00:00All right, okay. Today we are back with another Haikyuu reaction video.
00:06Jordan, we are on episode number nine of season two and something that you've been saying
00:15for quite some time is that I want to learn more about Suki. Yeah. And the past two episodes seem
00:22to have been all about the homie Suki. Yeah, I think we've both been saying that. From the start
00:28he seemed like a character that was easy to get annoyed at. Just the way that he was sort of
00:34maybe picking at Kageyama, picking at Hinata. Yeah. And he came off, at least to us, a little
00:41standoffish. But we learned a whole lot about our guy. Yeah. And his relationship with his brother.
00:48Yeah. And his relationship with Yamaguchi. And his relationship with the game of volleyball.
00:54Yeah. So I think he's cracking into our heart.
01:00Some could say. Yeah, it was intriguing, right? Learning his backstory. And I know our patrons
01:07educated us about his brother. Yeah. Right? When we first saw his brother in the stands,
01:12we thought he wasn't a part of the team at all. But many of you out there shared that he is in
01:19fact on the team. He's just, you know, there's just too many good players, right? He didn't get
01:25to make the bench. And I'd never really heard about that. Yeah. In other sports. Yeah. Like
01:32usually when you're on the team in like basketball, you're on the bench. And I know they only,
01:38they cap it at a certain number. But I mean, football they have reserves. Like practice
01:43players. Practice players. Basketball as well. They have the G League, right? At least for the
01:49NBA. I think it's called the G League. But yeah. All right. Yeah. One thing that I would love
01:57to see, and I don't know if we'll get to see it in this episode, is a flashback of young Suki
02:06maybe confronting his brother, right? About what he saw. Yeah. And you know,
02:12if that conversation takes place. Yeah. That would be interesting. Yeah. Maybe we'll see it. Yeah.
02:19All right, brother. You want to jump into some of these comments? Yes. From our wonderful patrons.
02:23Let's go. All right. So the first comment comes to us from our wonderful patron Chase Doyle.
02:30And Chase writes, hey guys, first time comment. I really love how you guys analyze this series as
02:36former athletes. Thank you very much, Chase. Thank you, Chase. I myself played D1 volleyball
02:42as a libero. And honestly, I couldn't be further from having a Nishinoya attitude.
02:50I related more with Suki. I was on a team surrounded with players way more talented
02:56than me. Yeah. Which would get me in my negative fields quite often. It was not until I found this
03:04series my junior year that I was able to think differently about the game. This season especially
03:10made me get out of my comfort zone and eventually into a mode of pure confidence on the court.
03:16Wow. Like other sports, it's so incredibly easy to be negative and hard on younger in volleyball.
03:23IQ teaches us that mistakes are essential to further growth in your field, whether it's sports
03:31or anything else. Really looking forward to you two finishing this season and seeing the epicness
03:37that the rest of the series has to offer. Keep up the good work, Chase. We love hearing from
03:45former volleyball players. Chase is a former D1. D1. Volleyball player. Yeah. Libero. Yeah. Wow.
03:55And very honest and vulnerable here. Yeah. Chase's being. Yeah. I love it. Yeah, man. Being on any
04:03team surrounded by players who are talented or more talented than you is tough. But pulling
04:11yourself out of that like we are starting to see Suki do. Yeah. Is a symbol of strength. Yeah. You
04:20know, it shows how strong of a person you are. What Chase said here really hit me. It was not
04:24until I found this series my junior year that I was able to think differently about the game. Yeah.
04:30So again, we're hearing this from our patrons, from former volleyball players, a former D1
04:37volleyball player. Yeah. That this series is that important. Right. And helpful that it can help
04:45pull you out of a certain mindset and get you to think differently and help you on the court and
04:52off. Yeah. And that's the power of anime. Right. These aren't just cartoons, as we've thought of
05:00in our past lives. Yeah. Right. These are real influential pieces of art that college students
05:10watch and have an impact on them. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you so much, Chase,
05:15for your beautiful comment. Yeah. Keep commenting in, Chase. Thank you so much.
