and drawing the overall race leader Elisa Longa Borghini clear and then Longa Borghini herself showing just how much strength she had as she tried an attack of her own.
03:35Those two riders drawn back into the group of favorites dwindling in size but they didn't get on terms with the breakaway three riders surviving from that four rider breakaway and Rihanna Lippert crowning her comeback from injury Movistar squad getting a victory and Rihanna Lippert a fine success just ahead of Ruth Edwards and Erika Magnaldi.
03:57Elisa Longa Borghini showing her strength in the finale to lead in the group of general classification favorites for a fine fourth place on the line but it was Lippert who was celebrating the most.
04:09Movistar teammates absolutely thrilled with that return for the 27 year old German rider.
04:17Lippert mounting the top step of the podium accepting the plaudits of the crowd after her victory ahead of Ruth Edwards and Elisa Longa Borghini heading into Queen stage of the race with a three second advantage over a lot of Capecchi.
04:28Cecilia Utrecht-Ludwig still in third place Capecchi still leading and indeed extending her advantage in the points competition over Kjarik and Sonny.
04:37Clara Emond still leads the mountains into the final two stages out of Ghecchiara now in second and Antonia Niedermeyer still leading the young rider category ahead of the blockhouse to come on the penultimate day of racing.
