00:00And another player who has maybe not hit his full maximum potential on the international
00:07stage this summer, Phil Foden, certainly deserves a mention, but he's shown signs of why he
00:13won the Premier League Player of the Season award and going into this new season you feel
00:16as if he's got another level to take his game to. Obviously we mentioned how he's played
00:22back up to a few City players over the last few years, but it does almost feel like this
00:26is his time to shine for City.
00:30Yeah, I think he knows it as well. He said in an interview last season that he wants
00:37to be the man. You think about what an incredible career Phil Foden's had up to the end, he's
00:46only 24, but he's always played back up to the main stars at City, De Bruyne, Haaland,
00:53David Silva back in the day, Sergio Aguero, even Bernardo Silva. Foden's always felt
00:58like he's fitted in around them. And even the fact that he's played so much of his career
01:01out wide is probably a testament to that as well. But I think we're at the stage now where
01:05Foden is kicking all these other players out of the way and saying, no, no, I am the man.
01:10I single-handedly win football matches. Okay, look, but we're talking after a year or in
01:16the midst of a year or so, after six games, he hasn't scored a goal or had an assist.
01:20I admit that earlier in the tournament, he wasn't brilliant, but I don't necessarily
01:25think that's his fault. I think it was partly the way he was utilised by England and by
01:28Southgate. And you see him playing in that semi-final against the Netherlands, playing
01:33in a kind of a role that suits him. He's just outstanding, certainly in the first half.
01:38Even again, I thought the second half of the system didn't massively suit him a little
01:41bit, but he's just an unbelievable football player who's bringing his standards and his
01:47levels to new heights. And I think it's really interesting going into this season. I mean,
01:51to Broina, I think there's a bigger question about what kind of role he's going to play
01:55next season. But I really think Phil Foden's going to be the man. And I think it's interesting
02:00to see that he's never approached the season as the main star in a team and how he deals
02:05with that sort of pressure. And I think he'll be fine with it. I thought it was interesting
02:08that he said in two interviews during the Euros, he said something along the lines of,
02:13I don't look like the player, I don't look like the best player in the Premier League,
02:16talking about the fact that he was voted the best player in the Premier League last
02:20season. But I thought there was a certain level of arrogance to that. And I mean that
02:23in a good way as well. Shoulders up, real confidence to him as well. And even yesterday
02:32he said after the Netherlands game, something along the lines of, yeah, that was me looking
02:37like the player I am, something along those lines. And he's got real confidence. And I
02:43think it's going to be a huge season for him. And we were just talking about Rodri,
02:46but the two of them, I think Foden's getting into the stage now where we're talking about
02:50him as one of the best players in the world as well. So I think if he can have a big impact
02:55on Sunday's final as well, that will only help with his reputation.
