00:00We're going to review the epitome of cars.
00:03This is the kind of car that you bring to a car show that is, if you're the top dog,
00:08you're the best guy on the block.
00:10The kind of car that puts you in a level higher than any other car out there.
00:14And today we're at the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, New Hampshire to review and see
00:19what it's like to drive a lowrider.
00:23And yes, today we're going to be reviewing the best cars in the market.
00:31Behind me is a 59 Cadillac DeVille, it is a four-door.
00:36What hasn't been done to these cars?
00:38These cars are literally the epitome of what cars are.
00:42These aren't just cars that are done up.
00:45These are not only a lifestyle, they're a community.
00:49If you've ever done anything with lowriders, you'll know that this stuff is incredible.
00:54What kind of history and community and everything that they put together, they built over time.
01:00I hate to actually review just one car because when I see one car, I don't see one car, I
01:06see a group of cars that ride together and cruise.
01:09Even now, we're coming up on 2020 and these guys are still rolling exactly how they did
01:15when I rolled with them back in the 80s.
01:17So it's amazing.
01:19I've never actually had the experience though to actually drive one.
01:23I've never had the experience to give the information to you to put everything out there
01:28on a perfect platter so you can take a look at it and see what it's like.
01:32Well today we're going to do that.
01:34First we're going to see what it's like to drive.
01:37Second we're going to look at the cost of building a vehicle like this.
01:40And then third, we're going to look at the different pitfalls that this car may have
01:44that no other vehicle like it has.
01:47So stay tuned.
01:48We're doing it right now.
02:01Alright guys, I am behind the wheel of this magnificent vehicle and I am actually nervous
02:09to even press drive for this.
02:12There's so much stuff going on here.
02:14I've got a sound system, I've got oil pressure, water pressure, and I've got 1, 2, 3, 4...
02:18I've got 10 gauges here that control the lift of the car up and down.
02:23So let me try to lift it a little bit.
02:25Okay, so just a little tap.
02:29Oh, I'm going to lower that a little bit though, right?
02:36Okay, so there's a bank of controls to my right.
02:41The top ones control the whole movement of it and the bottom ones can control each wheel.
02:48So I got that.
02:49And I'm not going to be driving too crazy fast with this.
02:51It's got a drag plate on the back.
02:53So we're just going to...
02:54I've got to be careful with the brakes.
02:55Reverse, neutral, drive.
02:56Does that drive?
02:57Alright.
02:58We're going to find out.
03:11Okay, so the first thing I notice instantly is I want to lay back in the back and fall
03:18asleep.
03:19The seats are amazing in this.
03:21And there's a certain stiffness to the suspension system in this that I've never felt in any
03:29other vehicle.
03:30Okay, so with the hydraulic system, things are a lot more controllable.
03:35And that's the thing is, I feel like I need to have some sort of class to be at the level
03:42to understand this whole thing.
03:44There is no way from the short time that I've been in this car that I would know enough
03:48to actually control this adequately.
03:50So I'm kind of deferring a little bit to the owner to make sure that I'm at the right ride
03:54height, that it's something that's comfortable.
03:56So there's a 472 engine under the hood.
03:59So like any car that was a luxury car, the 472 is a big torquey engine.
04:05It definitely has the ability to push this heavy car around without any trouble whatsoever.
04:10And that's one of the things that these cars have.
04:13It's a big car.
04:14If you remember our 66 Caddy, that was another car, big and heavy, needed a big torquey engine
04:19to kind of push it around.
04:21But this car, no problems whatsoever.
04:24I love the growl.
04:26The roof of this car is chopped two and a half inches.
04:30So you can tell that my head is right up against it.
04:35And that's one thing that if this is something that you're looking at doing down the road,
04:38you want to make sure that you're aware that anything with this, it's going to be right
04:43up against your head.
04:44So you tall guys out there, just remember, I'm all back and no legs.
04:48So it's kind of easier for me, but in the same respect, I'd have to do a lot of adjusting.
04:54So that's one thing that I didn't expect.
04:56When I first got in the car, I was really, really afraid of it.
05:00I really didn't know what to expect, especially from the hydraulics, especially from being
05:04low.
05:05It has a drag plate on the back.
05:07There's a lot of stuff going on with this car.
05:09So I was really scared of it.
05:11And when I drive it now, I'm just two minutes in the lane.
05:15I'm still, it's going to take me a while to even think about using a hydraulic setup on
05:19it.
05:20A lot of experience, but in the same respect, everything else pulled right in, drove it,
05:25no problem.
05:26I'm very happy with the way it worked out.
05:28Okay, so what is it like to drive?
05:46Well, it's kind of stiff.
05:47The hydraulic system in it makes things a little bit solid, but the road feel of that
05:53solidness was actually really good.
05:55You could still hear the skid plate kind of banging back and forth, but the bumps, the
06:00ride, the road conditions, to be honest, I really wasn't worried about a lot of that
06:05stuff.
06:06It felt really good.
06:07One of the things that I really got out of it was, is you're really inundated by the
06:12suspension system.
06:13There's a ton of controls in it that you have to get used to.
06:17There's things that you have to get adjusted to, acclimated to.
06:21But once you get that, which I think it's kind of a learning experience.
06:24Once you get that done, everything is perfect and I think everything is dialed in.
06:28I think if I had probably 20 minutes to sit down just focused on doing the controls and
06:33doing that other stuff, it would have been a breeze to drive.
06:36And the other thing is, is it's got the lower top, so it's a little bit close to your head,
06:40but the experience was completely enjoyable.
06:44It's definitely a cool car.
06:46Ride quality was like a nine or a 10, if you can believe it.
06:50The interior feeling was a nine or a 10.
06:53It was actually something that I don't think any kind of street car could actually offer.
