00:00:00Hello, one and all, and welcome to another thrilling season of Dimension 20.
00:00:04I'm your humble dungeon master, Brennan Lee Mulligan.
00:00:06With me for the very first time are our questing queens.
00:00:09Say hi, questing queens.
00:00:10Hi, questing queens.
00:00:13That's right.
00:00:14Welcome to Dungeons and Drag Queens.
00:00:17Oh, my goodness, how excited we are.
00:00:19Let me introduce for the very first time our amazing guest,
00:00:22Mona X.
00:00:23Hello, everyone.
00:00:24I'm your humble dungeon master, Brennan Lee Mulligan.
00:00:26With me for the very first time are our questing queens.
00:00:29Our guest, Mona X Change.
00:00:31Hi.
00:00:32Alaska Thunderfuck.
00:00:34Bob the Drag Queen.
00:00:35Hello there.
00:00:36And Jujubee.
00:00:37Woof.
00:00:38Oh.
00:00:39Oh, thank you.
00:00:42We're getting this started off in exactly the right tone.
00:00:46We couldn't be more excited to have you all here in Dimension 20
00:00:48for this tale of adventurers, heroes, and the underworld.
00:00:55Four such heroes now journey along the Gallows Road.
00:01:00These travelers, having met just a few nights before
00:01:04at a tavern called the Fish Tank,
00:01:07where after a massive brawl broke out,
00:01:10the four of them realized that each of them
00:01:13had their own reasons for journeying to the Temple of Wraiths
00:01:17and a fabled legendary entrance to the underworld itself.
00:01:23Their reasons for their journey are their own,
00:01:26but together they stand a greater chance
00:01:29of braving the perils of the realms beyond.
00:01:34Without further ado,
00:01:36I invite all of you to envision the realm of Kelvorda.
00:01:43Tall mountains framed in shadow
00:01:48with thick mist of lavender and indigo hue.
00:01:53As night falls, distant howls of wolves
00:01:57or perhaps creatures stranger still can be heard.
00:02:02The mountains of shadow rise,
00:02:04ancient and glooming like faceless gods of old
00:02:09that gaze imperiously down on the Gallows Road.
00:02:14Love the gaze.
00:02:18You see before you the Gallows Road,
00:02:20a long and ancient highway bounded on either side
00:02:23by tall grass and sinister trees and a forest primeval.
00:02:29Sinister trees.
00:02:30The woods have stood here long
00:02:32as the age of empire fell into disrepair some time ago.
00:02:36These lands have become wilder
00:02:39with monsters and bandits afoot.
00:02:42The long road from Darktide approaches the village of Greeley,
00:02:48a humble hamlet at the foot of Mount Basira,
00:02:52a mountain depicted here in front of the board
00:02:56with the Temple of Wraiths atop it.
00:02:59The temple to a long-forgotten goddess of death
00:03:04is said to contain an entrance to the underworld
00:03:09where demons lurk and the souls of the dead can be found.
00:03:14And somewhere in legends long lost,
00:03:17the goddess of death sits atop an ancient throne,
00:03:21willing to grant boons to those travelers and heroes
00:03:25brave enough to find her lost kingdom.
00:03:29What's boons? What's boons?
00:03:31A boon is a wish.
00:03:32Okay. Grant's wishes.
00:03:33No, I'm like, I'm laying it on thick here up at the top.
00:03:36Let me take these notes down real quick, baby.
00:03:39Like my foundation, it's on thick.
00:03:44Our heroes have banded together,
00:03:46journeying on the road to the village of Greeley,
00:03:48the last village before you enter the mountains themselves
00:03:52and the fabled Temple of Wraiths.
00:03:55The village of Greeley is perhaps another hour or some away
00:04:00as you journey on this road,
00:04:01but we need to know who's traveling on this road.
00:04:05We need to first see and meet them.
00:04:08So I'd like to go around and have each of you
00:04:10tell me your character's name and describe them.
00:04:12Monet, we'll start with your character.
00:04:14My name is Twyla.
00:04:16I'm Twyla.
00:04:18Twyla.
00:04:19The season one works in identity theft.
00:04:23My name is Troianne.
00:04:25I am assassin from the merfolk.
00:04:28I am half merfolk, half human, and I am elvish.
00:04:32I have come from a long night's work.
00:04:35I have a fresh kill in my satchel
00:04:38and I've been alive for 242 years
00:04:41and I have long seeked death and have not found it,
00:04:44but I continue to work.
00:04:46This noble assassin of the sea
00:04:51journeys alongside her three companions
00:04:55and you think of the kill the night before.
00:04:59A red mist encircles a special amulet
00:05:04within your satchel
00:05:06and we are going to journey back in time
00:05:09to when you first received your soul keeper amulet.
00:05:14I invite you all to envision the place of Troianne's youth
00:05:19where she first grew and learned the art of archery
00:05:23and fighting, of combat, and of magic.
00:05:27We behold Everdeep, the city of merfolk.
00:05:31Kind of looks like Brooklyn.
00:05:33Very similar in some ways to Brooklyn.
00:05:38Everdeep is a city shrouded in eternal darkness
00:05:41so deep beneath the waves
00:05:43that sun never finds its place here.
00:05:46Instead, eerie lights like the glowing of bioluminescent moss,
00:05:52strange twinkling lights from kelp and seaweed
00:05:55as shadows move in the coldness of Everdeep
00:05:59and we see the throne room of Queen Inira, your mother.
00:06:05My mother.
00:06:06Oh.
00:06:07Sitting on a throne of spiked coral,
00:06:11her hair tied with glowing seaweed
00:06:15stretches for 30 feet behind her
00:06:17emanating in the currents of the water
00:06:20fanning out across the entire wall of the throne.
00:06:25Not the extension, she better work.
00:06:27Bundles.
00:06:2830 feet.
00:06:29Wow.
00:06:30Not 40 inches.
00:06:31She can't beat.
00:06:32It's actually Brazilian yaki.
00:06:34Brazilian yaki seaweed.
00:06:36Yes.
00:06:37Your mother sits on the throne
00:06:39which is hard for a couple reasons.
00:06:42Number one, you're underwater
00:06:43so just sitting down on anything is sort of challenging.
00:06:46She has no legs.
00:06:47She's dense.
00:06:48Sort of a fish, mer, folk, tail.
00:06:51But she claws her bejeweled hands
00:06:54into the armrests of the throne.
00:06:56Encrusted in pearls and diamonds.
00:06:58Of course, naturally.
00:06:59And she unclasps and removes an amulet from her neck.
00:07:04Gems tied in a deep, dark ocean grass
00:07:10containing polyhedral gems scratched with time.
00:07:14This artifact is ancient beyond words.
00:07:17And you see that these gems for now are empty.
00:07:21She looks at you, her daughter.
00:07:24Troyan, my daughter.
00:07:27You have completed your training
00:07:29in the art of our court's assassins.
00:07:34You have fared better than I thought you could.
00:07:38We have not spoken in some time of your father.
00:07:44A warrior of the land,
00:07:46very few of which have ever made their way to Everdeep.
00:07:50The heroism that brought him here,
00:07:53I see living within you.
00:07:57I am proud of you, daughter.
00:07:59Thank you, mother.
00:08:00You have many gifts.
00:08:01Gifts to walk on land and to swim in the wide sea.
00:08:07But with these gifts comes a terrible burden.
00:08:12What is that?
00:08:13Everdeep is dying, Troyan.
00:08:18Our way of life,
00:08:20at the beck and call of ancient things
00:08:23that live even deeper still beneath the waves.
00:08:29I know long you have wondered
00:08:31what this amulet of mine is for.
00:08:34I was wondering what that was about.
00:08:36Yeah, I know.
00:08:37Sometimes it's partially red,
00:08:38and sometimes it's not red.
00:08:39It's purple.
00:08:40I'm like, what does it do, though?
00:08:41Yeah, I know.
00:08:42I'm canny about it.
00:08:43I should probably be more open.
00:08:45Do we not talk like this enough?
00:08:47We don't, we don't.
00:08:48I'm so sorry.
00:08:49That's on me.
00:08:50Because Cousin Jacinthia said
00:08:51it was from the pawn shop on the land,
00:08:52so I don't know.
00:08:53Jacinthia said that?
00:08:54Yeah, what'd she say?
00:08:55Well, she doesn't know
00:08:56what the fuck she's talking about
00:08:57because I got this from a witch,
00:08:58so it's not a pawn shop.
00:08:59I mean, there might be a witch at a pawn shop,
00:09:01but I got this from a real sea witch.
00:09:03Witches can work anywhere.
00:09:04They can work at pawn shops.
00:09:05People try to get them out of the pawn shop business,
00:09:09but they actually do have that skill set.
00:09:12If I told you that I had made
00:09:14a terrible bargain for our people
00:09:17and that to preserve our way of life,
00:09:20our city and our realm owed a terrible debt
00:09:25to some dark beings,
00:09:27would you look down on me for having made that deal?
00:09:30I would, but Father warned me
00:09:34of how you would behave,
00:09:36and I'm ready to take on the task
00:09:38that you are needing of me.
00:09:40If I live in your contempt, so be it, daughter,
00:09:43but the task is still yours.
00:09:45And she releases the amulet that floats to you,
00:09:49and she says,
00:09:51seven souls,
00:09:53seven souls with each season.
00:09:55You must journey to the underworld
00:09:58to pay the debt we owe
00:10:00so that Everdeep may remain safe.
00:10:03You will come to the village of Hollowgrave
00:10:06on the other side of the portal.
00:10:08There, you will make your bargain.
00:10:10Who shall accompany me on this journey?
00:10:12By myself?
00:10:13I can't go on land, I'm half fish.
00:10:15Well, you made your choices.
00:10:17I didn't make a choice to be half fish, all right?
00:10:20That's just, that's the cards I was dealt.
00:10:22What about fish tanks?
00:10:23There's fish tanks.
00:10:25It might be hard.
00:10:26You might have to go and find some friends.
00:10:28Oh.
00:10:29It's probably gonna be hard for me to do that, too.
00:10:31Go find some friends, Troyenne.
00:10:33You're very charming.
00:10:34I'm sure you'll make them right away.
00:10:35I'll do what I must.
00:10:36And we return to the journey on the Gallows Road.
00:10:40Troyenne is saucy.
00:10:42Not for a mother.
00:10:43Right, how you gonna touch your mama like that?
00:10:45You don't know what I've been through.
00:10:47I used to have human bitches be really in these streets.
00:10:49Must be nice to go on land and walk, must be nice.
00:10:51Up where they walk, up where they run.
00:10:53I like to stay all day in the sun.
00:10:55You know what Ariel would give to walk one day?
00:10:57Her voice.
00:10:58And indeed, who would Troyenne find to accompany her?
00:11:02And who else would be brave enough
00:11:05to face the perils of a journey to the underworld?
00:11:08Well, I have in mind some heroes who may be brave enough.
00:11:11Alaska, would you go ahead and describe your character
00:11:13and give us your character's name?
00:11:15Sure, also, I love that song, Ever Deep Mountain High.
00:11:18It's so good.
00:11:20I appreciate that.
00:11:22It's so good.
00:11:23The way it was written by Tuna Turner.
00:11:25Yes, totally.
00:11:27Tuna Turner!
00:11:30My character's not elvish,
00:11:32but she is an elvish impersonator sometimes.
00:11:35No, I'm just kidding.
00:11:37No, my character's name is Princess,
00:11:39and she is really tall.
00:11:41She's like eight feet tall,
00:11:43and she's an orc barbarian,
00:11:45and so she's really big and kind of scary looking,
00:11:50but she thinks she's really cute and tiny and little and petite.
00:11:54Is she petite for an orc or is she even big for an orc?
00:11:57No, she's gigantic.
00:11:59Even for orcs.
00:12:01I love that.
00:12:02Supermodel.
00:12:03Now, were both of her parents big,
00:12:04or she's like a genetic anomaly?
00:12:07Yeah, runs in the family.
00:12:09And speaking of running in the family,
00:12:13Princess, as you walk,
00:12:15broad, powerful shoulders,
00:12:18and armored brassiere, scrunchie,
00:12:21and I believe, according to your character art,
00:12:23a nice pink tutu as well,
00:12:25you carry a mighty double-bladed greataxe in your hand.
00:12:30Your family have all been tall and great and mighty,
00:12:35which makes the horror of the last night you remember
00:12:40where you saw them alive.
00:12:43I invite you all to envision a scene
00:12:45in Princess's past as well,
00:12:47where we see Castle Ravenspear,
00:12:50the ancestral home of the Foehammers,
00:12:54the family of Princess,
00:12:56your father, Renarion,
00:12:58your sister and brother, Duchess and Earl,
00:13:01your family, flames roaring high.
00:13:07Princess, you remember the night that your family,
00:13:10all except for you, were slain.
00:13:14In your memory as you walk along the road,
00:13:17there were many moments that night
00:13:19and many miraculous turns of fortune
00:13:21by which you survived.
00:13:24What's the moment that you think Princess
00:13:26goes back to the most in her head
00:13:29when she remembers that night?
00:13:31So what, they were like burned down?
00:13:33Your ancestral castle was burnt.
00:13:35It was burned down.
00:13:37That's really sad.
00:13:40I think the moment that she remembers
00:13:42is like when she came home
00:13:44and she like saw the blaze.
00:13:47You remember that one of your servants
00:13:49clarenced, grabbing your arm,
00:13:51Princess, you must not go in there.
00:13:53The fire, it is out of control.
00:13:55There has been some betrayal.
00:13:56Please, you cannot punch the flame away.
00:13:59Not betrayal.
00:14:00You did it for the insurance money, didn't you?
00:14:02No, not me.
00:14:04You see-
00:14:05Oh, you're betrayed.
00:14:07In your memory, Clarence is going,
00:14:08please, Princess, I know you wish to save them.
00:14:11It is too late.
00:14:12Please do not burn.
00:14:13You or your gorgeous, scrunchie.
00:14:17No!
00:14:21Princess, no!
00:14:23Your servants pull you back
00:14:24and you remember that fire
00:14:26and remember the confusion
00:14:27around how something this horrifying
00:14:29could have happened.
00:14:30As we return to the Gallows Road,
00:14:34Princess, I'm gonna ask us
00:14:35for our first roll of the game here.
00:14:39Oh my god.
00:14:41So exciting.
00:14:42Yeah.
00:14:43Princess, if you would take your D20,
00:14:44which is the one on the farthest to your left,
00:14:47and I'd love you to roll that
00:14:49and you're gonna roll a Perception check for me.
00:14:52Okay.
00:14:53Perception is one of your skills
00:14:54on your list of skills
00:14:55and there's a number that you're gonna add
00:14:57to whatever you roll on the die.
00:14:59Okay, Perception.
00:15:02Will you blow on it?
00:15:04What do I say Perception?
00:15:05It says good luck.
00:15:06Okay, it's the first roll, okay.
00:15:07I don't know where Perception is,
00:15:08but okay, oh my god, oh wow, it rolls a lot.
00:15:10Okay, because there's 20 sides.
00:15:12Okay.
00:15:13At least 20 times.
00:15:14At least 20 times.
00:15:15I rolled a 12.
00:15:18You rolled a 12
00:15:19and if you look on your character sheet,
00:15:20you'll be able to see on that list of skills
00:15:22to the far left, there's all those little words.
00:15:25Perception is towards the middle.
00:15:27Plus five.
00:15:29So 12 plus five is 17.
00:15:31That's a pretty high roll.
00:15:33Princess, as you gather on the road,
00:15:35you, your barbarian senses activate.
00:15:41You smell fire.
00:15:45But almost a familiar fire.
00:15:49Something triggers that memory in your head
00:15:53and you smell something like a type of smoke.
00:15:57Most, when buildings burn,
00:15:58it smells terrible most of the time, right?
00:16:00There's like a lot of things in there
00:16:01that are non-organic that are burning.
00:16:03But there's a smell that you remember from the night
00:16:05that burns something almost pleasant
00:16:07that made the memory even a little more horrifying.
00:16:09A smell of cedar burning.
00:16:11And you smell that now.
00:16:12Oh no.
00:16:14That's like the same,
00:16:15so the same people who burned my family up
00:16:18are around and doing it to somebody else.
00:16:20I think that would, yeah.
00:16:21That occurs to Princess in this moment.
00:16:24Cedar.
00:16:25Perception.
00:16:26C-T-O-D.
00:16:29And it smells like it's coming
00:16:30from the direction that you were traveling.
00:16:32So you have a sudden sense of,
00:16:33ooh, there's maybe some mystery there
00:16:35in the village of Greely.
00:16:36Okay.
00:16:37As you continue down the road,
00:16:38Bob, could you please give us your character name
00:16:40and describe your character?
00:16:41Yes, her name is Gertrude.
00:16:43Gertrude is a bit of a loner.
00:16:45She has, ever since her family
00:16:47cast her aside for being far too powerful.
00:16:50They were afraid of what kind of power she might wield,
00:16:53so they asked her to go live alone in the woods,
00:16:55and she did as she was told.
00:16:58She's a very, very powerful sorceress.
00:17:00She spends her time studying, reading,
00:17:03learning how to be magical,
00:17:04and she has an inherent magical capability.
00:17:07She's also an incredibly dapper dresser.
00:17:09She's always dressed like she's going somewhere nice.
00:17:12She doesn't have a lot of clothes,
00:17:13but the ones she has are very, very nice.
00:17:15She's also been around for a very, very long time.
00:17:18She's a bit sardonic because of it.
00:17:22I think I'm using the right word.
00:17:24She's a little bit jaded, if anything.
00:17:28She's kind of over it all by now.
00:17:30Her hair has now completely whitened
00:17:32because of her age.
