00:00Stage 5 of Giro d'Italia Women for 2024 would take the riders over a total of 108 kilometers

00:13from Frontenay to Foligno, billed as the second and final opportunity for the sprint stars

00:20An up and down route but substantially flatter than previous days and certainly a lot flatter

01:50the points classification and indeed the intermediate sprints classification along the way and that

01:57intermediate sprint proving an ideal springboard to an attack by the rider who was the hero

02:03of stage two Magalhaes of the B-Pink squad.

02:11Elevatoria Magalhaes from Brazil clear of the field for a sustained period but never

02:16opening up an advantage of more than half a minute.

02:19She was overhauled by Marta Isiechkowska from the WNT-Ceratizit squad missing clear of the

02:27field the Polish national time trial champion spending an extended period out front albeit

02:34she too never opening up a margin of more than half a minute with Chantal Vandenbroek

02:40Black on the front of the peloton the former world champion keeping things tight for the

02:46Team SD Works pro time squad.

02:51Into the closing stages and the final 30 kilometers substantially downhill series of difficult

02:58roundabouts to be negotiated intermediate sprints winner Silvia Zanardi coming to grief

03:03and that would put paid to her chances of challenging into the final group sprint something

03:10that had seemed inevitable at the start of the day eventually came to pass.
