00:00Every day, where the little engines were, the crisper is suddenly filled with a familiar noise.
00:07The lakes and mountains have many visitors, and Harold the Helicopter flies the sky making sure that no one is in trouble.
00:18All present and correct. Time to return to base.
00:22Then, Harold noticed something. A sturdy diesel was coming round the mountainside.
00:30Harold flew lower for a closer inspection.
00:35I'm Harold. Who are you?
00:38I'm Rusty, replied the diesel.
00:40Don't recall seeing you before. What brings you this way?
00:43The Fat Controller sent me to help the other engines, huffed Rusty.
00:48This was no time for a chat with a helicopter.
00:51Well done. Cheers, and keep up the good work.
00:56Cheeky chopper, muttered Rusty.
01:01Not long now, encouraged the driver, we'll soon be at the top station.
01:08Peter, Sam and Sir Handel were glad to see Rusty.
01:12Even so, Sir Handel wouldn't stop grumbling.
01:16The trucks didn't like Sir Handel and wanted to play tricks on him.
01:26No one understands our feelings, sympathised Gordon.
01:30Now, if you were ill, you couldn't shunt trucks, could you?
01:34Good idea, replied Sir Handel. I'll try him.
01:39He did so the next morning.
01:41I don't feel well, he groaned.
01:44There wasn't time to examine him, so some of his trucks were coupled behind Peter, Sam's coaches.
01:50Rusty promised to follow with the rest.
01:53Peter, Sam didn't mind the extra work.
01:56He left his coaches at the station and trundled cheerfully on.
02:03Soon, they reached the quarry where the trucks were needed.
02:08Empty trucks at the bottom of the slope are hitched to a steel rope.
02:12Loaded ones at the top are hitched to another.
02:15By their weight, loaded trucks run down the steep slope pulling the empty ones up.
02:28Peter, Sam duly waited at the bottom of the slope for the loaded trucks.
02:32He never bumped trucks unless they misbehaved.
02:35But the loaded trucks couldn't see him properly.
02:38They thought he was Sir Handel.
02:41A chance for trickery had come.
02:44Faster, faster, they yelled.
02:47No, no, wailed the empty trucks, it's Peter, Sam.
02:51But it was no use.
02:53Hurrah, hurrah, roared the trucks.
02:56Peter, Sam shut his eyes.
03:12Beep, beep, wailed Peter, Sam.
03:16Rusty was working nearby and came to help clear up the mess.
03:20Bus, my buffers, exclaimed Rusty.
03:24Never mind, Peter, Sam, we'll get you out.
03:30Peter, Sam felt battered.
03:32His funnel was cracked and his boiler dented.
03:35Thank you, Rusty, he sighed and went slowly home.
03:42I'm sorry about your accident, said Sir Handel.
03:45I always stand well back, trucks don't like me.
03:48Why didn't you warn me?
03:50I didn't think.
03:52You never do.
03:54You can start thinking now while you're doing Peter, Sam's work as well as your own.
03:58That'll teach you to pretend you are ill.
04:01Sir Handel did start thinking about Gordon.
04:06When the wreckage was cleared away,
04:09Rusty set off along the line.
04:17Splendid to see you again, whizzed Harold.
04:20I'm completing my evening's lookabout.
04:23Well done, replied Rusty.
04:25Keep up the good work and the little diesel purred back home.