00:17:33It went from black to gray,
00:17:35and now it is just completely white.
00:17:37Her skin has darkened to literally black,
00:17:40so there's a stark contrast between the two,
00:17:43but she still maintains keeping up her appearances
00:17:46because when she does venture into the world,
00:17:49she still wants to be respected.
00:17:51Now, tell us about your D&D character.
00:17:52What a monster.
00:17:57You're a monster.
00:17:59Incredible.
00:18:02Gertrude, you travel with your new companions as well
00:18:06for the same reason,
00:18:07and again, though all of you have different reasons
00:18:09for seeking what you seek,
00:18:10you know that you share the same quest.
00:18:14A cottage far from any town by a lake
00:18:18where a young magical woman fled
00:18:22from those that did not understand her terrible gifts.
00:18:26Your witch's hut,
00:18:28where you are able to practice your magic in peace
00:18:30far from the eyes of those who do not understand
00:18:32and do not wish to understand,
00:18:34looks over a serene lake,
00:18:36but unlike most mornings in this memory of yours,
00:18:41you heard a knock at the door.
00:18:43We gotta credit Bob with SFX.
00:18:47In stereo.
00:18:52You hear a voice outside saying,
00:18:54I'm so sorry, Madam Gertrude,
00:18:58if thou livest in the hut,
00:19:00my name is Johann Trembly.
00:19:02I come from the village of Harper,
00:19:04some two days travel hence.
00:19:06There is legend of a witch who lives here
00:19:08and practices her sorcery.
00:19:10Have I come in vain?
00:19:13One moment, please.
00:19:14She goes and grabs her jacket,
00:19:16puts it on, leans in,
00:19:18pulls her hair into a nice, tight ponytail
00:19:21around her antlers,
00:19:22makes sure they're presented,
00:19:23and then she stands back about 20 feet
00:19:26and the door flings open.
00:19:28Make sure there's wind flowing through,
00:19:30so she looks quite intimidating.
00:19:32Incredible.
00:19:33A quick use of the thaumaturgy cantrip
00:19:35and boom, the door flies open.
00:19:37The light shifts in your hut
00:19:39and you see there's a young,
00:19:40he's just wearing like a wool vest,
00:19:42like a just raw fleece vest,
00:19:44got a little sort of peasant's hat,
00:19:46little thatched blonde hair, skinny looking guy,
00:19:48just goes, ah!
00:19:50And then she waves her hand and goes,
00:19:52oh, hi, how can I help you?
00:19:55I have not seen such unnatural spells of the light.
00:20:00My name is Johann Tremblay of the village of Harper
00:20:03and I have come to seek a spell
00:20:09and I am a humble peasant.
00:20:16Get it out, don't be afraid.
00:20:18I have come seeking a spell
00:20:20and though I am poor
00:20:22and can give no gold or treasure,
00:20:24I have thought as much that I can give a warning
00:20:29as my payment.
00:20:32All right, well, I don't practice magic for money.
00:20:35I practice it because I'm good at it
00:20:36and it has helped me survive.
00:20:38So I'll take your warning.
00:20:40Well, depending on what do you need?
00:20:43You see that he takes a fragment of a skull
00:20:48out of his bag
00:20:51and you see that the skull is sort of just
00:20:53the top part, one eye socket and a bit of jaw
00:20:56and he looks at it and says,
00:20:58this is my great great granddad Norbert.
00:21:01Oh, God.
00:21:03We found a clue in our old farmhouse
00:21:07that there might be a treasure buried somewhere
00:21:10but Norbert couldn't find the map of where it was.
00:21:14There was an adventurer a long time ago
00:21:16who made a treasure
00:21:18and we thought it's possible that you could ask him,
00:21:22look at the skull, find his thoughts and memories
00:21:25if there are any attached to this skull here.
00:21:29Not sure if it's possible
00:21:30and absolutely no worries if it's not.
00:21:33It's a quick two day trip by foot.
00:21:36It was absolutely something I could handle.
00:21:38Gertrude storms over to the cabinet,
00:21:40throws them open and grabs a jar of salt.
00:21:43The salt is a light blue color.
00:21:45She sprinkles it into the floor on a circle
00:21:48and she says, place the skull in the middle,
00:21:50you stand there with it and think of your grandfather.
00:21:55You see he looks down and gives the little skull like,
00:21:58sorry, granddad
00:21:59and puts it in the middle of the circle of salt.
00:22:02Should I go turn my back?
00:22:05Oh no, you stand there, you close your eyes,
00:22:07you think of your grandfather and I'll do all the rest.
00:22:10All right, sorry, granddad.
00:22:12So Gertrude waves her hands
00:22:14in a way that feels absolutely magical.
00:22:17She's going up, her hair is flying everywhere.
00:22:20The windows have blasted open.
00:22:23There's thunder, but it's just specific to this area.
00:22:26If you're like 10 feet away, you wouldn't even see it.
00:22:28It's just in this area.
00:22:30The room's swirling, her stuff's falling over,
00:22:32her hair is flying, the coat is just flying in the air
00:22:36and then she goes, I have the answers you seek.
00:22:42I didn't see anything, but I felt the wind.
00:22:44It seemed like something incredible was happening.
00:22:46There was a lot.
00:22:47It was mad.
00:22:48I wish you could have, but it was really fierce.
00:22:50No, I don't want a situation where I like-
00:22:52Because it'll get in your eye, the salt.
00:22:54Understood.
00:22:55The magic divines to you, Gertrude.
00:22:57Indeed, you see that this farmer-
00:22:59Carl, that's Carl.
00:23:03You see that this farmer's basically,
00:23:06probably the great grandfather,
00:23:07did bury a small chest of gold somewhere on their farm.
00:23:11So Gertrude sits down at her desk,
00:23:14she pulls out an old tea-stained piece of paper,
00:23:18a feather, dips it in ink,
00:23:20her eyes roll to the back of her head
00:23:22and she quickly scribbles up a map,
00:23:25draws the whole thing, rolls it up,
00:23:27she hands it to him and says,
00:23:29and by the way, your grandfather was gay.
00:23:33Wow, that's, honestly, that's great to know.
00:23:37Did he ever, did he ever find somebody or was it-
00:23:40No, he kind of kept it a secret.
00:23:42And he told me,
00:23:44maybe you don't have to keep it a secret either.
00:23:47Just throw that in the air.
00:23:49You see, Johann just sort of quivers his lips
00:23:51and he's like,
00:23:52I could not have imagined this visit going any better.
00:23:55This is absolutely huge for me.
00:23:58Wow, there was honestly, even as a kid,
00:24:01I remember great-grandpa and it was like,
00:24:03he would say some stuff sometimes
00:24:05and I'd be like, I think, does he, is there,
00:24:07does he know something?
00:24:09Oh, Gertrude.
00:24:12I will give you this scroll and this map,
00:24:14it'll tell you exactly where to find it
00:24:16and I don't need any other payment besides a warning,
00:24:18but just remember me
00:24:20if I ever ask you for anything in return.
00:24:23Wisps of magic shadow wrap around the room.
00:24:27Gertrude's generosity is a powerful,
00:24:30magical effect in and of itself
00:24:32and this farmer and his family
00:24:34will know of this favor that they owe
00:24:36for a long time to come.
00:24:38He takes the map and says,
00:24:40your generosity is the stuff of legends.
00:24:43In our village, there came a woman
00:24:46with a garrison of soldiers, some 10 men-at-arms.
00:24:50She did not give her name,
00:24:52but called herself an inquisitor of the glaring sun.
00:24:57She asked if there were witches nearby
00:25:00and seemed to some to have the bearing of a witch hunter
00:25:04and knowing that you have lived here for many years
00:25:07and though we are two days away in Harper,
00:25:10no harm has ever come to us, our crops grow well,
00:25:13so we know that you are not yourself a wicked witch
00:25:15and do not mean us harm,
00:25:17so none, none gave her any information,
00:25:20but she did come looking
00:25:22and she spoke specifically of a witch
00:25:25that she asked if she had been here for many generations
00:25:29and we asked how that could be
00:25:31and she said, some witches cannot die.
00:25:37And how long ago did you see this woman?
00:25:39Some fortnight past, maybe 11 or 12 days ago.
00:25:44Thank you for this warning.
00:25:46I see that I am no longer safe in this place.
00:25:49This is not unusual to me.
00:25:51Every few decades, I do have to pick up shop
00:25:55and move somewhere else.
00:25:57Gertrude begins frantically running around the room,
00:25:59packing up as many things as she can,
00:26:01potions, pills, books, salts,
00:26:04packing them all into what looks like it wouldn't fit,
00:26:07but it just kind of all magically fits into this,
00:26:09kind of like a backpack.
00:26:11A satchel?
00:26:12Yeah.
00:26:13Two straps?
00:26:14Yeah, two, yeah.
00:26:15One over each shoulder fits perfectly,
00:26:17but it matches the outfit.
00:26:18That's very important to remember.
00:26:21All of this goes into your satchel of holdings,
00:26:23magically larger on the inside than it is on the outside.
00:26:26And you journey forth from that place
00:26:29and we return to the Gallows Road
00:26:32as Gertrude remembers that last warning just in time
00:26:37to finally begin her quest to where she needs to go.
00:26:44Jujubee!
00:26:45Oh, shit.
00:26:46I wonder who that is.
00:26:49Well, I realize what's happening.
00:26:51We started over here so that I can know
00:26:53exactly what I'm doing by the time we get back.
00:26:55I still have no idea what I'm doing.
00:26:57But hi, I'm Twyla.
00:26:59Perfect.
00:27:00Please describe your character for us.
00:27:01Okay, so Twyla is a ranger, a soldier, and a fae.
00:27:07A fae.
00:27:08Like, we all know what faes are, right?
00:27:09Yeah.
00:27:10I don't know what a fae is.
00:27:11I love it that way.
00:27:12Yeah.
00:27:13Is she a fae?
00:27:14You know.
00:27:15You're friends with the farmer grandpa,
00:27:16is what you're basically saying.
00:27:17Yeah.
00:27:18You ran the same circles.
00:27:19Yeah.
00:27:20Same crop circles.
00:27:21Yeah, we're huge Cher fans.
00:27:22We went to her first last concert.
00:27:23That's what we did.
00:27:24Incredible.
00:27:25And yes, Twyla is a member of the fae realm.
00:27:27She is a faerie with wings.
00:27:29And what does she look like?
00:27:30And what sort of weapons does she carry?
00:27:32She carries a, well, let's look.
00:27:34Let's see, where is it?
00:27:36Where do I go?
00:27:37Under your attacks, but also on your character sheet.
00:27:39Oh, shit.
00:27:40Why don't you tell me and then I'll tell you?
00:27:42You carry a longbow.
00:27:44Okay, so what's special about Twyla is she carries a longbow.
00:27:48She can fly.
00:27:49She can fly.
00:27:50She can fly.
00:27:51She has a longbow.
00:27:52I think that her height is going to come in
00:27:56and be really helpful because she's a petite 4'11".
00:28:00Wow.
00:28:01And if anybody in this room knows,
00:28:03people who are 4'11 are very angry.
00:28:05Why?
00:28:06Because they're one inch away from being five feet.
00:28:09And Twyla can fly.
00:28:12She can fly.
00:28:13So her height can change, darling.
00:28:17If she just hovers an inch off the ground, she'll be five feet.
00:28:20Well, that's why she's 4'11",
00:28:22because she can only hover that high.
00:28:24That's the issue.
00:28:26And she's trying to eventually,
00:28:28so her family is all gone and she's been,
00:28:30she basically is trying to fix the things
00:28:36that she maybe wasn't there for to help.
00:28:39Does that make sense?
00:28:40Yes, absolutely.
00:28:41And as you travel over long distances,
00:28:43do you tend to fly
00:28:44or do you tend to walk alongside your companions?
00:28:47You know, it really depends on the day.
00:28:50Yeah.
00:28:51Like sometimes she's a little tired.
00:28:52Yeah.
00:28:53So I've got my walking shoes on today.
00:28:56I've got really cute shoes on.
00:28:57So I believe that to go into the Underworld now,
00:29:00she's probably going to dance and prance
00:29:02because she's a dancer, lots of rhythm.
00:29:04Beautiful.
00:29:05So she'll dance.
00:29:06But then when there's moments where she needs to fly
00:29:08to maybe help protect us and the team,
00:29:11she's going to fly
00:29:12because she can camouflage and shit like that.
00:29:14Exactly.
00:29:15Traveling here on the Gallows Road,
00:29:16especially as the sun sets ever lower in the sky,
00:29:18it's a good idea to keep a low profile.
00:29:20So walking beside your companions,
00:29:22your beautiful butterfly's wings are folded at your back
00:29:26and you seem, for all the world from a distance,
00:29:29not like a creature of the Fey Realms at all.
00:29:32I mean, walking with an eight-foot orc
00:29:34with a pink tutu might be easy.
00:29:35Yeah, and a scrunchie.
00:29:37Might make us easier to spot.
00:29:39Let's be clear.
00:29:40Princess tanks a lot of heat.
00:29:42In terms of conspicuousness,
00:29:43Princess is getting a lot of the...
00:29:47Dragging the ax on the ground behind her.
00:29:49I'm like, oh, this one's over here.
00:29:51Watch out for that 4'11 Fey.
00:29:54And speaking of Fey,
00:29:55I invite you all to envision...
00:29:57I have an aunt named Fey, by the way.
00:29:59Really?
00:30:00Yeah.
00:30:01Her name was actually Fragile, but we call her Fey.
00:30:02Fragile?
00:30:03We call her Aunt Fey.
00:30:04That's so...
00:30:05Country, yeah.
00:30:06Exactly.
00:30:07I said beautiful.
00:30:08I didn't say country.
00:30:09So beautiful.
00:30:11You remember the last glorious stand
00:30:15in the armies of Queen Titania
00:30:18at the base of a great hill
00:30:20at the top of which bloomed the Allblossom,
00:30:24a magical flower shining light
00:30:27as though it was the noonday sun itself
00:30:30over a fairy landscape
00:30:32filled with briars and roses, hedge mazes,
00:30:36and all manner of wonderful things.
00:30:38You remember the look of your general, Isadora,
00:30:43the right hand of Queen Titania.
00:30:46Isadora astride a massive,
00:30:49iridescent silver dragonfly, saying,
00:30:53Soldiers of the Fairy Queen,
00:30:55we face a threat unlike any we have ever known.
00:30:59She's butch.
00:31:00Yeah, she really can, she has that theater kid.
00:31:03She's from Malden, Massachusetts.
00:31:08Dryads, satyrs, pixies, grigs, nymphs,
00:31:12all manner of fey creatures.
00:31:14The sorceress, Blood Queen Zaria Hex,
00:31:18brings her armies of the dead
00:31:20to bear on the Allblossom.
00:31:22We have never known a threat like this,
00:31:24but if we are to survive,
00:31:26we will only do so together.
00:31:27We must protect the Allblossom.
00:31:30Protect what?
00:31:31The Allblossom.
00:31:32The Allblossom, the big flower
00:31:33on the hill behind you.
00:31:34It's the leaf.
00:31:35Protect the Allblossom.
00:31:36I'm just taking notes.
00:31:38Yes, for sure.
00:31:39You look to your left and right.
00:31:40Your friends are there.
00:31:41Captain Martha, who's a dryad.
00:31:44I'm Captain Martha.
00:31:46I wasn't Martha.
00:31:47My mom's name was Martha.
00:31:48Your whole family's full of my name.
00:31:50You got a Justin in there somewhere?
00:31:52To your other side is Lieutenant Alvin,
00:31:55who is a-
00:31:56A chipmunk.
00:31:57A chipmunk.
00:31:58He's a little chipmunk.
00:32:00We're gonna fuck him up!
00:32:03You see that-
00:32:04Wait, I have a question.
00:32:05Once we say it, it becomes canon.
00:32:08It's in there now.
00:32:09Anything you say becomes canon.
00:32:11So he's now a chipmunk.
00:32:12Now Alvin's a chipmunk.
00:32:13Oh no!
00:32:15Once we say it, it's canon.
00:32:17I love it.
00:32:18No, it's great.
00:32:19Why wouldn't a chipmunk be fighting an affair?
00:32:20You see there's a chipmunk.
00:32:21He's got like a button for a shield.
00:32:23I want Alvin to tell me.
00:32:25Who Alvin is?
00:32:26In Alvin's voice.
00:32:27Okay.
00:32:28That's who I am.
00:32:29Okay, so Alvin goes,
00:32:31Listen.
00:32:34I'm gonna say what I think we're all thinking.
00:32:37This could be our last night together
00:32:40and our last night alive.
00:32:42I think we should get naked and see what happens.
00:32:46I love Alvin.
00:32:47Alvin's great.
00:32:48It's the last night?
00:32:49We're all gonna fucking die.
00:32:50We're all gonna fucking die here
00:32:52and I want to get my nuts off.
00:32:54If you know what I'm saying.
00:32:55Twyla talks to Alvin.
00:32:57Twyla runs furiously into her apartment,
00:33:00looks for a bottle of poppers.
00:33:05What should I tell him about?
00:33:07I almost felt like there was something in here.
00:33:09Alvin has the bottle.
00:33:14Well, so Twyla's like,
00:33:16I have no idea how to do that.
00:33:18Let me go get my friend, the princess.
00:33:19She knows.
00:33:21Isn't this in the past?
00:33:23This is all in the past.
00:33:24Oh no!
00:33:25We don't know each other yet.
00:33:27So suddenly you hear outside,
00:33:29and Alvin in the middle of whatever Alvin's doing goes,
00:33:32Oh shit, the war!
00:33:34And gets his weapons.