05:19All right, brother. We have a few comments here from episode number eight. The next one comes from
05:23our patron, Fox. And Fox writes, Suki's bro is on the team, but the team was so large a bunch of
05:30them have to be in the stands and not on the court since he's not a starter or substitute. Got it. So
05:36that's what we were just talking about. Yeah. And Fox was one of the people who let us know that.
05:41All right. Thank you very much, Fox. The next comment comes to us from Jake Thompson,
05:47and Jake writes, the really sad part is that Suki's brother is actually a very good player,
05:52being the ace of a middle school team and shown when he's able to receive the ball straight into
05:58the basketball hoop. Yes. I mean, you can't just wake up and do that. Yeah, that was talent. Yeah.
06:03The Karasuno roster at that time was just so deep that even someone as skilled and passionate as
06:10him was relegated to not even suiting up during games, essentially relegated to practice squad.
06:17Suki's attitude of, if I don't really invest in it, I don't have to worry about being devastated
06:23if it doesn't work out is pretty common and a bit relatable. Yeah. 100%. If I tell myself I wasn't
06:31that serious about it in the first place, failure has a much smaller impact. Truer words have never
06:39been spoken. Spot on, Jake. Yeah. Spot on. Yeah. I think that right there, that sentence, if I tell
06:49myself I wasn't that serious about it in the first place, failure has a much smaller impact. Yeah.
06:55So many people experience that throughout their lives, right? They have dreams, aspirations,
07:01things they really want to do and love but sort of convince themselves that either they're not
07:08good at it or it's not worth it. Yeah. Right? And then later on, there's tremendous regret
07:15for handling it that way and not just going all in. It's so human though. Yeah.
07:23Every single last one of us can most likely pinpoint a time where we felt this way. Yeah.
07:29And we may feel this way in this exact moment. It's what makes us human and it sort of sounds
07:36like a coping mechanism. Yeah. It is easier to convince yourself that I'm not too serious about
07:44it. Who cares? Why do you try so hard? Yeah. Who cares? But like you said, Jared, if you do
07:51invest time and you put that work in and you truly come to believe that there's no other way,
08:00I'm doing this, it will come to fruition. That's the beautiful thing about anything that we do in
08:05this life. Yeah. At least that's how we look at it because we've witnessed and felt the impact of
08:12doing something over and over and over and over again and seeing the results. Yeah. So I hope
08:16Suki can stick with it. It was great seeing him walk back in that gym. Yes. Instead of walk out
08:24or quit. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you so much, Jake. All right. The next comment here comes from our
08:28wonderful patron, Ashley K. And Ashley K writes, I wouldn't say Suki was shocked that his brother's
08:34been lying. He was shocked that his brother who was once the ace in his middle school and thought
08:41of being in volleyball club as everything. And despite putting so much effort to be a very good
08:47player that he is, he still lost to his other team members that were even better by not making it as
08:55a regular player after entering Karasuno High. Therefore saying it's lame. Witnessing this
09:01changed Suki's passionate attitude towards the sport to it's just a club. Yeah. Oh, the impact
09:09our family, especially older siblings or parents can have on us. Crazy, right? And as an older
09:17brother or sister or sibling, you really have no idea the amount of influence and impact that you
09:24have on your younger siblings. Do you have any idea? Because you are the oldest sibling in this
09:29family. I'm starting to over the years, but like, especially our youngest siblings, right? Growing
09:37up, it's like all hell breaks loose in the house, right? And you just react to things, right? Our
09:47youngest brother may draw all over the wall. May? Or do some other stuff all over the wall.
09:56We won't talk about that, but. It rhymes with Suki.
10:00Right? And you just react. Yeah. But you realize one day that, oh, they looked up to you
10:09immensely and now you see yourself in them. Right? Yeah. That's the craziest feeling. Yeah.
10:17All right. Thank you very much, Ashley. The next comment comes to us from Zaria Parker and Zaria
10:22writes, so I actually had a similar situation once. Back in high school, I was on the track team,
10:28although I wasn't very good. We had a track meet once and didn't find out who was competing until
10:34we got there. My name wasn't on the list to compete that day, but my brothers showed up
10:40to watch. So I just told them my event got canceled because there weren't enough people for
10:47it. I was embarrassed, but I was also never that passionate about track. So I'm sure it was a
10:53different feeling from Suki's brother. That is a fantastic real life parallel. Yeah. Right there.
