About Graffiti Walls (Glasgow Council release)
The primary objective of this proposal is to create legal graffiti walls in Glasgow, serving as a platform for local artists to display their skills and creativity while promoting a positive and inclusive environment. This initiative aims to address the following goals:
Encourage artistic expression: Provide a legal outlet for graffiti artists to express themselves through their art forms, promoting creativity and self-expression within a controlled environment and support existing initiatives, such Glasgow Life Artists in Communities.
Foster community engagement: Encourage community involvement by inviting local residents, businesses, and organisations to participate in the development of these areas.

00:00Hi, my name is Joanna, but everybody knows me as Jo.
00:22Jo, what do you think of the legalisation of these walls behind you?
00:26I think it's absolutely amazing.
00:27It's nice to see, instead of empty, horrible walls, something that's artistic and is beautiful
00:33to look at.
00:34I'm a big fan of graffiti and I think it's just beautiful, it brightens up the town,
00:39it does make it look much better.
00:41The more the better, if they can change it up all the time, I'll be coming and seeing
00:45every time it gets changed.
00:46Would you kind of just walk down this way, just to kind of see if there is any changes
00:49on the walls?
00:50Yes, absolutely.
00:51That's the reason why we're passing by today, is because I want to come and see the new
00:54art.
00:55Keep it going.
00:56My name is Lorraine and I'm from Prestatyn in North Wales, and this is my first time
01:00here in Glasgow.
01:01What's your feelings on the council, have made it legal for the artists to use these
01:06walls?
01:07What do you think?
01:08Is that a good idea?
01:09Oh my god, it's amazing, I love it.
01:10In fact, I'd like this sort of thing in Prestatyn, to be honest with you, because I love graffiti
01:17art when it's done properly.
01:19So many people see it as a negative, and I'm like, no, it brightens up and makes things
01:24pretty.
01:25For me, as long as they're not breaking windows, trashing things, because we have a lot of
01:30antisocial behaviour where we are at the moment, if they were allowed to do this, I think it
01:34might help.
01:35What do you think of the variety on show?
01:38It's amazing, I love it.
01:39In fact, before you stopped us to talk, I was just saying to Penny, oh my god, this
01:44is amazing.
01:45I thought it'd always been here, to be honest, but yeah, it's really good.
01:49Hi, I'm Penny and I'm from North Wales.
01:52I think it's brilliant.
01:53I think it's what cities like this need.
01:55I feel like, obviously, people need a way to express themselves, and it's a way to do
02:01it without vandalising other places, really.
02:04I think it's great.
02:05It's so colourful, and everyone has their own styles, and it's just, it's great.
02:12Some of them are really funny, and some of them you just look at and you're like, it
02:14blows you away.
02:15Do you think it kind of adds to the fabric of the city?
02:18Yes, definitely.
02:19Definitely.
02:20It's such a diverse city anyway, and I think that it just shows that in all the artwork.
02:26Do you see that the council maybe can open up other walls to the artists if this is a
02:30success?
02:31Yeah, I think it's a great idea.
02:32I think it should be in every city, everywhere, because like, having a small space like this
02:36is great, but the city is so big and diverse that it will be everywhere anyway, so I think
02:43opening more spaces would be a great idea.