00:33:36Russ is just outside.
00:33:38Chaos.
00:33:40Carnage.
00:33:41The forces of Zarya Hex,
00:33:44an undead queen in blood red robes
00:33:48with an army of skeletal soldiers sneering.
00:33:52You servants of the Fae realm
00:33:55shall know pain and cruelty.
00:33:58The Old Blossom shall be mine!
00:34:01No.
00:34:03This is bad.
00:34:04It's straight up bad.
00:34:06Zarya, in this memory, as we know,
00:34:09for this has happened in the past,
00:34:11defeated the armies of Titania that day,
00:34:14but not before Alvin.
00:34:17Alvin, dying on the ground before you,
00:34:23takes a single magical seed
00:34:27from the center of a pool of nectar
00:34:29at the middle of the Old Blossom.
00:34:31Twyla, you can fly the swiftest of us all.
00:34:36Take the seed of the Old Blossom.
00:34:39Keep hope for our people.
00:34:43Twyla holds out her hands and says,
00:34:46Alvin, seed me.
00:34:49For the second time today.
00:34:55What, you ate it?
00:34:57Did you eat the seed?
00:34:58My wings are here, right?
00:35:00Yes, your wings are here.
00:35:04What is this?
00:35:05What, you've eaten the seed?
00:35:06I did.
00:35:07Was I supposed to eat the seed or just hold on?
00:35:09You were supposed to hold onto it!
00:35:10What did you do?
00:35:11Why would I do that?
00:35:12Why would I do that?
00:35:14Actually, she didn't swallow,
00:35:16because she's not a swallower,
00:35:17so she spits out the seed,
00:35:19and here it is again.
00:35:21I am dying!
00:35:23And Alvin passes away,
00:35:26and we cut back to the Gallows Road,
00:35:29where you journey with this,
00:35:31and you can write this down in your equipment
00:35:32on your character sheet as well.
00:35:33Seed of the All Blossom.
00:35:36Not eating the seed.
00:35:37Jesus Christ.
00:35:40And Twyla, as you remember
00:35:43that last night fighting against Zaria Hex,
00:35:46all of you turn a corner in the Gallows Road,
00:35:49and you see, nestled in the lights,
00:35:51and now the sun has fully faded behind the mountains,
00:35:55and you see light glowing from the village of Greeley.
00:35:58Tryann, you have been to the village of Greeley before,
00:36:01and some of you may well have been here as well,
00:36:03but some of you, I believe,
00:36:04are also here for the very first time.
00:36:06You see a village, there's some light,
00:36:08and you see a tavern with a swinging sign out in front,
00:36:12and you hear some noise of merrymaking,
00:36:15there's music, there's sounds like drinking
00:36:17and libations happening in the tavern there,
00:36:19but you can't shake the feeling
00:36:21that the sort of raucous debauchery inside the tavern
00:36:25is such a small noise against the vastness
00:36:27of these mountains of shadow.
00:36:29Something about the village of Greeley
00:36:31living so close to the Temple of Wraiths,
00:36:34there's some piece of this village
00:36:36where a fear permeates the nighttime air.
00:36:39But you do see that tavern,
00:36:42and the sign swinging in the torchlight,
00:36:45the Heroes' Hall.
00:36:47So, we have introduced your characters,
00:36:50we know some but not all of why you have come here
00:36:54to this gateway to the underworld.
00:36:56Here in the village of Greeley,
00:36:57now I will go ahead and we're going to turn
00:37:00a lot of this over to you
00:37:02in terms of you all are playing your characters.
00:37:04You can do anything at all that you want to do.
00:37:07You are together, you obviously have your mission,
00:37:09but it is late at night,
00:37:10and you see a long and dangerous road
00:37:13winding up the craggy cliffs of Mount Basra,
00:37:16which would be dangerous to travel at night.
00:37:19You say late, late for who?
00:37:20Would you like nine, midnight, 3 a.m.?
00:37:22I'd say it's like 9.30.
00:37:249.30, okay.
00:37:25It's late for you, grandma.
00:37:27She's tired.
00:37:30This is a lot about you that you said
00:37:319.30 was late at night.
00:37:32You're like, it is late.
00:37:33It is late, 9.30 is late.
00:37:359.30 is late.
00:37:369.30 is late.
00:37:37But you see the tavern is raucous.
00:37:39There are a few other small buildings in the hamlet
00:37:42sort of here and there.
00:37:43You see there is a short watchtower,
00:37:46maybe only like three stories tall,
00:37:48which is set at the road that goes up into the mountains
00:37:52to, you know, and there's a little torch up there.
00:37:54There might be some guards,
00:37:56just like local village guards who are keeping watch
00:37:58to make sure nothing sinister slinks
00:38:00out of the mountains into the town.
00:38:02And you also see, if you are not interested
00:38:05in interacting with the people of the town,
00:38:07that there are some places
00:38:08farther out of the edges of the town
00:38:09where you might be able to make camp
00:38:11if you wanted to avoid the town.
00:38:14There's some barns
00:38:15and some sort of small fields and meadows as well.
00:38:19But I turn it over to you.
00:38:20As you approach Gridley, what do you want to do?
00:38:21I would like to get a drink.
00:38:23Ah!
00:38:27Now, Gertrude.
00:38:28That's the tavern, right?
00:38:29Yeah, that's the tavern.
00:38:30Oh, it's a tavern.
00:38:31Oh, it's an actual tavern
00:38:32where you can get drinks and stuff?
00:38:33I thought it was just home-based.
00:38:34Oh, yeah.
00:38:35Yeah, the tavern is real.
00:38:36There's like different places we can go.
00:38:38So we can go to the tavern, the watchtower.
00:38:40Or, well, we don't want to go up the windy road yet
00:38:42because it's nighttime.
00:38:43Not by yourself.
00:38:44Yeah.
00:38:45Okay.
00:38:46We haven't met each other yet.
00:38:47Oh, no, all of you have met.
00:38:48We have, okay.
00:38:49So all of you have met.
00:38:50You had that encounter in the City of Darktide
00:38:53where you first met and realized that it was safer,
00:38:56given this incredibly perilous mission,
00:38:59much safer to travel together
00:39:00even if you all had your own reasons for going
00:39:03than it was to travel alone.
00:39:04The buddy system is very important.
00:39:06Buddy system!
00:39:07Number one rule of Kel Vorda, have a buddy.
00:39:09Have a buddy.
00:39:10Hold hands.
00:39:11Hold hands.
00:39:12So, wait, so we have places to go.
00:39:13We can't go to your house, though, right?
00:39:14No.
00:39:15I live too far away.
00:39:16I can't go back home.
00:39:17They're trying to kill witches.
00:39:18There's a witch hunter on the way.
00:39:19Here's the question I have.
00:39:20If I can make myself invisible,
00:39:22can I make us invisible?
00:39:24Your Pass Without Trace is a really great tool.
00:39:26It doesn't make you fully invisible,
00:39:29but it basically gives you
00:39:30an incredible advantage on stealth.
00:39:32What do you mean, like 90% invisible?
00:39:35The way Pass Without Trace works
00:39:37is it envelops you in shadows,
00:39:39so the spell requires you
00:39:42to still make an effort to stay hidden,
00:39:44unlike invisibility,
00:39:45which would make you be able to just disappear
00:39:48in the middle of a crowded room.
00:39:49So I don't have invisibility?
00:39:50You have disguised self,
00:39:52and you have Pass Without Trace,
00:39:53but you do not have true invisibility.
00:39:55Oh, well, we gotta talk about this,
00:39:57because Twyla,
00:39:58Twyla this entire time thought she had invisibility.
00:40:02Which explains a lot of her odd behavior.
00:40:04She's like, bitch, I can see you.
00:40:06You can see me doing all the things that I've done.
00:40:09Bitch, we can see you.
00:40:11The whole time, Mary.
00:40:12We cut back to a roommate meeting
00:40:14in a giant mushroom fairyland.
00:40:15So when you're in the common areas of the apartment,
00:40:18all of us can see.
00:40:21I'm so sorry.
00:40:22That skirt just moved by itself.
00:40:24We've been choosing not to say anything,
00:40:26but it's gone too far.
00:40:27So Twyla walks around with her hand in her skirt,
00:40:29and you guys don't say anything?
00:40:31We've been seeing you, girl.
00:40:32Oh my God.
00:40:33Creak your comforts.
00:40:34Well, you know what?
00:40:35I think that we should go to the tavern,
00:40:36because I need one more kill
00:40:38to meet my quota for the month.
00:40:40And Princess needs a drink.
00:40:41You want to kill someone at the tavern?
00:40:43There is a mark at the tavern that I need to kill.
00:40:45Mark what?
00:40:46One of my marks, one I need to kill.
00:40:48Mark Davidson?
00:40:49Mark Ronson.
00:40:50Okay.
00:40:51I just want to say,
00:40:52we're trying to keep a little bit of a low profile, Troyann,
00:40:56and I feel like if you were to kill someone,
00:40:58in the middle of the tavern,
00:40:59we might need to leave town tonight.
00:41:02Are you ready to leave?
00:41:03I was hoping we'd leave in the morning,
00:41:05but if you must, you must.
00:41:06Well, we can cause a commotion somewhere.
00:41:09Yeah, and also, he's a bad person.
00:41:11He's committed a lot of crimes in this town.
00:41:13What kind of crimes?
00:41:14Grand larceny.
00:41:15Mark Ronson?
00:41:16Yes.
00:41:17Wow.
00:41:19Who he steal from?
00:41:22Paula Abdul.
00:41:23Jesus!
00:41:24What?
00:41:25Christ!
00:41:27Paula lives here?
00:41:29Up here.
00:41:30Up there?
00:41:31It's canon.
00:41:32It is now canon.
00:41:33So every time she goes up,
00:41:34she's like two steps forward, one step back.
00:41:36It takes her a very long time to make it to the tavern.
00:41:38A very long time.
00:41:39So I think if we go to get him at the tavern,
00:41:42let's go get Mark,
00:41:43then we have to leave town tonight.
00:41:45All right.
00:41:46Well, I guess so.
00:41:47Well, let's go for it, I think.
00:41:49You have to, you have to.
00:41:50All right.
00:41:51Troyann's a bit of a loose cannon.
00:41:53Now, I want to say that Gertrude's
00:41:55a little bit more calculated,
00:41:56and she's afraid that we're gonna walk in
00:41:57and just start fighting off the bat.
00:41:59So Gertrude stands in the doorway.
00:42:00She always hangs by the door to make sure
00:42:02if anything's gonna go down,
00:42:03she'll be far enough that she can like,
00:42:05you know, make things happen.
00:42:06So Gertrude is hanging by the door.
00:42:08She doesn't drink.
00:42:09She never drinks, but she always pretends to.
00:42:11If she needs to act drunk, she'll be like,
00:42:12I am out of control, but she's always in control.
00:42:15Of herself, anyway.
00:42:16Yes.
00:42:17So approaching the door of the Hero's Hall,
00:42:19Gertrude, you are first to enter.
00:42:20Walking into the Hero's Hall,
00:42:22go ahead, and I'm gonna ask you
00:42:24if you are paying attention to anything in particular
00:42:27as you walk in.
00:42:28So Gertrude walks in.
00:42:29She looks around, and at first,
00:42:31it seems like just a bunch of people drinking.
00:42:33Most are human.
00:42:35There are a few elvish people in here.
00:42:37So Gertrude's looking around,
00:42:38and then she, of course, beckons for her friends
00:42:41to walk through the door and join.
00:42:43I'm gonna actually ask an insight check from Gertrude.
00:42:47So insight is one of your skills,
00:42:49and take your die on the very far left,
00:42:51that D20.
00:42:52Ooh, D20.
00:42:53Mm-hmm, and you're gonna roll,
00:42:54and we're gonna do an insight check here.
00:42:56Big money, big money.
00:42:57I got a 14.
00:42:58And go ahead and add the number next to your insight.
00:43:01That is two.
00:43:02So a 16.
00:43:03Looking around the Hero's Hall,
00:43:05you see that there's a woman behind the bar.
00:43:08She's got thick forearms, thick hands.
00:43:11She looks like an old human family of farmers
00:43:15who's just been running this tavern,
00:43:16like a family business for a long time.
00:43:18Got a square jaw,
00:43:19and are just pouring drinks for people.
00:43:21Sort of russet red hair.
00:43:23Candy muesums there?
00:43:24Oh my god.
00:43:27As you-
00:43:28That's fire.
00:43:29As you walk in the door,
00:43:30right to your left as you step in,
00:43:31you also see that there is a muscle-bound dwarf.
00:43:35He's only about, you know, four foot six.
00:43:38Oh my gosh.
00:43:41Only about four foot six,
00:43:42but you see he's got a shaved head,
00:43:44and he's got a huge braided beard,
00:43:46lots of braids and gold rings,
00:43:48and his beard.
00:43:49He looks over at you and says,
00:43:50Hi there, welcome to the Hero's Hall.
00:43:53My name is Dag Strongshield,
00:43:56the bouncer here.
00:43:58Oh, hi Dag, how are you?
00:44:00I'm doing very well.
00:44:01Always nice to have guests come in.
00:44:03Forgive me for saying,
00:44:05but you're here for the-
00:44:07And you see he points up the mountain
00:44:09towards the temple.
00:44:11Who told you that?
00:44:13You gotta wake up pretty early in the morning
00:44:16to pull the wool over Dag Strongshield's eyes.
00:44:19All right Dag, well listen,
00:44:20if you keep your information secret
00:44:23and don't go blabbing your mouth to everyone,
00:44:26then we'll be cool.
00:44:28Hey, consider us cool.
00:44:32Can we call him Daggy?
00:44:34Like, hey Daggy.
00:44:36Yeah, Twyla, you can walk in and call him that,
00:44:38absolutely.
00:44:39As he says, ooh, a pet name already,
00:44:41and what's your name, lady?
00:44:43Twyla.
00:44:44Twyla, Dag Strongshield.
00:44:45As Twyla says.
00:44:46Ooh, well welcome to the Heroes Hall.
00:44:49We have Mr. Elwynn Thrump, our bard,
00:44:53who's playing,
00:44:54and you see there's a sort of scrawny guy
00:44:55with a very poofy kind of feathered Renaissance cap
00:44:58who's playing a mandolin up on the stage.
00:45:02What was his name?
00:45:03Elwynn.
00:45:04Elwynn.
00:45:05Elwynn.
00:45:06And the rest of you walk in as well.
00:45:07Princess, you see that bar,
00:45:08huge aged barrels of mead and ale.
00:45:12You see there's some bottles
00:45:13of some stronger stuff back there as well.
00:45:15The barmaid looks over at you,
00:45:17this older woman, Kashra,
00:45:18and she says, traveler, welcome to the Heroes Hall.
00:45:22Pleasure to have you.
00:45:23What can I get you to drink?
00:45:24Let's do shots.
00:45:27Do you wanna do shots?
00:45:28Yeah.
00:45:29Do you want to?
00:45:30Why not some non-alcoholic though?
00:45:32You'll pretend.
00:45:33Let's do shots.
00:45:34Okay, okay, okay.
00:45:35All right, some shots, wonderful.
00:45:36All right, well, you see that she goes,
00:45:38and you see this place is a little bit rinky dink enough
00:45:41that the shot glasses are like a tin coffee cup,
00:45:44two sort of rocks glasses,
00:45:46and then you're like, that's a bowl.
00:45:48That's like a small bowl.
00:45:49Puts it all in front of you,
00:45:50and she says, we have some Elwynn mead,
00:45:55but if you're looking for something a little bit stronger,
00:45:57we have some orcish grog.
00:46:00Orcish grog.
00:46:01Orcish grog.
00:46:03All right.
00:46:04I'll have a water.
00:46:06Just a water?
00:46:07Yeah.
00:46:08And with some flowers in it, you know.
00:46:10All right.
00:46:11Who the fuck do you think you are?
00:46:13Twilight.
00:46:14Wallace, run out to the well and get some water.
00:46:19You see a kid head out the door,
00:46:21and you see that she takes out a thing
00:46:23and says, orcish grog it is.
00:46:24She takes a sort of steel like knight's helmet,
00:46:28puts it on her head,
00:46:29walks over to a bottle and opens the cork,
00:46:32and you see a fume of like alcoholic vapor
00:46:36kind of escapes the bottle,
00:46:38and she says, oh, look at that.
00:46:41It makes you cry a little bit if you stand right over it,
00:46:43and she pours three pretty heavy pours
00:46:46of orcish grog in front of you,
00:46:48and you see there is this like,
00:46:51it's completely clear.
00:46:53It smells sort of salty and sour,
00:46:57and there's a, it's like a little bit viscous.
00:47:00You can see the surface tension on it
00:47:01is like a little bit thicker than water.
00:47:04She puts it in front of all of you and says,
00:47:07bottoms up, sláinte and good health to all of you.
00:47:09All right.
00:47:10I want to use some prestidigitation
00:47:13to make it look like I'm drinking.
00:47:16Perfect.
00:47:17I want everyone to think that I'm drinking.
00:47:18Do I got to roll something?
00:47:19No, that's a use of the spell that you can absolutely do.
00:47:21So everyone thinks, it looks like I'm drinking,
00:47:23but as I pour it to my mouth,
00:47:24it looks like somehow it's like invading away or something.
00:47:27And the real grog,
00:47:28are you just like tossing that over your shoulder?
00:47:29Yeah, I'm just doing one of these.
00:47:31And Troy-Anne are sort of like warriors here,
00:47:34like Troy-Anne and Princess.
00:47:35Are you knocking it back?
00:47:36We're knocking it back.
00:47:38Hell yeah.
00:47:39Incredible.