11:00Yeah. Zaria can relate. Yeah. We all go through these situations. Yeah. We all go through them.
11:06So thank you, Zaria, for sharing your personal experience. Jared, let's read one final comment.
11:12And this one comes from our patron Umi. And Umi writes, I think Suki's brother was actually on
11:18the team. He had the team's track suit and Suki said he believed he could do it by practicing hard.
11:23But that was the moment when Karasuno was a powerhouse. That means there were a lot of players.
11:29Only the best players were playing on the court. Some others were on the bench and the rest of the
11:33team had to be in the stands. So he was practicing with them in the team, but there were best wing
11:41spikers to choose for the matches, like the little giant. Imagine seeing your brother overshadow
11:47by the little giant and when you get to Karasuno, there is a player very similar on your team.
11:54That's rough. Right. So that's another factor that plays into this. It's almost exactly,
12:03I mean, well, not the same, but because Suki's brother didn't actually play.
12:10But Suki is now on the team and he's got someone just like the little giant
12:16on the team competing at the same position as him. And it made me think about, this whole idea made
12:24me think about what Coach Nakamada said in, I think it was the last episode. This is him. He said,
12:31the tension from acknowledging you are rivals with one another is indispensable to growth.
12:39Mm. However, if the team turns into a group with no laws, they'll lose it all. Right. Coach
12:47Nakamada, man, anytime he speaks, we listen. Yeah. Because he's got that wisdom and he analyzes
12:54Karasuno a lot. So when he says, acknowledging you are rivals with your teammates. Right. Healthy
13:01competition. Is indispensable to growth. Yeah. And then that last thing we got of Yachi saying,
13:08it's moon versus sun. That's what they need. Yeah. That's what they need. Yeah. If this
13:16situation is handled with care by the coaches, right. And the other players, you know, this
13:23could really allow both Suki, Hinata and the rest of the team to just blossom. Yeah. You know? Yeah.
13:30I can't wait. Me neither, brother. Thank you so much, Umi and everybody else who commented in.
13:36We know we don't have time to read everybody's comment, but we do read every single comment that
13:41isn't a spoiler that our moderator passes to us. So, brother, man, any final words before we jump
13:48in to episode nine of season two? Yeah. All right. Let's jump in, everybody. This is episode nine
13:56of season two of Haikyuu and it's titled Verse Umbrella or VS Umbrella. Let's check it out.
14:06Let's go.
14:17She's writing a letter to her mom.
14:21We haven't seen mama in a long time. Yeah.
14:25Sort of miss her. You miss mama? Just a little bit.
14:37She's telling all of that with her mom.
14:40Ain't no secrets.
14:45Very realistic. Yeah. What are you going to hold back?
14:51Someone's got to document it, right?
14:56Good service.
15:06Hmm.
15:23However. Ah, still developing chemistry.
15:36Oh, did that hit you? No, it hit the, it almost did. Holy, how they got to scare us like that.
15:44I thought that little mark on her face was a bruise. Yeah. The writer's playing games with
15:48that story. Come on now. Animators. Damn, Yachi is growing too, right? Just in her knowledge and yeah.
16:03Oh, all right. Let's jump right in.
16:07Okay.
16:30Oh.
16:30Oh.
16:35I believe that would be called a kill block. Could be wrong.
16:46Hmm. A deadpan look in his eyes.
16:54He said, I'm the only one who hasn't changed.
17:00Come on, come on, come on. Okay. Oh, we'll take it. We'll take it.
17:31All right. They can't get into it again. Yeah.
17:40Hmm.
17:59Rad. Come on, dude.
18:00Come on, dude.
18:10Yeah.
18:20Oh.
18:26Might not play as well because of that.
18:50Oh.
18:57Love this music in the back, man. Electric guitar. Absolutely. Listen.
19:06Oh.
19:22I think it captured the tension.
19:36I guess he's going to practice alone.
19:49It looks like it.
19:55I was going to say, isn't that Nekomura in the background?
20:00Just bounce from gym to gym.
20:07Oh.
20:14Oh.
20:20Ha ha ha ha.
20:36Lev 2? Hmm.
20:44Hmm.
21:02Right. They even have to play.
