Ex-CEO fined RM15,000 for abuse of power

A former chief executive officer of a government-linked subsidiary in Melaka was fined RM15,000 by the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court, Melaka on Friday (July 12) after pleading guilty to abuse of power for appointing his daughter to the company in 2021.

00:18Fifty-eight-year-old Amir Ali was slapped with an alternative charge, namely, on his
00:24own behalf, making arrangements concerning the total salary payment of 13,750 ringgit
00:32received by his daughter, whom he had appointed to the position of financial officer at Malacca
00:37Halal Hub Sendirian Berhad.
00:40He committed the offence on April 1, 2021.
00:44Amir's lawyer, Azrul Zulkifli-Stork, requested the court to impose a minimum fine, saying
00:50his client has to support a large family.
00:53However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamed Azrif Firdaus Mohamed Ali asked for a punishment
00:59commensurate with the offence.
01:01Judge Elisabeth Payawan ordered Amir to serve six months in jail if he could not pay the
01:07fine.