00:47:40So Princess, Troy-Anne, clink.
00:47:42It goes back.
00:47:43All of you hear,
00:47:45as the wooden floor behind Gertrude starts to steam.
00:47:49What was that?
00:47:52It's really strong.
00:47:54I need both of you to make a new roll for the first time,
00:47:58a constitution saving throw.
00:48:01So unlike skill checks,
00:48:03saving throws are rolls
00:48:04to avoid something bad happening to you.
00:48:07No!
00:48:08Don't drink.
00:48:09Don't drink.
00:48:10Oh, looks like you should have had the water.
00:48:15What do you think is in the flowers, girl?
00:48:17Watch out.
00:48:19Do your roll, Mary.
00:48:20Why do you have to?
00:48:24Incredible.
00:48:25So both of you are gonna roll that same D20
00:48:27and above your skills,
00:48:29you'll see your saving throws.
00:48:31So you're gonna look at constitution
00:48:32and you're gonna add whatever's next to constitution
00:48:34to your roll.
00:48:3813.
00:48:39And have you added the number next to your constitution?
00:48:4219.
00:48:43Ooh, that's right.
00:48:44Troy-Anne is made of stern stuff.
00:48:45Can we double check one of these,
00:48:46New York Public Schools,
00:48:47I need someone to make sure the numbers are right.
00:48:50Princess, what did you roll?
00:48:52A 15 plus seven is 22.
00:48:54Ooh!
00:48:55So our undersea assassin
00:48:57and our orcish barbarian noble,
00:49:00you throw it back.
00:49:01Each of you feel this scalding searing of the grog
00:49:05go down your throats
00:49:06and you're immediately feeling like
00:49:07just the right amount of buzz.
00:49:09It's great.
00:49:12Everyone in this tavern looks kind of cool.
00:49:14You feel very charming.
00:49:16It's like, ooh, this is a great place to be.
00:49:18I can take my mark out tonight.
00:49:20And as you say that,
00:49:21actually go ahead and give me an investigation roll
00:49:24and I'm gonna add a new mechanic here,
00:49:26which is you're actually gonna do this with advantage.
00:49:28When I say you make a roll with advantage,
00:49:30it means you actually get to roll twice
00:49:32and take the better of the two rolls.
00:49:34So because you're such a practiced assassin,
00:49:37you're gonna roll investigation,
00:49:39which is another one of your skills.
00:49:40And I want you to roll,
00:49:42actually, we're gonna call this perception.
00:49:44So go ahead and roll perception for me.
00:49:46Roll twice and take the better of the two rolls.
00:49:48With D20?
00:49:49With D20, that's correct.
00:49:51A one.
00:49:53Oh no, thank goodness you're rolling with advantage.
00:49:54So as long as you don't roll another one.
00:49:56It's gonna be a one.
00:49:57No!
00:49:58We're on the same team, Twyla and Gertrude.
00:50:01We're just watching.
00:50:02Yeah, we're not drunk.
00:50:04You're pretending to watch.
00:50:05I'm just invisible over here.
00:50:09You rolled a second one!
00:50:11Didn't I say?
00:50:12Snake eyes.
00:50:13I got an eight.
00:50:14Wait, wait, wait, perception?
00:50:15Yeah, eight.
00:50:16So unfortunately in this game,
00:50:19we have a thing called critical successes and failures.
00:50:23This is a failure.
00:50:24I'm assuming.
00:50:27Naturally.
00:50:28On a natural 20, incredible things are impossible.
00:50:31If you hit a 20 on the die, it's an overwhelming success.
00:50:35Yeah.
00:50:36And the reverse, if you manage to roll a natural one.
00:50:39Okay, can I get some prestidigitation
00:50:41and pretend like it was a 20?
00:50:43Well, I will say this.
00:50:45A perception check is a good check to roll very low on.
00:50:48It's not life or death, right?
00:50:49Okay.
00:50:50It's just you're thinking your outfit looks good.
00:50:52Let me put it this way.
00:50:53If that had been your constitution saving throw,
00:50:55we'd be having a very bad time right now.
00:50:57Okay, okay, okay.
00:50:58Okay.
00:50:59So I have eight.
00:51:00Oh my gosh.
00:51:01That's right.
00:51:02This game is dangerous.
00:51:03And your perception doesn't mean you're delusional.
00:51:05True.
00:51:06So, Troyann, you look around.
00:51:08As you look on a nat one perception check,
00:51:11you're stalking your quarry.
00:51:13You have very specific people that you're supposed to hunt.
00:51:17Does this look like she could confuse someone with someone else?
00:51:19Is that what this kind of thing is?
00:51:21If your perception's that low?
00:51:22If your perception's that low, it means terrible things can happen.
00:51:24Troyann, you look and there is a door off.
00:51:29There's a back entrance where the kid ran out
00:51:31to go get that well water.
00:51:32So there's another door, sort of skinny and rickety,
00:51:35almost like a pretty sure it's a closet door.
00:51:37And you see a deep red liquid pooling out
00:51:42from underneath the door into the hallway of the tavern.
00:51:47Something on the other side of that door spells bad news.
00:51:51Oh, no.
00:51:52Go check it out.
00:51:56I'm in disaster. Let's do it.
00:51:58Now, I have my spear in my hand as well,
00:52:03and also my net slinked over my shoulder,
00:52:05but I'm going to tuck the net.
00:52:06I don't think I need the net, but I have my spear ready to go.
00:52:08Hell, yeah. Spear in hand.
00:52:09You walk to the door.
00:52:11There's not even a keyhole.
00:52:12It's a door that doesn't need to lock.
00:52:13It's just a sort of service supply closet for the tavern.
00:52:16You open the door.
00:52:19You look inside.
00:52:21On the floor of the closet,
00:52:23bones crushed and mangled, throat slit,
00:52:28is the dead body of famed music producer Mark Ronson.
00:52:32The guy you were supposed to kill.
00:52:33Someone's already done it.
00:52:34Somebody's already done it.
00:52:35I'm using my spear to move his body around.
00:52:37I want to incarnate myself and touch the body.
00:52:40So I'm going to move him around with my spear.
00:52:42Yep, he's dead.
00:52:43He's dead.
00:52:44Not Mark Ronson.
00:52:45Not Mark Ronson.
00:52:46Well, at least Paul Abdul's safe.
00:52:49I don't even know who Mark Ronson is.
00:52:51Producer.
00:52:52Uptown funk.
00:52:53Sometimes I go out by myself.
00:52:55He's a lot like Amy Winehouse, though.
00:52:57Great.
00:52:58And he's in Calvordia, and he's dead.
00:53:00Mangled.
00:53:01Mangled in a closet.
00:53:03In a closet.
00:53:04As you behold that, Troyan, you immediately know,
00:53:06that soul, you need that soul.
00:53:08And the danger posed by that is
00:53:13there's two possibilities here.
00:53:15Either you have to find another soul to replace it,
00:53:17which is very challenging.
00:53:18There's only very specific souls you can get,
00:53:20and you're working on a clock right now.
00:53:22Or you would have to go to the underworld
00:53:25and try to find the soul there,
00:53:28walking around with the other dead souls
00:53:30and collect it there.
00:53:31What?
00:53:32But that is a way harder way to do things.
00:53:35So Troyan, you see that.
00:53:37So I think you're having that moment.
00:53:38And again, you also see your spear nicks the forearm.
00:53:41So anyone who investigates this
00:53:43might make the mistake of assuming you did it.
00:53:46For everyone else, though, you're out in the tavern.
00:53:48I had a great time.
00:53:49I didn't roll a one.
00:53:53We move from this moment of terror and discovery
00:53:56that Troyan is having sort of down the hallway.
00:53:58And we cut back to the main common room of the tavern.
00:54:00The rich, musty smell of pipe smoke
00:54:03along with the big wood fire by the stage
00:54:05where the bard is playing.
00:54:06It is a earthy, musky,
00:54:09depending on who you ask,
00:54:10pleasant or unpleasant scent in the tavern
00:54:13as people laugh and make merry.
00:54:15Twyla, you have your water finally.
00:54:17And Gertrude, you've done your shot of orcish grog.
00:54:21I have a question.
00:54:22Could I use friends to go talk to Dag
00:54:26and get a full account of everyone who's been here?
00:54:28Because we need to find out who did this dastardly.
00:54:32Because Dag's got an eye on everyone in the room.
00:54:34Dag spotted you the moment you walked in.
00:54:36Dag's the guy at the front door,
00:54:37the dork, the muscly dork with the beard.
00:54:40The gold ring.
00:54:41Absolutely.
00:54:42You can absolutely talk to Dag.
00:54:43So as you sort of corner Dag,
00:54:45both of you are across from Kashra
00:54:46and both of you, Twyla and Princess,
00:54:49hear a squeak of a bar stool.
00:54:52Turn, don't see anything,
00:54:53and look down and you see a small goblin man.
00:54:57He's sort of got a shock of like spiky black hair,
00:55:00long pointed green ears.
00:55:03He has sort of these like yellowish teeth
00:55:05that he has a gold filling in one
00:55:08that's been filed down to sharp points
00:55:10and these sort of high arched eyebrows
00:55:12and a long cloak, jingles and jangles.
00:55:15You have to look down.
00:55:16He's only about three feet tall.
00:55:19He's the third tallest person in the bar.
00:55:21So that's why I'm looking down.
00:55:23I was like, are you sure?
00:55:24Are you sure?
00:55:25And you see, he looks at you both and says,
00:55:26ladies, ladies, hello and welcome to the Heroes Hall.
00:55:30I haven't seen you here before.
00:55:32Allow me to introduce myself.
00:55:34I'm Bump Williams.
00:55:35I am a Bump.
00:55:37Yes, you may call me Bump.
00:55:39My friends call me Bump or Bumpy.
00:55:41Welcome to the Heroes Hall.
00:55:42Have you journeyed long to find yourself here
00:55:45at the foot of Mount Basra?
00:55:48Ah, Twyla says.
00:55:49He's totally hitting on you.
00:55:51Yeah, and then Twyla says,
00:55:55oh, yes.
00:55:59Uh-huh, well, Barky,
00:56:02if you would see these two young ladies,
00:56:06feel free to drink on my tab.
00:56:09Ladies.
00:56:10I know the owner of this establishment.
00:56:13Oh, yeah?
00:56:14Yes.
00:56:15What's his name?
00:56:16Oh, well, her name is Kashra.
00:56:17Ooh.
00:56:18Wow.
00:56:19What an assumption.
00:56:20And I knew that, and I was testing you.
00:56:22Wow, okay.
00:56:24Turn around, stare, play.
00:56:25I see some-
00:56:26Baby Kashra.
00:56:29I see some witty repartee is in store for me
00:56:32if I stay long at this bar.
00:56:34You see that Kashra turns around,
00:56:36gets a bottle of some fine elven mead,
00:56:39puts it in front of you with some cleaner glasses.
00:56:42The nice stuff.
00:56:43The nice stuff.
00:56:44Why don't we get the little nasty,
00:56:45you didn't know a friend of the owner at the time.
00:56:47Okay, she brought out the fine china, honey.
00:56:50You see Bump looks at both of you and says,
00:56:54you journeyed long,
00:56:55journeyed long together, I assume.
00:56:58Yes.
00:56:59Hmm, you must forgive me.
00:57:01I feel as though I recognize your face.
00:57:06Oh my gosh.
00:57:08Maybe I would look really pretty and familiar.
00:57:13Well, you are a stunning beauty,
00:57:16so I'm sure perhaps I've seen you in my dreams.
00:57:20I agree.
00:57:24Well, if there's any service I can be,
00:57:26just let me know.
00:57:27I'm something of an impresario here,
00:57:29a raconteur, a little bit of a-
00:57:31What's an impresario?
00:57:34You be using these big words, baby.
00:57:36I'm sorry, as I said, raconteur.
00:57:40There's a rat.
00:57:41It's when you contour with a rat.
00:57:43You take a rat, you put it up to your cheek.
00:57:45Rat contour.
00:57:46A New York rat.
00:57:47Yeah.
00:57:48A New York rat.
00:57:49A raconteur.
00:57:50You see he looks over at you and says,
00:57:52I'll state it simply, I'm a man of means
00:57:55and I make things happen in the village of Greeley.
00:57:58Oh, so he's a pimp.
00:58:00You see he looks and says,
00:58:02many magical wares do I have.
00:58:05Okay.
00:58:06And I'm always happy to part with them for a price.
00:58:11However, I'm interested.
00:58:13You've been traveling long.
00:58:14Have you been traveling here together?
00:58:16And you see he takes his mead
00:58:17and raises it in a toast to both of you
00:58:20and waits for you to raise your glasses as well.
00:58:22Do you raise your glass of water with the flower in it?
00:58:24My water, my flower water
00:58:27has been up this whole time, actually.
00:58:29Twyla, I'm suspicious of this guy
00:58:31because I think that he murdered my family
00:58:35because he said I look familiar.
00:58:37I can smell that smell.
00:58:39Don't I have some perception shit or something?
00:58:43Hell yeah.
00:58:44Can I see if he's being shady?
00:58:46Yeah.
00:58:47You have a couple different options.
00:58:48You have all your skills in front of you.
00:58:50So what I would recommend is this.
00:58:52Dangerous sentence.
00:58:53If you want to find out something
00:58:56about this guy you're talking to subtly,
00:58:58I would recommend an insight check.
00:59:01Insight is a skill associated with reading people,
00:59:05situations, moods, vibes, things like that.
00:59:08Reading.
00:59:09Hold on.
00:59:10What if you don't want to do it quietly?
00:59:12What if we want to put you in a chair
00:59:13and scream at you?
00:59:14As a barbarian,
00:59:15you have a special ability called commanding presence,
00:59:18which means that you can,
00:59:20if you want to confront this guy,
00:59:22you can roll an intimidation check
00:59:24and add extra.
00:59:26You're not just scary for your size and ferocity.
00:59:30You also are extra imposing on top of that
00:59:33from your commanding presence,
00:59:34from your noble line.
00:59:36Yeah.
00:59:37We're gonna do that one.
00:59:39So let's go ahead and roll an intimidation check.
00:59:43And unlike a normal roll,
00:59:44because you're gonna use your commanding presence,
00:59:46you're also going to add the six-sided die.
00:59:49Six-sided die.
00:59:50Your six-sided die is the normal square one.
00:59:52Okay.
00:59:53And you're gonna roll the D22.
00:59:54Oh, soo.
00:59:55You're gonna roll them both
00:59:56and you're gonna add your intimidation skill
00:59:58from your character sheet.
01:00:00Intimidation.
01:00:02Okay, okay.
01:00:03Work.
01:00:04How much is your intimidation?
01:00:05It's a plus five.
01:00:07So, oh my God.
01:00:08Okay.
01:00:09Oh my God.
01:00:10This is really bad.
01:00:11Okay.
01:00:12Oh God.
01:00:13I rolled a three and a one.
01:00:15This table, this side of the table.
01:00:17So four plus five is a nine.
01:00:20Knowing that it is not a very successful attempt,
01:00:23how does Princess attempt to intimidate
01:00:25this goblin facing you down at the bar?
01:00:28She would like stand up and she would like show,
01:00:31because he's like three feet tall
01:00:33and she's like eight feet tall.
01:00:34So she would be like, stand up and be like,
01:00:36what, what the fuck is up, motherfucker?
01:00:39You see, Bump looks at you and goes,
01:00:42ooh, large and powerful woman.
01:00:46What are you gonna do to me?
01:00:48Ooh, Bump is kinky.
01:00:50And then Twyla says, don't worry about it, Princess.
01:00:53This is just a little bump in the road.
01:00:56So then, okay, I feel like we should go help them.
01:01:00Yeah.
01:01:01Because they're struggling.
01:01:02You don't roll the dice.
01:01:03I'll do it this time.
01:01:04We're actually gonna pause this at this moment.
01:01:06You see that as you sort of tower over Bump
01:01:09to intimidate him,
01:01:10you see that there's some weird part of him
01:01:12that appears to be like all for it
01:01:15as you're attempting to,
01:01:16he's not scared, but rather he is like into it.
01:01:19Maybe he climbed on the bar to get on her level.
01:01:21He's like trying to, like you look her in the eye.
01:01:24So he sees her belly button.
01:01:25We're gonna cut back to resolve
01:01:26what Gertrude's been doing while this is happening,
01:01:28which is talking to Dag.
01:01:29So you're talking to Dag at the front
01:01:31who seems, again, very charmed by you.
01:01:33And you're gonna cast.
01:01:34I use friends on him, I think.
01:01:35So you use a little bit of sorcery,
01:01:38which means you're going to roll
01:01:40a persuasion with advantage.
01:01:43So you're gonna roll twice
01:01:44and take the better of the two rolls.
01:01:46So just a D20?
01:01:47D20, that's right.
01:01:49That's an eight.
01:01:51Okay, roll again.
01:01:52And this one is a 10.
01:01:56Okay, and then 10 plus what your persuasion is.
01:01:58Persuasion is an eight, 18.
01:02:0018, so amazing.
01:02:02Yeah, Monet.
01:02:03So you see, what does it look like?
01:02:07What does Gertrude's friend spell?
01:02:09Because it's a very subtle spell.
01:02:10What does it look like
01:02:11as Gertrude casts this little trick?
01:02:12So what happens is Gertrude takes a deep breath.
01:02:16And then as she exhales,
01:02:19a little black dust comes out of her nose.
01:02:24And then it swirls down
01:02:25and it kind of wraps around their head
01:02:27and it goes into their ears.
01:02:29And then they just go.
01:02:31Oh, yeah?
01:02:32Why?
01:02:33They suddenly trust her.
01:02:34It's like they've known her for,
01:02:35it's all of a sudden she's like an old friend.