21:08Owls versus the cats.
21:14What'd he say?
21:16Isn't it just a bit unbalanced?
21:18In favor of?
21:20Maybe like height-wise?
21:26I mean.
21:28He's the only oddball out.
21:30I think his jumping abilities.
21:32Yeah.
21:34Make up for that.
21:36So, I mean, personally, I'm still learning.
21:38Names.
21:40Yeah.
21:43Kuro were the ones who really helped Suki out
21:45in the last episode.
21:47And Bokuto is the one in the blue.
21:49I believe so.
21:51With the cool looking hair.
21:53Was his name Kuro?
21:55Kuro, I believe.
21:57Kuro is the one in the black shirt, I believe.
21:59Yeah.
22:01And then we have Hinata, Lev, Suki.
22:03Who's the one in the dark blue?
22:05That's a good question.
22:07Yeah.
22:09It might take us a little longer to learn
22:11about the other teams.
22:35So are these the girls' players?
22:37I don't know.
22:41Boom.
22:47Can he say do?
22:59Oh.
23:01There it is.
23:03That's what he's been working on.
23:05I like this right here.
23:11Haha.
23:19Watch them go eat
23:21and then come right back.
23:35Okay.
23:37So Suki seems to be back.
23:39Suki is back.
23:41Back in action.
23:43Yeah.
23:47It's good to see him back.
23:51We didn't talk about the little moment
23:53in the last episode
23:55where Yamaguchi was the one calling him lame.
23:57Yeah.
23:59That's Suki's catchphrase.
24:01That's so lame.
24:03But by Yamaguchi calling him lame,
24:05I think that helped out too.
24:07Anything else you pick up from this first half
24:09before we continue?
24:11No, I just loved the intro
24:13of Yachi
24:15writing to her mother
24:17and sort of being the narrator for what's happening.
24:19Yeah.
24:21I wonder if she's actually writing a letter
24:23or texting.
24:25Or maybe an email.
24:27Good question.
24:29Yeah, Mama, come back.
24:31Well, I don't think Mama can come out to Tokyo.
24:33Mama's busy.
24:35Yeah.
24:37Alright, let's finish this out. Here we go.
24:53Yeah, I want to see the food.
24:55Okay, looks pretty healthy.
24:57Damn, Hinata.
25:01Damn!
25:13That guy scares me.
25:15Yeah.
25:19Alright.
25:21That guy scares me.
25:23Yeah.
25:25Alright.
25:27A little soft.
25:29Oh, out.
25:31That looked like it was out.
25:52They've changed a bit.
25:54Yeah.
26:21Yeah.
26:39Spy car.
26:41Imagine.
26:51Oh.
27:21Oh.
27:23Nekomata versus Karasuno.
27:47Seven? Did I say
27:49seven in the middle?
27:51Sets? Oh, wow.
27:53How long have they been
27:55doing this for, man?
28:01Lock it.
28:03Do a cross
28:05spike. Yeah.
28:07Tsuki done put in that work.
28:15Akashi. That's his name.
28:17Woo!
28:21Fat Albert.
28:23I'm going to go back real quick, just to catch
28:25his name in the bloopers.
28:29Akashi. Oh, got it.
28:43Rebound.
28:47Ah.
28:59You purposely hit the block
29:01with the ball. Yeah.
29:03Try one more time when it bounces back.
29:05That's smart. Yeah. Yeah.
29:17Hmm.
29:21Hmm.
29:23And this is valuable for
29:25a lot of times.
29:41Uh oh.
29:47Oh.
29:49Oh.
29:51That's worse than a wall, right?
29:53Yeah, you got three hands right there.
29:55Oh. Oh.
29:57He's going to get it. He's going to put it into the block.
29:59Bang, bang.
30:01And he touched it.
30:03The other team touched it.
30:05That umbrella imagery, dude.
30:09Oh.
30:17Wow.
30:33Yeah, that's impressive.
30:35Oh.
30:47A new special attack. Here we go.
30:49Getting all the
30:51inside information.
30:55Man, shout out to
30:57Yachi, too. She's putting in that work.
30:59Yeah.
31:05So he's envisioning Hinata
31:07instead of the bottle.
31:09Wow.
31:11Nice.
