An incredible season for Foden.
Transcript
00:00 Phil Foden, let's just give him another mention this season. We could reach the back end of
00:09 the season and think back that has there actually been a better player in the league this season?
00:14 He's definitely in the top three or four, surely, you'd think. Just a bit about him
00:20 and how important he's been for Guardiola's side and how much he's actually progressed
00:25 over this last season to become that main character in the City squad. That's quite
00:32 an achievement.
00:33 Yeah, he has been a joy to watch this season. He's just so much in want in a footballer.
00:38 It's just his pace, his vision in the ball, his ability to produce game-changing moments
00:45 and the numbers for goals and assists he has. It's been fantastic to watch. In the derby,
00:49 that first goal was just outrageous. We had a great view of it from the press box as well.
00:54 It's just like an arrow into that top corner.
00:58 I think Phil Foden, as a fantastic player, has always played second fiddle, hasn't he,
01:03 in his career to De Bruyne, to David Silva, to Sergio Aguero, Erling Haaland, all these
01:08 players. But now he is trying to stump a claim to say, "No, no, I'm the main man. Move aside,
01:15 guys. This is my team." He wants to be the first name on the team sheet. I think the
01:20 reality is he is still second fiddle behind De Bruyne and Haaland. It was only a week
01:25 ago we were talking about that Luton game, and they won 6-2. That was certainly the narrative
01:29 coming away from the game that night. They said they've got a lot of players, but these
01:33 two are still the main guys.
01:35 I just think Foden has... If he's the third most important player in this team, and I
01:42 mean, Rodger would have something to say about that, as would John Stones actually as well.
01:46 But what an asset to have as the number three attacking player. It's just incredible, the
01:54 quality that City have in that team. I think for Foden as well, he is just reaching a point
02:01 that as De Bruyne is slowly starting to slow down, although probably not a huge amount
02:05 of evidence of that in the last couple of weeks, but De Bruyne will only naturally start
02:09 to slow down in the next couple of years, and City have their man to just step into
02:12 that void. The way he's playing at the moment is fantastic. He probably is the player who
02:16 will win the season in my eyes. I think Ollie Watkins would have something to say about
02:19 that maybe. I think Arling Holland as well. You would kind of forget how incredible his
02:24 numbers actually are. I know it's not quite the same as last season, but he's not far
02:28 from goal of the game, is he?
02:30 Yeah, it's been an interesting one. I think in the next couple of weeks we'll obviously
02:34 decide who is the player of the season, but probably for me at the moment, Foden would
02:37 just nick it.