01:02:37So you see, as the bar stool squeaks
01:02:40for you to sort of stand up,
01:02:42that's your moment of distraction.
01:02:43And you see Dag just goes.
01:02:47Hi.
01:02:48Hey, Dag, you see pretty much everyone
01:02:51who walks in this place, right?
01:02:52Yeah, I try.
01:02:54But not everyone's as noticeable as everyone else.
01:02:57And I noticed that Mark Ronson was in here before.
01:03:00Yeah, famed music producer.
01:03:02Yeah, I love his stuff, he's so good.
01:03:04Yeah, Uptown Funk you up.
01:03:05Did he come in with anyone?
01:03:07Was he alone?
01:03:08Did he have a friend with him?
01:03:10Has he been talking to anyone?
01:03:12He came in here a couple days ago screaming.
01:03:15He said he drove his car through a portal.
01:03:18He didn't know how he got here.
01:03:20He was trying desperately to get back to Earth.
01:03:22Didn't know anybody.
01:03:24He said he feels like he was losing his mind.
01:03:26People were like, it's a portal, buddy.
01:03:28Yeah, it's a portal.
01:03:29They're pretty standard.
01:03:30Pretty standard.
01:03:31Well, in California.
01:03:33In California.
01:03:34Exactly, you get it.
01:03:35I mean, show me a time without a portal and I'll show you.
01:03:38But he was around earlier today,
01:03:40but I ended up seeing him talk with,
01:03:43there are two folks that came in earlier today,
01:03:46back when it was still, the sun was still up,
01:03:49and they headed up towards the mountain
01:03:51with only a couple, like an hour or two to spare
01:03:54to get up there.
01:03:55They were cutting it pretty close.
01:03:57Now that you mention it, it's sort of interesting
01:03:59because one of them,
01:04:01of course we get all sorts in here,
01:04:03but I will say, this far from the sea,
01:04:05it's unusual to see merfolk traveling this far,
01:04:08but I did see there was a merperson
01:04:11who had one of those sea charms
01:04:14to grant them legs for a time.
01:04:17Ooh, who could that be?
01:04:19Her mama?
01:04:20I don't know.
01:04:21So that's when Gertrude leans down
01:04:24and just whispers in his ear,
01:04:26thank you so much, Dag,
01:04:27and then she blinks and then he snaps out of a trance.
01:04:32So Gertrude walks over to, over to Troyanne
01:04:37and pulls her aside and goes, listen.
01:04:40Wait, girl, Mark Ronson's dead already.
01:04:42Yeah, I know.
01:04:44I already know.
01:04:45I talked to Dag, the guy at the front door.
01:04:47He sees everything here,
01:04:48and there was another merperson here,
01:04:51but they had the amulet that grants them legs.
01:04:54What color was the amulet?
01:04:55It was, it was a,
01:04:58it was a, Dag did not say, but I think you.
01:05:02Oh, I remember, I remember now, I remember.
01:05:04It was red, but it was kind of like a pulsing red color
01:05:08and it had like some kind of stuff.
01:05:09Is that?
01:05:10It's an amulet of my mother.
01:05:11Is this from, from Deepwater?
01:05:13From Edgewater?
01:05:14Deepwater.
01:05:16Deeptown.
01:05:17From Everdeep.
01:05:18Everdeep.
01:05:19Love it, hell yes.
01:05:22So I think here, Troyanne,
01:05:24you would remember this right away.
01:05:26Those amulets are worth more than a king's ransom.
01:05:30Yeah.
01:05:31If you were able to get more of a description,
01:05:33you might be able to pinpoint it,
01:05:34but it would have to be one of your like cousins
01:05:37or someone close to the royal family.
01:05:38Is there anyone in your family
01:05:39who would be trying to undercut you,
01:05:42take your kills, put you in bad standing
01:05:44with the Queen of the Underworld?
01:05:45These amulets are only held by royal prestige,
01:05:48so it has to be someone of royal lineage
01:05:49to have this amulet,
01:05:51and I do have a cousin.
01:05:54Who?
01:05:55How long can you keep legs?
01:05:57Like, how long does the effect last?
01:05:59Well, you know, I'm half mer-person and half...
01:06:02Yeah, you want to let your mom forget.
01:06:03Per-person.
01:06:05Mer-person.
01:06:06Mer-person and per-person.
01:06:07And so I have my legs full time,
01:06:09but there is a charm that we have
01:06:12down in Riverdeep Edge.
01:06:14Everdeep.
01:06:15Everdeep.
01:06:16That can give you legs for 12 hours.
01:06:1812 hours?
01:06:1912 hours only.
01:06:20They can't be gone too long.
01:06:21But the water's that far,
01:06:22so it takes half a day's journey to get here.
01:06:24So by the time you get here...
01:06:25Isn't that 12 hours?
01:06:26Let me be clear.
01:06:27So by the time you get here,
01:06:28your legs are back to...
01:06:29Well, the lake by your house.
01:06:30Could they stop there?
01:06:31Oh, they can stop in the water.
01:06:32Yes, the water.
01:06:33Got it.
01:06:34Okay, that makes sense.
01:06:35Wait, so you get in the water to get the legs back?
01:06:37I think what happens...
01:06:38To rest.
01:06:39Yeah, it lasts for 12 hours,
01:06:40then once you rest for a little bit,
01:06:41you put it back on,
01:06:42you can go back out and start walking again.
01:06:43Is that correct?
01:06:44Yes.
01:06:45So why wouldn't you just bring a bag of water?
01:06:46Well, you have to be submerged.
01:06:47Submerged.
01:06:48A trash bag of water.
01:06:49We don't have trash bags.
01:06:51You can fit in a bag of water.
01:06:52We don't have trash bags.
01:06:53Also, you don't put plastic in the ocean.
01:06:55It's the water.
01:06:56But that's why it's outside of the ocean,
01:06:57with the water.
01:06:58They're very sensitive to plastic in the ocean.
01:06:59Please don't bring it up around here.
01:07:00Okay, I'm just saying.
01:07:01I'm just saying.
01:07:02Troyan is very sensitive to plastic in the ocean.
01:07:04It's a really sore subject.
01:07:06Can I go invisible right now?
01:07:09You can't go invisible at all.
01:07:10Oh, that's funny.
01:07:11And I want to remind you,
01:07:12we see you.
01:07:13We can see you.
01:07:15The whole bar,
01:07:16you hear a gasp from the whole bar
01:07:18as Twyla believes she has gone invisible.
01:07:20And just fully naked in the bar.
01:07:22Fully naked.
01:07:23On her phone.
01:07:24Nobody can hear her.
01:07:25Yeah, we cut back to the bar.
01:07:26Bump Williams goes,
01:07:27I gotta be honest,
01:07:28I like what's going on back here.
01:07:31This whole situation works for me.
01:07:33So, if someone came on land
01:07:36and they got legs and they're merfolk,
01:07:38they had to have had to stop
01:07:39by a body of water on the way back.
01:07:41So we can trace them.
01:07:43Amazing.
01:07:44You two have that interaction.
01:07:45We're going to cut back to Twyla and Princess
01:07:47over at the bar.
01:07:48So Bump looks and says,
01:07:49I hope I've not given the wrong impression.
01:07:54And if you want to punish me for my rudeness,
01:07:57I absolutely would be more than fine with that.
01:08:01Punch him in the face.
01:08:02I do.
01:08:03I do want to punch him so bad.
01:08:05I hate this guy.
01:08:07I'm actually kind of keen on him.
01:08:09He's kind of cute.
01:08:10I don't like him.
01:08:11Punch him, punch him, punch him.
01:08:12Let's get our first attack roll in the campaign.
01:08:14I'm going to hit someone.
01:08:15Let's hit somebody.
01:08:17So we're going to go ahead and attack
01:08:19to remind you of some of your abilities.
01:08:20Like if it's a full battle,
01:08:22you're going to often want to go into a rage.
01:08:24I'm not sure if you're at that point yet.
01:08:26I don't need to go into a rage.
01:08:27Great.
01:08:28You also have an ability called Reckless Attack
01:08:30that lets you take a big swing.
01:08:32It lets you roll an attack with advantage,
01:08:34but it means that anyone who wants to attack you
01:08:37has an easier time doing that.
01:08:39I just want to punch him clean and simple.
01:08:40Clean and simple.
01:08:41Give me that D20 and roll it in the box.
01:08:4320.
01:08:44And you're going to add eight to this roll.
01:08:46Plus eight.
01:08:47Hit him hard, hit him hard.
01:08:49Plus eight.
01:08:51A 16 plus eight.
01:08:54You're going to kill him.
01:08:55Oh my God.
01:08:56A 24.
01:08:58So Bump looks up and says,
01:08:59if there's any way I can.
01:09:01And a massive fist.
01:09:04Go ahead.
01:09:05Just describe what it looks like
01:09:07as Princess hits this goblin.
01:09:09She's very casual.
01:09:11He's trying to talk to her and come on up to her.
01:09:13He's like over here and she just goes.
01:09:16This goblin, like skipping a stone across a lake,
01:09:19just hits four different tabletops across the bar.
01:09:22Dragon Ball Z.
01:09:23Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.
01:09:24Yeah, full Dragon Ball Z.
01:09:25Roll Shatter.
01:09:27Shatters a window and is gone.
01:09:30As he scatters, as you hit him,
01:09:32his jingling coat drops a couple different things.
01:09:36Cling, cling, cling, cling.
01:09:37Full like Sonic the Hedgehog style.
01:09:39Like gold rings, like pow.
01:09:42And you see there are a couple
01:09:44of these beautiful opal clasps.
01:09:48There are about,
01:09:49we'll say there's like five opal clasps on the ground.
01:09:52The gem is set into silver.
01:09:56And as you look at the gem,
01:09:58it swims with a little bit of translucency.
01:10:01At first you wonder if there are cracks
01:10:03or something within the gemstone.
01:10:04But as you look deeper,
01:10:05you see that the gem is flawless.
01:10:06It's just that it contains a kind of mist
01:10:09or fog within it.
01:10:11Do you pick them up off the ground
01:10:14or do you leave them there?
01:10:16If you're gonna pick them up,
01:10:17put on gloves first.
01:10:19Just in case.
01:10:20Okay, yeah, yeah.
01:10:21But we should definitely pick them up.
01:10:23We should definitely pick them up.
01:10:25You pick them up.
01:10:26Either of you can give me an Arcana check if you like.
01:10:29That's one of your skills on your character sheet.
01:10:31You're more magic.
01:10:33What's an Arcana spell?
01:10:34What does Arcana mean?
01:10:35So Arcana is the knowledge of magic.
01:10:38Like arcane.
01:10:39That should be you.
01:10:40I'll give it to you.
01:10:41What do I do?
01:10:42Roll your D20 and you're gonna add your Arcana check.
01:10:44And we'll set a low DC.
01:10:45It's just a DC 10.
01:10:46You just need to beat a 10.
01:10:47So I'm gonna roll a D20
01:10:48and then I'm gonna add a number.
01:10:49Yeah, absolutely.
01:10:50And what number is that?
01:10:51Whatever on your character sheet right over here.
01:10:54It is the number next to the Arcana scope.
01:10:56Look, it's right there, look.
01:10:57You are plus two.
01:10:58Plus two, okay.
01:10:59Great, so you just need an eight or higher.
01:11:00Is your vision invisible too?
01:11:02Yes, yes.
01:11:04You're full of buff naked.
01:11:07Look, I turned 38 and it's awful.
01:11:11Okay.
01:11:12Okay.
01:11:13Bitch, 38.
01:11:14I'm 35.
01:11:15You know, when you turn 36,
01:11:16your knees can tell when it's gonna rain.
01:11:18Just so you know.
01:11:19I'll be prepared.
01:11:20And I bet you it rains in Kvalda.
01:11:23Kvalda.
01:11:24Kvalda.
01:11:25Kvalda.
01:11:26Kvalda.
01:11:27Well, that's what Twila has a Bostonian accent.
01:11:30Kvalda.
01:11:31All right, let me roll this.
01:11:32All right, Arcana, Arcana.
01:11:33And it needs to be more than eight
01:11:35because we need to add two
01:11:36because it needs to be a 10.
01:11:38But I bet you it's gonna be a 17.
01:11:40So it's gonna end up being a 19.
01:11:42Honey!
01:11:43Oh, it's 11.
01:11:44So 13, which is my lucky number.
01:11:46Amazing.
01:11:47Wow.
01:11:48Twila, you've seen these.
01:11:49Twila, you've seen these before.
01:11:50Spies of the forces of Queen Titania
01:11:54used to wear these.
01:11:55They are called wraith clasps.
01:11:58Titania's a fairy queen, right?
01:12:00Titania's a fairy queen, that's right.
01:12:01But in this war between the undead
01:12:04and the fairy realms,
01:12:05some fairies needed to disguise themselves
01:12:08to go behind enemy lines.
01:12:10But that's a very dangerous thing to do
01:12:11because fairies are so visibly alive.
01:12:13They're filled with the power of nature.
01:12:15So these wraith clasps are not actually
01:12:19the magic of the dead.
01:12:20They're illusions.
01:12:21And by wearing a wraith clasp,
01:12:23you may disguise yourself as a member of the dead.
01:12:27So attaching them to your body.
01:12:29I'm in drag.
01:12:30We are getting in drag, honey.
01:12:33I'm in drag, honey.
01:12:34As an undead baby.
01:12:36There's five of them.
01:12:37We're going to need these
01:12:38when we go to the underworld.
01:12:39Perfect.
01:12:40But you found them,
01:12:41so you can have two.
01:12:42You can make earrings,
01:12:43and then we'll get like-
01:12:44Oh, it's just little.
01:12:45Two little bags.
01:12:46Oh, but you're going to be double dead.
01:12:47Double dead.
01:12:49Why are they not called the alive?
01:12:51Oh, the undead,
01:12:52why are they not called the alive?
01:12:53Because they exist as neither living nor dead.
01:12:56They do not breathe.
01:12:58Blood does not flow in their bodies.
01:12:59They are cold to the touch.
01:13:01They move in a sinister mockery of life.
01:13:05I didn't ask for me,
01:13:06I'm pretty sure people are watching at home thinking-
01:13:08They probably don't know.
01:13:09Yeah, I know everything.
01:13:11The undead,
01:13:12yeah, for those at home,
01:13:13the undead are vampires, ghosts,
01:13:15skeletons, zombies,
01:13:17all these things that are sort of
01:13:18the animated living dead.
01:13:20Show visage.
01:13:23What'd you say?
01:13:24Show visage.
01:13:26I'm sorry.
01:13:32Brandon.
01:13:33That's very funny.
01:13:34That's very, very funny.
01:13:36So you pick these up
01:13:38and now looking at them,
01:13:39sometimes it can be dangerous to touch magical objects,
01:13:41but as soon as Twyla recognize them,
01:13:42you know that they're safe to touch.
01:13:43Yeah, they're fine, baby.
01:13:44Touch them.
01:13:45Girl.
01:13:46You take them.
01:13:47Baby.
01:13:48They're Titania.
01:13:49Am I the only one that can use them?
01:13:50Who has more holding power in a bag?
01:13:53They can be used by any who wear them.
01:13:54Okay.
01:13:55Well, I mean, ladies.
01:13:56I have a backpack.
01:13:57I can hold them.
01:13:58Ladies, hold on, hold on.
01:13:59Let me just take a little.
01:14:00Are we still separate?
01:14:01Are we still?
01:14:02I'm gonna say at this point,
01:14:03enough time has passed
01:14:04that you guys can rejoin at the bar.
01:14:05Also, you're no longer being bothered by bumps,
01:14:06so you have a little bit of,
01:14:07like in the noise of a busy tavern,
01:14:09you have a little bit of that
01:14:10kind of like privacy in a crowd.
01:14:12We've already done the meet and greet.
01:14:13Now we're gonna be here
01:14:14and talk about these little amulets?
01:14:16Yeah, wraith clasps.
01:14:17These wraith clasps.
01:14:19I realize now how hard that word is to say out loud.
01:14:22Yeah, wraith clasps.
01:14:23These wraith clasps that I know of,
01:14:26and it's gonna help us.
01:14:28I can keep it if you want.
01:14:29You trust me, right?
01:14:31Or we can all just have one.
01:14:33Yeah, but the way you're saying it
01:14:34makes it sound like I shouldn't trust you.
01:14:35Like I did?
01:14:36Until you said it like that.
01:14:37Like I was like, yeah, I trust.
01:14:39You know, pretty much I trust Fyla,
01:14:40but then you said it all weird.
01:14:42I'm telling you to trust me.
01:14:43And you're saying that these wraith clasps
01:14:45can get us, can make us undead?
01:14:47They can make us look undead.
01:14:49Yeah, what it's gonna do
01:14:50is it's gonna disguise us
01:14:51so that people who are chasing after us
01:14:52don't see, especially me,
01:14:53because I'm a fae.
01:14:54Okay.
01:14:55You know, I'm so lively
01:14:56because I'm of the earth, you know.
01:14:58I'm vibrant.
01:14:59So with these little wraith clasps,
01:15:02it helps me appear as though
01:15:04I am also the undead.
01:15:06With your consent,
01:15:08can I detect thoughts with you real quick?
01:15:10Because I want to make sure you're not doing a thing.
01:15:12The way you said it, it made me uneasy.
01:15:14I'm not gonna lie, I want to be open.
01:15:15I want to be honest.
01:15:16With my consent,
01:15:17I would like to do a detect thought.
01:15:18You do not have my consent.
01:15:19So the moment,
01:15:20the moment Twilight turns around,
01:15:22Gertrude does it anyway.