06:58It was a vehicle that I could get in and just say, you know what, I'm driving and I'm going
07:02to have fun.
07:03And I can see why there's a community based around these that says, we're just going to
07:07go cruise.
07:08And that really is what this car is.
07:10It's got an engine in it that's huge, but in the same respect, I feel like it rumbles
07:15and roars.
07:16And the fastest I'd ever go with it was 30 and 40 miles per hour down a strip someplace,
07:20waving at people as I went by and stopping to get ice cream or, I mean, like, where's
07:25a root beer stand where I can get like a root beer float.
07:28That's, I mean, it's screaming at me to go do it.
07:30And I'm having everything within me right now just to just not jump in the car and say
07:34to hell with them.
07:35And we're just going to go have some fun.
07:36So just like our other Cadillac, here's another vehicle that is very tough to get in the whole
07:41shot.
07:42This car is about 19 feet long and it's just amazing.
07:46So what are the costs associated with this?
07:50And I really thought long and hard about giving you a number, but this car cannot be calculated
07:58in dollar signs.
07:59It can only be calculated in time.
08:02So if I were to compare a normal car show to the kind of car shows that these guys have,
08:08a normal car show compared to a doctor's office would be a bunch of nurses.
08:15These guys are the brain surgeons.
08:18They're not just a car group.
08:22They're a fraternity of people that come together to enjoy their cars as one.
08:30This isn't just a labor of love for one person.
08:34This is effectively 20 or 30 years of one person's passion combined with a countless
08:41amount of other people's passion to bring together what you see here.
08:46From the flake paint, the hydraulics, the chop top, there is so much in this car that
08:54to put it into a number, it's priceless.
08:57If you want a car like this, my suggestion is start turning wrenches now.
09:01Start understanding paint.
09:03Start finding yourself a community.
09:05This is not a solo thing.
09:07This is something where you've got to find guys that are just like this.
09:10Join with them and trust me, they're the friendliest group of people I have ever seen.
09:15I've been and seen not only this group, which is the kingpins, but I've also seen the other
09:22groups that are associated with these guys and they just open the door and bring you
09:27right on in.
09:28The only thing that they really require, I think, is to have the same passion as they
09:32do.
09:33So if you have that passion and you're looking to do something like this, then I would suggest
09:37finding a club, finding a group, picking out a car, and get to turning on it.
09:43Because like I said, this is not something I can put into money.
09:45It's something that is going to be about experience.
09:47Alright, so what is the upkeep like on these vehicles?
09:51Well, it's an old car.
09:53It's got a ton of custom work.
09:55If you're going to own a car like this, with this kind of paint, you need to have, I take
10:00a detailing class.
10:01I would take something where you know how to clean it.
10:04This thing has a rug for a dash.
10:06It's not something that you're going to say, hey, I'm going to take it down to the local
10:09shop and go through the drive-thru cleaning thing.
10:13It's just not going to work.
10:14So you have to be ready for that.
10:16The other thing is that with these older cars and with the kind of tolerances that you're
10:20changing with these vehicles, there's a lot of things that you want to be aware of.
10:24So you're going to have to basically be some sort of mechanic to get an understanding of
10:29what you're looking at.
10:30So if you're the kind of person that does your own oil changes, you're probably going
10:33down the right path.
10:34If you're the kind of person that needs a dealership to fix your car, probably not your
10:40speed.
10:41One of the things that we were joking about earlier was that when you're driving down
10:45the road and you smell something, you want to know what that smell is and what it's attached
10:49to.
10:50If you hear a piece of metal bouncing off the road someplace while you're driving down
10:54the street, you want to make sure you know if that's part of your vehicle or part of
10:58somebody else's vehicle.
10:59And that's something that you become aware of in the ownership of this vehicle.
11:06So you become kind of part of it.
11:08It's more like a horse than a car.
11:10So it's something that you're attached to, that you're genuinely interested in, and that
11:16you're passionate about.
11:17So like I said, if you're the kind of guy that wants to do everything with cars like
11:20me, this is the kind of car for you.
11:23It's definitely going to give you a lot of work to do, but it's probably going to be
11:26the most rewarding work you've done.
11:30Just sitting out here filming today, we've probably had 10 people drive by snapping pictures.
11:35So the thing is, when you have a vehicle like this, you're going to stand out, so you're
11:39going to have to put in the effort to stand out.
11:42This is like a high-maintenance model, for instance.
11:45If you want to get married to somebody that nice, and you want to have this at your side,
11:50then you're going to have to put the work in to do it.
11:52This is a lifelong passion, and that's why a lot of times I look at it as, it's a car
11:57I'll own when I'm retired.
11:58Alright, I want to thank you guys for tuning in.
12:11I have to say that this is an experience that I've been waiting to have for a very long
12:16time, and without a doubt, not only did it not disappoint, there were certain expectations
12:20I have, but certain things about it that it shocked me.
12:23And I have to say, this vehicle touched me somewhere deep that no other car has really
12:29gotten to me at.
12:31It's something that, like I said, it's a passion.
12:33With this, that if you take it to 11, you can really understand it.
12:39But if you've never experienced it, if you've never done it, there's something that you're
12:43missing in your car show life.
12:44So if you're a car guy at some point, experience one of these things.
12:48See what it's all about.
12:49See what it's like.
12:50I want to thank this 59 Cadillac for doing what it did for me today.
12:56I hope you guys get the same kind of experience with it.
12:58So I want to thank especially the Kingpin CC for bringing this stuff out to us and being
13:04some of the best guys out there, for being super friendly, and just, it was awesome.
13:10The other thing is, is if there's some videos over here, I want you to be able to take a
13:13look at, so don't miss some other episodes.
13:16And thank you guys for watching, man.
