Artist who revamps towns with colour has transformed high street

An artist who revamps towns by painting houses different colours has transformed a 'once dull' high street into a 'vibrant canvas'.

The street in Tredworth, Gloucester, has undergone a colourful transformation - thanks to creative Tash Frootko, 45.

The local artist, who has been painting houses in Gloucester since 2018, embarked on her journey to ignite an arts scene in Gloucester and inspire others to contribute to the city's beautification.

With 72 buildings transformed with bright painted colours, Tash is celebrating the renewed Tredworth high street as her 'biggest project to date'.

00:00Welcome to High Street Treadworth Gloucester. We're about to finish my seventh transformation
00:05project in the city. So this has been my biggest project to date. It's taken four months to
00:11decorate a one-third of a mile street in the Treadworth area of the city. So up until my
00:18fourth project I self-funded and now I'm starting to receive some funding but I do also contribute
00:24financially to each of the projects. Most of the houses do need some repair work but most of them
00:29we can add these beautiful colours and murals to turn the street into the most decorated street
00:34in the city. It's always the person that lives in the house's first choice with the colour
00:39but sometimes I can give them a little bit of creative guidance maybe to go for something a
00:43little bit more vibrant than what they've chosen or for something that they might not have thought
00:46about in the beginning. So this is an absolute dream canvas for creatives. It was really a blank
01:01canvas and what we had here was a remarkable history of this area. One of the things that I
01:08loved was actually bringing back some of the history of the street which was within the ghost
01:12signs of the shops that were here before and we've managed to reinstate two of those signs now
01:18and they are definitely some of people's favourite artworks. The final mural which we're doing at the
01:23moment is an embodiment of all of the different colours that we've used on the street and that's
01:28what we're creating at the moment here as our final piece. You know I always think halfway through a
01:33project that you know what am I doing because it literally I give up my life for these projects
01:38and the city but I can see what a huge impact it's having on the city of Gloucester and we're
01:43creating these beautiful streets now and people love what we're doing. I do have somewhere in
01:48mind for next year because I can only do one project a year because I do all this voluntarily
01:53so it can't be something that I do on a full-time basis but wait and see.