01:15:28Now the cool thing about detect thoughts too
01:15:29is detect thoughts is actually
01:15:30a pretty powerful spell.
01:15:31It lasts for a while,
01:15:33and while you have it,
01:15:34you can move your detect thoughts
01:15:36over groups of people.
01:15:38You can scan a room with it.
01:15:40You can sort of like,
01:15:41but I'll say it captures surface thoughts,
01:15:43and the way detect thoughts works as a spell
01:15:45is it only captures sort of
01:15:46what is most on the mind of a person
01:15:48at a given moment.
01:15:49But if you want to probe deeper,
01:15:51you have to roll dice to see if you're successful.
01:15:55What are Twyla's surface thoughts in this moment
01:15:59as she speaks about the magic of the wraith clasps
01:16:02and sort of like what they're for?
01:16:04Well, honestly,
01:16:05Twyla hasn't seen these wraith clasps
01:16:07in a really long time,
01:16:08so she's just trying to recall,
01:16:09which is probably why she sounds like
01:16:10she's not being trustworthy.
01:16:12Bob.
01:16:13Gertrude.
01:16:14Gertrude.
01:16:15Gertrude.
01:16:17Bob trusts Jujubee,
01:16:18but Gertrude does not trust Twyla.
01:16:20Well, Twyla's fine.
01:16:21It's okay.
01:16:22Gertrude, you sense the depth
01:16:26of sort of the honesty here.
01:16:27I mean, probably you pick up some extra information
01:16:29about the association with like,
01:16:32I think you're getting some of the emotional heat
01:16:34of like what the clasps mean to Twyla,
01:16:37but you sense an honesty in talking about
01:16:40how useful these objects are.
01:16:41Got it.
01:16:42Do you sense an honesty?
01:16:43I do sense an honesty, yeah.
01:16:44Well, Gertrude does.
01:16:45Gertrude does.
01:16:46I'll remember that on this journey.
01:16:52The important thing is that
01:16:53when we go to the underworld,
01:16:54this will be really useful.
01:16:55We're protected.
01:16:56Yeah, we're protected.
01:16:57To put these on,
01:16:58and we can like be like zombies.
01:16:59Yeah.
01:17:00And hopefully we won't need them
01:17:01until we get there.
01:17:02Yeah.
01:17:03But I will say,
01:17:04there is the case of the amulet.
01:17:05Yeah, your merfolk amulet.
01:17:07It's a merfolk amulet.
01:17:08So I'll say that you,
01:17:09we can just say that you share the information
01:17:11that you've collected separately.
01:17:12So we need to tell you all
01:17:13that we need to go get to a body of water real quick,
01:17:15because we think there's an assassin here
01:17:17who is trying to take Troyenne's kills
01:17:20and put her in bad standing
01:17:22with the queen of the underworld.
01:17:23Yes.
01:17:24Gertrude,
01:17:25give me a perception check with advantage.
01:17:27So the D, and the six?
01:17:29No, the-
01:17:30Oh no, just the D20.
01:17:31Roll it twice and take the better of the two rolls.
01:17:32Oh, that's right.
01:17:33That's what it is.
01:17:34All right.
01:17:35So this is an 11.
01:17:36Okay.
01:17:37Two ones.
01:17:38Love you.
01:17:39And a 16.
01:17:4218.
01:17:43Okay, and add your perception to it.
01:17:44And my perception is very much giving,
01:17:47perception is plus two.
01:17:49Okay.
01:17:5018.
01:17:5118.
01:17:52As you say that,
01:17:53so you still have this detect thoughts spell
01:17:55in your mind as you're speaking to your friends.
01:17:57You know that a merperson,
01:17:59that Dag saw a merperson here earlier.
01:18:01You know legendary American music producer,
01:18:03Mark Ronson is dead.
01:18:04Yes.
01:18:05You know that,
01:18:06some people have clocked your presence here, right?
01:18:09Princess smelled cedar.
01:18:10There's some other things going on.
01:18:11She's still very angry.
01:18:12I'm like,
01:18:13I didn't know you were that mad at the goblin.
01:18:15I was like,
01:18:16oh, I didn't know she was that,
01:18:17she has anger problems.
01:18:18Her family died.
01:18:19As your consciousness moves over the crowd,
01:18:21are you,
01:18:22with those clasps,
01:18:23are you passing them out so that everyone has one?
01:18:25That's what I was trying to suggest,
01:18:26but if you were to,
01:18:27you know,
01:18:28I could carry them in my purse.
01:18:29I'll take,
01:18:30I'll hold mine.
01:18:31I'll hold mine too.
01:18:32Yeah.
01:18:33All right, well,
01:18:34here you go.
01:18:35Here you go.
01:18:36So,
01:18:37who had the extra one?
01:18:38I actually think Princess should carry the extra one
01:18:39because you were the one that found them.
01:18:40And she's big.
01:18:41She's also eight feet tall.
01:18:42She needs more depth.
01:18:43She needs the earrings to balance.
01:18:44It only covers her to the ankles.
01:18:45Princess's decisive swatting of that goblin
01:18:48is what got you the wraith clasp in the first place.
01:18:50So,
01:18:51everyone put a wraith clasp on your character sheet.
01:18:53You can do it in your equipment,
01:18:54like middle,
01:18:55bottom of the sheet.
01:18:56And Princess can put two.
01:18:57Where's the equipment, honey?
01:18:58Oh, there it is.
01:18:59Bottom or the middle?
01:19:00Well,
01:19:01I got the Seed of All Blossoms.
01:19:02Do I put two next to it?
01:19:03Or in that little box of the ribbon?
01:19:04You have one.
01:19:05Oh,
01:19:06right, sorry.
01:19:07Wow.
01:19:08Did you start to steal Princess's wraith clasp?
01:19:10I would not.
01:19:11Never.
01:19:12Your detect thoughts,
01:19:13so you still,
01:19:14it's powerful magic to summon the ability
01:19:15to hear the hidden thoughts of others.
01:19:17And even as the spell is fading,
01:19:19as you talk to your companions,
01:19:20you're talking about these wraith clasps
01:19:22and you hear a voice somewhere in the room go,
01:19:26they got the goblin's wraith clasps.
01:19:29Someone thinking it to themselves.
01:19:31Wait, no,
01:19:32who's thinking I just hear the thought?
01:19:33I think on an 18 perception,
01:19:34you dart out of the corner of your eye.
01:19:36That young kid,
01:19:38the like helper,
01:19:40Wallace,
01:19:41who got your water.
01:19:42We're just talking about Wallace.
01:19:44You look at Wallace,
01:19:46who's,
01:19:47you know,
01:19:48looks like a young,
01:19:49handsome,
01:19:50stable hand.
01:19:52Is he like a child or a young adult?
01:19:54Early 20s.
01:19:55Early 20s, got it.
01:19:56Relatable to me.
01:19:57But you notice,
01:19:58you know,
01:19:59he's,
01:20:00I wouldn't say he's,
01:20:01he's not as like sort of peasant as like Johan
01:20:03that we met in your memory.
01:20:05He's wearing like a nice green jerkin.
01:20:06It's like simple.
01:20:07He's like wearing,
01:20:08you know,
01:20:09the clothes of like someone who lives in town
01:20:10and works in a tavern.
01:20:11But you notice a strange thing.
01:20:13For a kid who's like a stable hand,
01:20:15the kid they send to run and get water,
01:20:16you see a little glimmer of a silver chain around his neck
01:20:19and you see that he's got a wraith clasp
01:20:22hidden under his shirt
01:20:23and his is not silvery.
01:20:25It's a deep blood red.
01:20:27And you see the kid,
01:20:29and what I'm gonna need from you now
01:20:32is a stealth check to disguise your glance.
01:20:35Otherwise Wallace is gonna notice
01:20:37that you've clocked him.
01:20:38I'm gonna roll.
01:20:39What am I gonna roll?
01:20:40You're gonna roll a d20.
01:20:41You're gonna add your stealth skill.
01:20:42My stealth skill is very much giving plus three.
01:20:45All right, stealth.
01:20:46You need to beat a 12.
01:20:48I'm at 11 plus three is 14.
01:20:52So you are able to,
01:20:53your glance is shielded enough.
01:20:55You are subtle enough and practiced in these ways
01:20:57to not give yourself away.
01:20:58You see that rather than like noticing
01:21:00and bolting from the room,
01:21:01Wallace continues to like take trays of drinks
01:21:04and you see sort of tightens the strings
01:21:06around the top of his shirt a little more.
01:21:08Continues to put drinks around the tavern.
01:21:10But you notice this,
01:21:11yeah, this young stable hand
01:21:12who's like, you know,
01:21:13working here at the tavern serving drinks
01:21:15has a pretty powerful magical item around.
01:21:18Am I allowed to use,
01:21:19I have something in here
01:21:20that lets me talk to people in my head.
01:21:22Yeah, message.
01:21:24Message, can I message Twyla?
01:21:26Yeah.
01:21:27Okay, so I'm gonna message Twyla.
01:21:28Cool.
01:21:29And tell her about this kid,
01:21:30the water kid.
01:21:31How do I hear it?
01:21:32You just hear.
01:21:33You know the most about the magic.
01:21:34Then I'll literally be looking around like,
01:21:35what the fuck am I saying?
01:21:36And I'll say.
01:21:37I'm gonna start by saying,
01:21:38don't look around.
01:21:39I'm starting by saying,
01:21:41Twyla, don't freak out.
01:21:43Stay calm.
01:21:45And I know you can hear my thoughts.
01:21:47No one else can hear them right now.
01:21:48Okay, but let me act natural.
01:21:49Yeah, act natural.
01:21:50Yeah, yeah.
01:21:51Now just so you know,
01:21:52that kid over there,
01:21:53the one who got your water,
01:21:54he has a rave class.
01:21:55His is not the same color.
01:21:56His is like a deep, deep red.
01:21:59And he's hiding it.
01:22:00He's hiding it.
01:22:01So just be.
01:22:02I said be.
01:22:03You need to roll a fucking stealth.
01:22:05Yeah, actually,
01:22:06what I'm gonna need from everyone here
01:22:07is I'm gonna need a performance check
01:22:09to be normal.
01:22:10Like being in a group of friends
01:22:11where half of them start talking telepathically.
01:22:14It's like, I'm gonna need.
01:22:15And we're looking like,
01:22:16what's Twyla acting like?
01:22:17What's wrong with her?
01:22:18Yeah, the conversation has stopped
01:22:19completely dead in the middle.
01:22:21Because my stealth check is killer.
01:22:22It's just you just walking around going.
01:22:24Just go ahead.
01:22:25She's invisible again.
01:22:26I'm gonna say I need a performance
01:22:28or deception roll.
01:22:30You can choose which one you want.
01:22:31What does deception do?
01:22:32Deception is the same thing.
01:22:33It's like being.
01:22:34Deception is like lying
01:22:35and being kind of manipulative.
01:22:36Everyone has to do it?
01:22:37No, you've already made your stealth.
01:22:38You're okay.
01:22:39How dare you ask what that means?
01:22:41You're crazy.
01:22:42So,
01:22:43and let me know the number.
01:22:44So you roll your d20
01:22:45and you add either performance or deception.
01:22:48Whichever one you want.
01:22:49Can I choose after?
01:22:50You can choose it after.
01:22:51Do the one that's higher.
01:22:52Performance or?
01:22:53Deception.
01:22:54So 12.
01:22:55They both suit for me.
01:22:56Yeah, mine is 12 plus two.
01:22:5814.
01:22:59Oh!
01:23:00What's that?
01:23:01Incredible.
01:23:02What was that when you were fucking throwing?
01:23:03I'm gonna say on a natural 20.
01:23:05Troyann,
01:23:06you have enough training as an assassin
01:23:08and you know when covert things are happening
01:23:11and I think on a 20 deception
01:23:14just can clock
01:23:16already feeling kind of a synergy,
01:23:19a moment of knowing how your fellow heroes
01:23:21and travelers work
01:23:23that I think you can just start talking
01:23:25because you know
01:23:26that a secret hidden conversation is happening
01:23:28and your nat 20 covers the entire group.
01:23:31So you are not suspicious
01:23:33as you two confer telepathic.
01:23:35So we're all up to speed.
01:23:36All up to speed.
01:23:37And I'll say that your message cantrip
01:23:38can actually occur between all four of you.
01:23:40So you can all have a telepathic conversation
01:23:42while maintaining the appearance
01:23:44of like being lively and talkative.
01:23:46I think I want to say that I feel like
01:23:48and Princess, please don't get.
01:23:51Flying to a rage?
01:23:52Yeah.
01:23:53Yeah, no, I'll try.
01:23:54I think that we should follow this kid after work
01:23:57and find out what's up with him.
01:23:58Like when he's alone, corner him
01:24:00and be like, what's up with this thing?
01:24:01Well, I think that since it's a different color,
01:24:04he's probably undead pretending to be not undead.
01:24:07That sounds like it.
01:24:08Like it is.
01:24:09And you know about the undead.
01:24:11Does he look familiar?
01:24:12He does look like someone I have seen down there.
01:24:15Really?
01:24:16Should I get thirsty again
01:24:18and ask for flower water
01:24:19so Wallace can go to the well to get us some water
01:24:21and then we can go over there
01:24:22and just stop that motherfucker now.
01:24:24Oh, I'm so thirsty.
01:24:26We can go around the back and meet him at the well
01:24:28and be like, what's up?
01:24:29Yeah.
01:24:30I'm thirsty.
01:24:31You see Kasra goes,
01:24:34very well, if you put some clothes on
01:24:36I'd be happy to get you a drink.
01:24:38Twyla.
01:24:39I've had her on the ground next to me.
01:24:42Twyla.
01:24:43Sorry, it got really hot in the tavern.
01:24:48I'm not from here.
01:24:49She looks at you and says, all right,
01:24:51well, would you like something stiff
01:24:53or are you still sticking with the water?
01:24:55Same water.
01:24:56I just want five gallons of it
01:24:57so it's going to take a while, right?
01:24:59Wallace, go get the big bucket.
01:25:01We want five gallons of water for one of our guests.
01:25:04You're so tiny.
01:25:05I wonder what kind of plants there are on this island place.
01:25:08We should go look at stuff.
01:25:10Let's go see.
01:25:11Let's go to the back.
01:25:12Okay, so it's up to you.
01:25:14You can just walk straight out to the well
01:25:16if you want to go stealthily, you can.
01:25:18Let's hang out a little bit.
01:25:19Let him go.
01:25:20We'll give him a minute or two to walk there
01:25:22and then we'll go after him one by one.
01:25:24Otherwise, we're all leaving.
01:25:26Remember, Dag keeps an eye on everything.
01:25:28Dag knows everything going on here.
01:25:29And also, that's a smart move to do five gallons of water
01:25:31because he's going to be there for a minute.
01:25:33So you can all, I'm going to say,
01:25:34without even needing to roll,
01:25:35each of you one by one peels out from the tavern,
01:25:38covering your exit so it's not conspicuous.
01:25:41And as you move,
01:25:42are you trying to surround the well stealthily
01:25:44or are you just walking straight up?
01:25:46I think we walk straight up.
01:25:49So piece by piece, you all peel around
01:25:51and you see, you know,
01:25:53Wallace kind of hoisting water up out of the well
01:25:55and pouring it into like a big sort of,
01:25:57you know, barrel to bring back.
01:25:59Princess, drop the axe really heavy
01:26:00to like establish dominance and make him turn around.
01:26:05You drop the axe.
01:26:06Go ahead and roll intimidation for me, the d20.
01:26:10Intimidation.
01:26:14That's a three.
01:26:17Three plus five.
01:26:18Three plus five, that's an eight.
01:26:20So you drop the axe.
01:26:22Wallace turns to look at the axe that drops there,
01:26:25turns to look at you,
01:26:26sees all the rest of you sort of gathered around here.
01:26:32My lady, I'm so sorry.
01:26:34I'm getting the water as fast as I can.
01:26:37Is there anything I can help you all?
01:26:41I wanna use mage hand to pop his shirt open
01:26:48and reveal this chalice.
01:26:50Hell yes.
01:26:51You're gonna do that
01:26:52and I'm gonna need everybody to roll initiative.
01:26:56It's one of the numbers
01:26:57at the very top of your character sheet.
01:26:58It's next to your armor class.
01:27:00Initiative plus three.
01:27:01You have plus 14.
01:27:02Okay.
01:27:03Plus 14.
01:27:0417 plus three.
01:27:05Oh God.
01:27:06Incredible.
01:27:07So roll and let me know what you get.
01:27:09Okay, I have 15 plus three.
01:27:11I'm a six plus five.
01:27:13Eight.
01:27:14Eight plus 14.
01:27:15That is 22.
01:27:1622, yeah.
01:27:17Twyla, her fairy reflexes are like incredible.
01:27:21That's a lot.
01:27:22Quick on the jump.
01:27:23So the sort of surprise round kicks off.
01:27:26So Gertrude acts first,
01:27:28even though you rolled a lower number
01:27:29because you sort of act in your own round.
01:27:31You telekinetically, your mage hand,
01:27:34it's a burst of magic
01:27:35and you see the strings pop off of Wallace's jerkin,
01:27:38revealing this glowing red wraith clasp.
01:27:41You all immediately see Wallace drops the act and books.
01:27:45He dips down
01:27:46and is gonna try to sprint towards the wood line.
01:27:48However, Twyla and Princess are going to be able to act
01:27:51in that order before him.
01:27:53So Twyla, you are first to act.
01:27:55As you see, this guy's gonna make a break.
01:27:57Hold on, let me look at one.
01:27:58Let me see.
01:27:59Let me see.
01:28:00What do I do?
01:28:01What do I do?
01:28:02Oh Jesus.
01:28:03Oh my goodness.
01:28:04You're fast, right?
01:28:05No, you're fast.
01:28:06I think I am.
01:28:07We can see really good in the dark.
01:28:08Wait.
01:28:09We can see really good.
01:28:10Hold on, hold on.
01:28:11He's running towards the forest?
01:28:12He's running towards the forest.
01:28:13Do we follow him?
01:28:14Yes, baby, yes we do
01:28:15because we gotta find out.
01:28:16And you know what I'm gonna do right now?
01:28:18I'm gonna use a spell
01:28:19and I'm gonna summon a beast.
01:28:20Oh my God.
01:28:21That seems aggressive.
01:28:22Zero to 60.
01:28:23Twyla, Twyla.
01:28:24I summon a beast.
01:28:25Twyla, you are a soldier's man with a no-knock warrant.
01:28:28I don't care.
01:28:30We need to know why this little shit has this.
01:28:34This is bad cop, worst cop.
01:28:35I don't care.
01:28:37I may be a fairy and tiny and everything,
01:28:39but you don't fuck with me and my friends.
01:28:41So I'm gonna summon a beast
01:28:42that's gonna be a helpful forest creature
01:28:44to come and aid me and us.
01:28:47Incredible.
01:28:48Am I playing this right?
01:28:49You're playing it perfectly.
01:28:50This fucking rules.
01:28:52Twyla, is there a type of beast
01:28:55that Twyla tends to call on for aid
01:28:57from the Woodland Realm?
01:28:58Any kind of beast.
01:28:59Any kind of beast?
01:29:01A cat tree.
01:29:02A cat tree?
01:29:03Yes.
01:29:04What's a cat tree?
01:29:05It's a tree that looks like a cat,
01:29:07and it's a beast.
01:29:08That's her beast, girl.
01:29:09You see, all of you see-
01:29:10I thought you were gonna call out for a second.
01:29:11All of you see, first you're like,
01:29:13oh, something's trapped in that hedge.
01:29:15And then you see, nope, the hedge is moving.
01:29:18A snarl of tree limbs, briars, thorns,
01:29:22with blossoming jasmine all throughout its body
01:29:25forms into a saber-toothed tiger.
01:29:27This massive panther
01:29:29with these huge thorns for fangs
01:29:32and leaps from the wood line
01:29:35and is going to begin to kind of triangulate.
01:29:38And Princess, you see that you now have
01:29:41this panther made of thorns
01:29:43summoned by Twyla helping you.
01:29:44What are you gonna do as you see
01:29:46Wallace begins to book it away from the well?
01:29:48Run and grab him?
01:29:49Hell yeah.
01:29:50So Wallace has a speed of 30.
01:29:51I believe your speed is 40.
01:29:53Oh.
01:29:54You don't say.
01:29:56Oops.
01:29:57Absolutely trivial.
01:29:58So what we're gonna do now
01:29:59is Wallace is making it for the wood line.
01:30:01The panther is going to give you the help action
01:30:03which means that you are gonna roll with advantage.
01:30:06And I'm gonna say this is pretty important.
01:30:08So we're gonna bring out the Box of Doom.
01:30:10All right, honey.
01:30:12That was my nickname in high school.
01:30:14I'm gonna roll for Wallace first.
01:30:19Wallace is way stronger than he appears to be.
01:30:23He's gonna add.
01:30:24I think he's probably undead.
01:30:26So he's gonna add a five to this roll
01:30:30in the Box of Doom.
01:30:32He only rolls a five.
01:30:33Okay.
01:30:34So princess, you are going to add
01:30:36your athletics check here.
01:30:39Come on, princess.
01:30:40And you're gonna roll twice
01:30:41because the panther's helping you.
01:30:42No whammies, no whammies, no whammies.
01:30:43Plus eight.
01:30:44Oh, you got this.
01:30:46What is that?
01:30:47Better not be a two.
01:30:48That is a 15.
01:30:50Incredible.
01:30:5115 plus eight.
01:30:52Okay.
01:30:53See if we can beat it.
01:30:5515 is the higher of the rolls.
01:30:57So that is a 23 on a grapple check.
01:31:01Princess, how do you tie this guy up
01:31:04in a knot as you catch him?
01:31:06Well, he's wearing a, what's it called?
01:31:08A jerkin?
01:31:09A jerkin, yes.
01:31:10What is that?
01:31:11A strings?
01:31:12Yeah, it's kind of like this shirt here.
01:31:13It's just sort of like a simple medieval shirt.
01:31:15Really popular back then.
01:31:16Everyone loved a jerkin.
01:31:18Green was the color.
01:31:20Yeah, no.
01:31:21I enjoy a jerkin.
01:31:24I want to use his clothes to tie him,
01:31:27hands behind his back.
01:31:28Like you rip his shirt off?
01:31:29And then hold him up like a...
01:31:31You rip a jerkin off his body?
01:31:33Like a to-go container.
01:31:35You see, yeah, all of you watch Princess vault
01:31:38in a single leap.
01:31:39As the panther blocks his path,
01:31:42he suddenly stops running
01:31:43and Princess just lands knee first
01:31:46into like, boom,
01:31:48and just right into his lower back.
01:31:49He sprawls.
01:31:51She like wraps up his sleeves.
01:31:54He's got like a couple strings on his sleeves
01:31:55and literally he is like a four corner bag
01:31:58of his pant legs and sleeves
01:32:00and you are holding him,
01:32:01like his back painfully arched.
01:32:03Oh, I like that.
01:32:04And all of you watch as Princess yanks him up
01:32:09and you hear a snap of his spine
01:32:12and he fully folds in half.
01:32:16Dang!
01:32:18Is he hurt?
01:32:19Yes, his spine is broken.
01:32:21Well, here's what happens.
01:32:22For a moment, you're all like,
01:32:23oh my God, we killed Wallace.
01:32:25And you see Wallace hanging there
01:32:27and all of you watch as the figure
01:32:30that has just had its spine snapped goes...
01:32:37The wraith clasp changes color
01:32:39and his face turns sallow white.
01:32:41Do it.
01:32:42Rotting.
01:32:43You can see some of his teeth
01:32:45through a hole in the side of his cheek.
01:32:47I cannot believe you guys guessed that.
01:32:49That's so fucking cool.
01:32:50Incredible.
01:32:51You didn't hurt him, you did that.
01:32:52You did that.
01:32:53That was great, Princess.
01:32:54And you see Wallace rotting eyes.
01:32:57You see there's like some sort of maggot
01:32:59crawling in the corner of one of his eyes.
01:33:01Looks up and says,
01:33:03well, you've broken my spine.
01:33:08Is there anything I can do to help you?
01:33:12What do we do?
01:33:13Wait, wait, is spine breaking like the thing?
01:33:17It's upsetting at least.
01:33:19He seems clearly upset about the fact that his spine is broken.
01:33:21It's an inconvenience to say the least.
01:33:23But is that how you reveal people who are disguised?
01:33:26It seems that what happened was
01:33:28when his spine broke and he didn't,
01:33:30and he can still talk and look around,
01:33:32he sort of went, well, the jig is up.
01:33:34The jig is up, yeah.
01:33:35Okay, so his wig came off.
01:33:38So I mean, I think we should ask him,
01:33:39does he know anything about who killed Mark Ronson?
01:33:42There we go, ask him.
01:33:43He did work in the tavern.
01:33:45So he might know.
01:33:46Okay, what's his name again?
01:33:48Wallace.
01:33:49Wallace.
01:33:50Is that even his real name?
01:33:51It's not his real name.
01:33:52It's probably Carl or Chuck.
01:33:54It's probably Wallace.
01:33:55Drop the ass, no one knows.
01:33:57So we're just gonna ask him.
01:34:00We're gonna ask him.
01:34:04You can't use your real name.
01:34:05Wallace.
01:34:07We're gonna ask him,
01:34:08Wallace, do you know who killed Mark Ronson?
01:34:13Not only do I know who killed Mark Ronson,
01:34:16I think you know who killed Mark Ronson.
01:34:19Wait a minute.
01:34:20He knows who you are, girl.
01:34:21You see, he looks at you and says,
01:34:23your cousin Kina says hello.
01:34:25Kina?
01:34:26Kina, I knew it, cousin KK.
01:34:29Yeah.
01:34:30I knew it.
01:34:31Okay, so where did she go, Wallace?
01:34:33She came in here with some lady,
01:34:36I don't know, just white eyes.
01:34:39She had a symbol of the sun god on her.
01:34:42Looks like she was asking about a witch.
01:34:47Gertie.
01:34:48Wait a minute.
01:34:49Okay, I didn't tell you all this,
01:34:50but I had to flee my home
01:34:52because I was being hunted down
01:34:54by the Inquisitor of the Glorious Sun.
01:35:00You see, it says,
01:35:01yeah, these sun clerics,
01:35:04you know, they're always after the undead,
01:35:08but whatever religious scruple she had,
01:35:11she certainly didn't mind doing business with me.
01:35:16Okay, true.
01:35:17What are you gonna do with this undead guy?
01:35:19So I think I'm gonna,
01:35:21I reach over to Wallace,
01:35:22I snatch his amulet off,
01:35:24and his body just dissipates and he goes away.
01:35:26You see he goes,
01:35:27as he begins to go away,
01:35:29you see that this corrupted wraith clasp,
01:35:32as you said before,
01:35:33this is like fairy magic
01:35:34that has been turned by the undead
01:35:36to disguise them in the world of living.
01:35:38That's crazy, that's crazy.
01:35:39You see that he,
01:35:40and as he goes away,
01:35:42I think all of you see an image.
01:35:45The image you see,
01:35:46as his body turns to mist,
01:35:49is the face that I'm afraid
01:35:52only one of you recognizes.
01:35:54The face of Zaria Hex.
01:35:56So I know who that is.
01:35:57You see her face,
01:35:58and you know that she had the power to create undead.
01:36:01And as he turns, however,
01:36:03I'll add one last detail here,
01:36:05that mist turns to smoke,
01:36:08and that smoke smells like cedar.
01:36:10Oh!
01:36:11Dang.
01:36:13It's all connected.
01:36:15See, I knew it was that bitch.
01:36:17Akina.
01:36:18I'm Bill Akina.
01:36:19What was her name again?
01:36:20Zaria Hex.
01:36:21Zaria Hex is.
01:36:23To be fair,
01:36:24Troy, I thought you were gonna kill him.
01:36:27I thought you were gonna rough him up a little bit.
01:36:29I mean, well,
01:36:30the Sabretooth Tiger already does this.
01:36:32This giant panther comes over to Twyla
01:36:34The line is broken.
01:36:35Yeah, the thorn panther goes,
01:36:37and walks over,
01:36:38and just sort of flops next to Twyla's feet.
01:36:40I was thinking more it was a large tuxedo cat,
01:36:43but we can go with that.
01:36:45It's already canon, it's already canon.
01:36:46Yeah, I'm just saying.
01:36:47Already canon.
01:36:48I think that I release Wallace from some misery.
01:36:50There we go.
01:36:51So now, can I take his amulet,
01:36:52his wraith clasp,
01:36:53and add it to my satchel?
01:36:54Yes.
01:36:55This is going to be a little bit less useful to you,
01:36:57because you are on the living,
01:36:58but it's possible,
01:36:59going to the underworld,
01:37:00that this might be incredibly useful
01:37:02to some of the people who live there.
01:37:03I have to work.
01:37:04Hell yes.
01:37:05We've got to find the Zarya bitch,
01:37:06and talk to her.
01:37:07We do.
01:37:08So the four of you know that,
01:37:10I mean,
01:37:11like,
01:37:12your cousin,
01:37:13and someone that you have been warned about,
01:37:15who you are specifically trying to avoid,
01:37:17seem to be working in cahoots,
01:37:18and not only are they working together,
01:37:20but they clearly had business with this thing
01:37:22that you now know is a creation of Zarya Hex.
01:37:25And all the while,
01:37:27something about that goblin that recognized you,
01:37:30something foul is happening,
01:37:31and I think Troian,
01:37:32you having come through here many times before,
01:37:34even for Greely,
01:37:35that normally has some strange customers come through,
01:37:38this is a deeper sense of danger.
01:37:41Something is at work here,
01:37:43that is not normal for these journeys to the underworld.
01:37:46Music man,
01:37:47we got trouble right here in Greely City.
01:37:48Trouble in the capital T.
01:37:51So all of you look up,
01:37:53and sort of see in the dark,
01:37:54far distant,
01:37:55you know,
01:37:56it's so far away,
01:37:57that you see the flash of lightning,
01:37:58and it takes a couple seconds for the thunder,
01:38:01to hit,
01:38:02but you see illuminated in that lightning,
01:38:04the Temple of Wraiths,
01:38:08Mount Basura.
01:38:09There you go.
01:38:12So I put the question to all of you,
01:38:14even though it is a dangerous journey
01:38:16out through the mountains,
01:38:17knowing what you know about the people
01:38:19that have already appeared here in the town,
01:38:21do you want to try to spend the night to go in the morning,
01:38:25or do you feel that you must journey right away?
01:38:27Do we use?
01:38:29Well, I think we should talk amongst ourselves for a second.
01:38:31Yeah.
01:38:32Because I think that we want to get there before Kila.
01:38:35Kina?
01:38:36Kina.
01:38:37And Kina's obviously had to stop by some water,
01:38:39so if we start now,
01:38:40it is more dangerous,
01:38:41but we can get there before her,
01:38:43and intercept the soul.
01:38:46Is there a way to make Kina not see any water?
01:38:48Not to see any?
01:38:49Well, she might already be at the waterfall, we know.
01:38:51Yeah.
01:38:52But she don't walk that fast, I bet.
01:38:53Well, I don't know.
01:38:54I don't know.
01:38:55She's really powerful.
01:38:56She got some good legs.
01:38:57But what can we do to keep ourselves safe to travel tonight?
01:39:00Well, we can see really good in the dark.
01:39:02Yeah, we can see in the dark perfectly.
01:39:04So what do I do?
01:39:05You're fast,
01:39:06and you get naked sometimes.
01:39:07I think we should do it.
01:39:08I think we should leave now.
01:39:09We should go.
01:39:10We should leave now.
01:39:11Okay.
01:39:12So we can make sure we cut Kina off before she gets to water.
01:39:13All right.
01:39:14Or she might already be there, we don't know.
01:39:15As you begin to journey,
01:39:16yeah, so there's a lot,
01:39:17so as Gertrude has said,
01:39:18if Kina needs to rest to recharge the power of the amulet
01:39:21for a dangerous journey to the underworld,
01:39:22this might be your only window.
01:39:24So making your way,
01:39:26there is still a light lit in that watchtower
01:39:28with a couple guards.
01:39:29Do you want to just head up the main road
01:39:32past the watchtower,
01:39:33or would you try to find an alternate route up to the temple?
01:39:36An alternate route.
01:39:37I think alternate, yeah.
01:39:38Okay.
01:39:39Bob the drag queen would pick the safe road,
01:39:40but Gertrude, she vowed about it.
01:39:42Incredible.
01:39:43So what I will need from all of you
01:39:45is a group stealth check.
01:39:48If you were going to try to move unseen.
01:39:50Ladies, stealth check time.
01:39:52Stealth check, ladies.
01:39:55Ladies, stealth check.
01:39:57I need to move my little thing.
01:39:58I keep on rolling really bad numbers.
01:40:00Minus plus three.
01:40:01It's not a thing, honey.
01:40:02Minus plus five.
01:40:03And I'll say here too,
01:40:04for Twyla's purposes,
01:40:05that this is the type of action
01:40:06that pass without trace would help with.
01:40:08Okay, what does that mean?
01:40:10I'm at eight plus three.
01:40:11That's the spell, the shadow spell.
01:40:13I'm 11.
01:40:14I can do that anytime?
01:40:15You can cast that whenever you want.
01:40:16Oh, she's gonna cast that.
01:40:17So for our spell casters,
01:40:18all spells that are very powerful
01:40:20can only be done a limited number of times,
01:40:22but right now in this circumstance,
01:40:24it might be wise to have for sure.
01:40:26I'm at 11.
01:40:2712 plus five is a 17, right?
01:40:31Stealth.
01:40:32That is correct.
01:40:33So everyone get your stealth
01:40:34and pass without trace
01:40:35allows everybody to add a plus 10 to stealth checks.
01:40:40Do I do that?
01:40:41I'm at 28.
01:40:42I'm at 18.
01:40:4328, incredible.
01:40:4417 plus 10, 27.
01:40:4627.
01:40:47So it's my plus and the plus?
01:40:49And plus 10.
01:40:50So I'm at 11, so I'm at 21.
01:40:5121.
01:40:52Five plus 12, 27.
01:40:54All of you beat a 20.
01:40:56As you head out,
01:40:57rather than going past the watchtower,
01:40:59like you've already been seen enough in town,
01:41:01letting the guards get an eye on your journeying,
01:41:03that goblin, you know,
01:41:04all this weird goings on in town,
01:41:06all of you made the choice
01:41:07to head straight up the cliffside.
01:41:10And Twyla, you whisper,
01:41:12what does it look like as you call in the shadows
01:41:14to protect you and your friends?
01:41:16I kind of imagined it coming from under and up
01:41:19where it was almost like this vacuum
01:41:22where we were just protected like this.
01:41:24So there's this orb of smoke and shadow.
01:41:26Maybe little bits and pieces of things come out of it,
01:41:30but that's our protection.
01:41:32That's what I see it as.
01:41:33Shadows of above, shadows from below
01:41:36cover you like a warm and welcoming blanket.
01:41:39It is the feeling of nighttime as a benevolent mother
01:41:42inviting you into her embrace to be secret and move unseen.
01:41:45You even hear small whispers in Sylvan,
01:41:49the language of the fairies,
01:41:50the grass and the earth whispering to Twyla,
01:41:53we will not betray your steps.
01:41:55No one shall find your tracks this night.
01:41:58Oh, I love that.
01:41:59I don't speak Sylvan, but it sounds nice.
01:42:01Hey, that was really emotional and beautiful.
01:42:03Oh, I'm glad.
01:42:05Tell me more.
01:42:06I want to know more.
01:42:08What else is it saying?
01:42:09What are the next things you'll say?
01:42:10You're amazing, man.
01:42:11Oh, thank you.
01:42:12Okay, what else?
01:42:13Brennan does it again.
01:42:14This is how it started.
01:42:15We're gonna get married soon.
01:42:17And what else do they say in Sylvan?
01:42:20Every step, you're like,
01:42:22well, this stealth spell has a lot of grass
01:42:24talking to Twyla, saying nice compliments.
01:42:27She's just like talking to me in your head,
01:42:29like, girl, I'm busy.
01:42:31You are completely unseen.
01:42:33And not only that,
01:42:34the magic of the wraith clasps that you carry
01:42:36also fools, you know,
01:42:38if there are any strange undead things
01:42:41up on the mountainsides,
01:42:42as often happens in the Mountains of Shadow,
01:42:44their magic will only perceive you
01:42:46as fellow spirits of death
01:42:48moving with those wraith clasps.
01:42:49So you are protected from sight and from magic
01:42:53as you move up the mountainside.
01:42:54Now, normally, scaling these cliffs
01:42:56would be tremendously challenging,
01:42:59but even as the rain begins,
01:43:00Twyla's natural explorer ability
01:43:02prevents you from being slowed,
01:43:04even in difficult terrain.
01:43:06And I'm flying, so.
01:43:07As you journey up the mountainside, Twyla,
01:43:09I think, like, you alight with your wings
01:43:11and are able to scout ahead
01:43:13and find the best hidden paths up through the rocks.
01:43:16So all of you going up the cliffs
01:43:19actually manage to get there even faster
01:43:21than those who are traveling on the road.
01:43:23You might have even beaten people
01:43:24who are taking the long road.
01:43:26We're definitely gonna get there before Kima, Kiki.
01:43:29As you travel up, protected by magic,
01:43:32guided by your woodland ranger up through the hills,
01:43:36the hills become mountains,
01:43:39and covered by the magic of the wraith clasps,
01:43:41you, the rain begins to fall.
01:43:47As it hits Princess's broad shoulders,
01:43:49it just cuts into steam from how naturally
01:43:52filled with that burning rage.
01:43:55And Troyanne, you actually feel
01:43:57the sheen of water cover you once more
01:44:00and feel that restoring and regenerating power here.
01:44:04Yes, yes.
01:44:06Gertrude, as you approach the temple,
01:44:08you hear-
01:44:09The rain makes your knees hurt.
01:44:11Mine are hurting too.
01:44:13Yeah, we're the old ones.
01:44:15A monster.
01:44:16You behold the Temple of Death.
01:44:19Here, a goddess whose name is lost
01:44:24to the people who live below,
01:44:26the goddess of the underworld,
01:44:28had this temple built in her honor,
01:44:30and yet in the long years, her name forgotten.
01:44:35This place now nothing more than a myth,
01:44:39a haunted dwelling of spirits.
01:44:42But with a fabled entrance to the underworld,
01:44:45you see deep shadows awaiting in the entry to the temple.
01:44:51You can feel that coldness of the stone inside,
01:44:56a place not meant for dwelling,
01:44:58but for reverent worship of the spirits of the afterlife.
01:45:03Colder even still than the stones that surround it
01:45:06for its nearness to realms beyond.
01:45:11As you approach, Gertrude,
01:45:13you and you alone hear a whisper on the wind.
01:45:18Oh, Gertrude.
01:45:22Do you come seeking that
01:45:25which all mortals seek never to find?
01:45:30And I think this makes Gertrude very sad.
01:45:33She's at this place.
01:45:34Even though she's here and she's made it this close,
01:45:36she somehow feels like it just won't happen for her.
01:45:39She's always tried to seek her final resting place,
01:45:42and she is tired, she is weary, she is worn out.
01:45:46She's been fighting her whole life
01:45:48longer than anyone should be alive,
01:45:50but she just kind of takes a deep breath and she goes-
01:45:53Heartbreak feels good in a place like this.
01:45:55Heartbreak feels good, and she goes,
01:45:57and then she goes inside.
01:45:59Well, she's not in there yet,
01:46:01but she's feeling like, I can do this.
01:46:03This is my chance, finally.
01:46:06Do all of you enter the Temple of Wraiths?
01:46:09Abso-fucking-lutely.
01:46:11Hell yeah.
01:46:12Sisters.
01:46:13Sisters together facing death itself,
01:46:15you enter the temple.
01:46:18Yawning darkness surrounds you.
01:46:21Tryann, you've been here many times before,
01:46:24and you know the way.
01:46:26At the far end of the temple,
01:46:28there is a circle of stone with ancient runes
01:46:32in the language of the dead written around it.
01:46:36Many tall statues of robed figures
01:46:40with various animal heads.
01:46:43Vulture, jackal, crow, lion.
01:46:48Tree cat.
01:46:49Tree cat.
01:46:50Tuxedo cat.
01:46:51Tuxedo cat.
01:46:54Gaze down.
01:46:56As you step to the edge of the circle,
01:46:59you see one of the statues,
01:47:02the one in the very center looking directly at the doorway
01:47:06but faced down instead to peer at the center
01:47:09of this runed circle.
01:47:12Tryann, as you approach,
01:47:13all of you see a light gleaming from Tryann's satchel.
01:47:18Oh, it's your amulet.
01:47:20Yeah, my amulet.
01:47:21The wraith clasp.
01:47:22Which one is it, though?
01:47:23This is your ancestral one.
01:47:24This is the OG one.
01:47:26Yeah, my amulet.
01:47:27The big one.
01:47:28Not my wraith clasp.
01:47:29You all see the vulture-headed figure
01:47:32in robes carved in stone.
01:47:34The eyes glow red,
01:47:37and a voice echoes from unmoving stone
01:47:40filling each of you with a chill
01:47:43of some unnatural magic.
01:47:46The voice of Gargrim speaks,
01:47:49who you have spoken to many times before.
01:47:52Roar!
01:47:54Tryann, Keeper of Souls.
01:47:59Assassin of the Everdeep.
01:48:03I see this time you do not walk alone.
01:48:08What business do you have with these strangers?
01:48:13We come here to seek a traitor.
01:48:17A traitor?
01:48:18Do you seek?
01:48:20Yes.
01:48:21Do you speak on their behalf, Tryann?
01:48:26No.
01:48:27I've come here for something.
01:48:28I feel like we're at the Wizard of Oz,
01:48:29like we're at the Wizard.
01:48:31I want a heart, I want a brain.
01:48:32He's the wizard!
01:48:35I've come, but I don't intend to leave.
01:48:38I've not told you all this,
01:48:39but this should be my final resting place.
01:48:42Oh, Gertie!
01:48:43Oh, she about to die.
01:48:44Plot twist.
01:48:45I have a question.
01:48:46Yeah, Twyna.
01:48:47Why am I here?
01:48:48Helping you.
01:48:49You're trying to find the people
01:48:50who blew up your, like, family?
01:48:52So we're basically doing the same thing.
01:48:54I think so, because I think the connection
01:48:56is that it's the same person.
01:48:58It's that lady-
01:49:00Zarya, yeah.
01:49:01Zarya.
01:49:02Of course it's Zarya.
01:49:03Fucking Zarya.
01:49:04Zarya.
01:49:05There are many answers here.
01:49:07For Twyla, not only answers
01:49:09as to how your people were destroyed,
01:49:11but also, you still carry the seed of the Allblossom.
01:49:14It's possible that the Goddess of Death
01:49:17might, if you were able to gain audience with her,
01:49:20give you the magic needed to restore the Allblossom
01:49:24and bring light back to the fairy realm.
01:49:27For Princess, the answers of
01:49:29how your family fell into ruin,
01:49:32how they were killed and destroyed,
01:49:34who would have done such a thing?
01:49:36I think that, in hindsight,
01:49:40I probably shouldn't tell the girls yet
01:49:43that I don't intend to leave.
01:49:44Yeah.
01:49:45I feel like this should be my little secret.
01:49:48So...
01:49:50Let me ask this.
01:49:51Can you make a deception roll for me,
01:49:54and can everyone else here make an insight check for me?
01:49:58Insight check.
01:49:59Okay.
01:50:00A d20?
01:50:01It's a d20.
01:50:0214.
01:50:03So, not great, it's an eight.
01:50:05Eight.
01:50:06I'm 27.
01:50:07Wow, 27, incredible.
01:50:08Okay, I'm three.
01:50:10I'm very insightful.
01:50:11Wait, what am I lucky for?
01:50:12What's insight?
01:50:13Insight.
01:50:14Oh, Jesus.
01:50:15Three plus four is lucky number seven.
01:50:17Seven.
01:50:18Troyanne, wait, if you got 27, did you roll a 20?
01:50:20I got a nat 20.
01:50:21Hell yeah!
01:50:22Woo!
01:50:23Yeah!
01:50:24It's giving.
01:50:25I love this, so I think on that roll,
01:50:26and what did you roll for your deception again?
01:50:28I got a three plus five, that's an eight.
01:50:29Eight.
01:50:30And what did Twila get?
01:50:31You got a seven?
01:50:32Yeah.
01:50:33Great, okay.
01:50:34It's insight, right?
01:50:35It's insight, yes.
01:50:36So, Princess, I love, I think that's absolutely right, Bob.
01:50:39I think if you want Gertie to not share that just yet,
01:50:42what does Gertie say instead when this figure Gargrim speaks?
01:50:48She tells Gargrim that she is here with her new friend.
01:50:52She's concerned about this, she's concerned about the merfolk, too.
01:50:57She's like, I'm here to help you.
01:51:00I'm here to help my friend find this traitor.
01:51:02I'm here to find a traitor, but to also restore my, to save Everdeep.
01:51:06Yes.
01:51:07So, Gargrim says,
01:51:08Of course, keeper of souls.
01:51:11Your quest is known to those that guard these halls.
01:51:16Your companions come now for the very first time.
01:51:20As Gertrude speaks, I think, Princess,
01:51:22you definitely clock, I think, on your roll,
01:51:25which beats that deception check.
01:51:27You sense that Gertie is being guarded.
01:51:29Even though you are a barbarian,
01:51:30you spent a lot of time in a noble family
01:51:32that you are used to these social interactions.
01:51:34You can tell when people are keeping the cards close to the chest.
01:51:37On a natural 20, Troyann-
01:51:39That's when Princess goes, she's lying.
01:51:41I love it.
01:51:45Troyann, on a natural 20, I'll actually ask,
01:51:48and I don't think a natural 20 means you have to reveal your secret,
01:51:51but I think Troyann has a sudden deep insight in a moment
01:51:55to emotionally what's going on with Gertie.
01:51:58What does Troyann see?
01:52:00Reading through your masked face,
01:52:03what is the emotion that she sees deeper in Gertrude?
01:52:05Reveal yourself!
01:52:07I think that she can clearly tell that Gertrude is just fully lying,
01:52:13and she can also tell that Gertie is a lot sadder than she's putting off.
01:52:17She kind of has, like, I'm a sad girl, but it's like, no,
01:52:19this thing is giving a long time of yearning,
01:52:22more than anyone's.
01:52:23She's like, wow, this woman is deeply, deep saddened,
01:52:27but also feels intimidated by this place.
01:52:30Is there a therapy in Kelwarda?
01:52:32No.
01:52:33There's no therapy?
01:52:34No.
01:52:35Oh, sorry, honey.
01:52:36Better help.
01:52:38Troyann, you witness that and see, you know,
01:52:41you have lived in the depths your whole life,
01:52:43but you see something truly deep beyond the eyes of your companion.
01:52:47What if she sees, like, what if Troyann,
01:52:51because she's taken a lot of lives,
01:52:53but maybe she's taken the life of someone who was like,
01:52:55just get me.
01:52:56Who cares?
01:52:57They were, like, trying to get it done,
01:52:58and she sees that familiar, that familiarity in there.
01:53:01Yes, I think you see the familiarity of someone
01:53:03that has a different relationship to life and death
01:53:05than you are used to seeing.
01:53:07For Twilight and Princess, you see Gargrim says,
01:53:10And for you, companions of the Keeper of Souls,
01:53:16you seem very alive to me.
01:53:19A fairy and a barbarian, I would assume,
01:53:23do much to avoid the realms of death,
01:53:26not venture into them at their own will.
01:53:30Why do you seek the Underworld?
01:53:33To avenge my people!
01:53:36Is what Twyla says.
01:53:38The halls echo with that,
01:53:40and I think even in the corners of this room
01:53:42with the raw emotion of her voice,
01:53:44you see jasmine petals move,
01:53:48the possibility of deep magic.
01:53:52And you, Princess,
01:53:55to avenge my people, too!
01:54:01Just straight up the same one?
01:54:04Two!
01:54:06As well!
01:54:08See, Gargrim says,
01:54:10Great, so we've got two avenge my peoples.
01:54:13One, one something, I'm just here to help.
01:54:18And Troy-Anne.
01:54:20And Troy-Anne!
01:54:23And I'm Dune-y.
01:54:26Gargrim says,
01:54:28I hope this mission lies at the very center of your heart.
01:54:33For many who seek their heart's desire in the Underworld
01:54:40pay every price for a chance to achieve it
01:54:45and fall eternally short.
01:54:50Like third place?
01:54:52Every time.
01:54:54In the Underworld, it's all last place.
01:54:59I got that, too, once.
01:55:01You see, Gargrim says,
01:55:03This is your final chance, travelers.
01:55:07Step into the circle if you dare,
01:55:09or turn back to the life you knew.
01:55:13We should step into the circle.
01:55:15Do we do it hastily? Are we kind of looking at each other?
01:55:19Twyla actually says,
01:55:21Hey, ladies, I dare you to step into the circle.
01:55:25I have a lot of insight, so I know you guys don't want to go.
01:55:28But I'm going to play along.
01:55:30So you know we all what? Don't want to go.
01:55:32We have to.
01:55:34With a final breath that may be
01:55:36your last breath of the free air of the mortal world,
01:55:40you step into the circle.
01:55:42As you do,
01:55:45the runes grow bright.
01:55:49Light purple, indigo, lavender,
01:55:52and then a crackle of red, a neon orange.
01:55:55And the runes begin to shift and turn.
01:55:58The light surrounds the eyes of Gargrim.
01:56:01Farewell, and good luck on your journeys
01:56:04in the realms of death.
01:56:07And you see the stone circle drops
01:56:10and begins to drop, and you are falling miles
01:56:13through open mist.
01:56:15You feel your stomachs rise within your body.
01:56:18A feeling of wind rushing past you.
01:56:20You can barely breathe. Your lungs have a hard time filling.
01:56:23Lightning. You see screaming spirits of death
01:56:26in a tornado around you.
01:56:28In flashes of light, you see endless platforms of stone
01:56:32connected by writhing bands of pulsating bloodstreams
01:56:36of magical energy.
01:56:38The width of rivers and highways
01:56:40stretching off into the distance.
01:56:42It is floating, broken stone,
01:56:44hanging in space as though suspended
01:56:47by these branches of deadly magic energy.
01:56:51Boom!
01:56:54The stone circle lands here
01:56:58in an endless alien waste.
01:57:01You see, instead of trees,
01:57:03strange arteries and veins
01:57:07of some long-dead magical body
01:57:09erupt from the earth, decaying
01:57:12as though this rocky landscape
01:57:14were once the living body
01:57:18of some endless, vast cosmic entity.

01:57:27Welcome to the underworld.
01:57:29And that's all for this episode of Dimension 20.
01:57:33I wonder what happens next.
01:57:34Tune in next week as we join our questing queens
01:57:37here in the lands of the dead.
01:57:39Farewell!
01:57:41We're in the underworld.
01:57:42Here in the underworld.
01:57:46There is a lot of waste in front of you.
01:57:51It's a long, dangerous journey.
01:57:55Well, I've been here before, and I can tell you for sure
01:57:58that the unalive...
01:57:59The undead.
01:58:00The undead.
01:58:01Yeah.
01:58:02They can smell.
01:58:03The un-not-walking...
01:58:04You come here a lot.
01:58:06I think we have to fight.
01:58:07Oh, no.
01:58:08Let's fight these motherfuckers.
01:58:09I need you to look where the door is.
01:58:11Tell me where the door is.
01:58:12It's the one we came in.
01:58:13Where did we come in?
01:58:14We came in behind us.
01:58:15Can somebody hold my hand?
01:58:16Gertie, we'll get it together.
01:58:18Wow!
01:58:19This is too much pressure!
01:58:21Great, Gertie.
01:58:23A soulful memory sounds like a great exchange to me.
01:58:25Some might say a Monet exchange.
01:58:31Dinner is served.
01:58:33Is she going to fucking eat us?
01:58:35My friends are my family.
01:58:37All right, it's time.
01:58:39It's on, ladies.
01:58:40Aren't you so lucky to still be alive?
01:58:43We all have our own journeys here.
01:58:44And, you see?
01:58:46They lied to you.
01:58:48Oh, God.
01:58:49Your best revenge is to leave this place and live your life.
01:58:53Do not fall here in the underworld.
01:58:55I promise.
01:58:56Oh, fuck!
01:58:57Sorry.
01:58:58You're good.
01:59:01Ah!