31:19One more.
31:23Oh, poor Yachi.
31:35Hmm.
31:59That's just
32:01Sugi's personality at this point, right?
32:03You gotta love him.
32:05Yamaguchi sleeps like all of us.
32:07Let me see. Some of us.
32:11Cuddling his pillow.
32:21And taken care of.
32:23What are we talking about here? That's Coach's hitman right there.
32:25Pizza?
32:27That's Coach's hitman.
32:29Wait, but
32:31really though, what was he talking about?
32:33He's either talking about pizza or
32:35something deeper.
32:49Wow.
32:51Karasuno. Three wins, door.
32:55Is that what it said? Yeah.
32:59Hmm.
33:13Yeah, they've been...
33:15That's gonna make them a powerhouse.
33:19Right? Look.
33:25Ah.
33:29Wow.
33:53Oh, he's gonna share what he heard.
33:59Right?
34:01Boom.
34:03I knew it.
34:05I knew it.
34:07So dramatic.
34:15Okay.
34:17Here we go.
34:21Wow.
34:29They ain't tired no more.
34:41Is this because of the barbecue?
34:49Maybe Daichi
34:51did that on purpose. Yeah.
34:59Oh.
35:09What was that moment about?
35:11I don't know.
35:30Hmm.
35:45Hmm.
35:59Yeah.
36:03They both believe and respect each other.
36:09Hmm.
36:15Hmm.
36:25Oh.
36:29Hmm.
36:31Hmm.
36:43Hmm.
36:49Hmm.
36:59Yeah.
37:01That's how you get better, man.
37:03100%.
37:05Asahi Nishinoya. Practice makes
37:07perfect. And trying new things,
37:09Jerry. Yeah.
37:11Daichi Suga, Tanaka,
37:13Suki Yamaguchi.
37:15They've been through so much. Right.
37:17In this training camp.
37:19Kageyama.
37:21And the one and only.
37:25Orange little
37:27Giant.
37:35Okay. Alright.
37:39That was a good episode. Yeah.
37:41You think they're more excited
37:43to face Fukuro Dani
37:45or Itsumi?
37:47I think they
37:49are inspired to
37:51win this match and then
37:53go enjoy their meat. Yeah.
37:55What were your thoughts watching this episode, brother?
37:57No, I mean,
37:59I like how it came together and
38:01truly appreciate
38:03Yachi for,
38:05as you mentioned, narrating things
38:07for us and truly getting to
38:09the heart of
38:11some of the issues that the team is dealing
38:13with, some of the struggles,
38:15but also some of the
38:17realities.
38:19When Yachi was telling us how
38:21Kageyama
38:23and Hinata's interaction was
38:25actually about
38:27how much they believe in
38:29and respect each other, but it sort of came out
38:31in the midst of their anger
38:33a different way.
38:35I truly appreciate
38:37how Yachi is able
38:39to break that down for us. Yeah.
38:41Because it helps. Yeah. What did you think, man?
38:43Yeah, there was one particular moment
38:45that I really loved. It was
38:47slight, but it was when Kenma
38:49and his crew were walking
38:51maybe to the cafeteria, maybe to somewhere
38:53else, but Kenma said,
38:55but seriously, I wonder how long they're going to
38:57go on as he looked over at the
38:59lights on the gym.
39:01Right? And I
39:03was just imagining
39:05us as kids
39:07and especially
39:09between the competition
39:11between us two, but also us
39:13looking at the way other
39:15competitors practiced.
39:17We made sure we were the last
39:19ones to leave that gym. Every single night.
39:21Right? Especially
39:23if it's somebody who you're going to face
39:25in the future. Oh, yeah.
39:27Oh, you're going to still stay and work?
39:29I don't think so. I'm leaving after you.
39:31Oh, yeah.
39:33So I thought that was realistic.
39:35Right? And then
39:37the not a wall, but umbrella.
39:39Oh, yeah.
39:41Incredible visual and analogy
39:43there. And then
39:45just overall, they're playing
39:47against their competitors
39:49in real game time
39:51situations, like the
39:53perfect opportunity to try
39:55new things, practice,
39:57foul.
39:59They had three wins and like 60
40:01losses, Jordan. That allowed
40:03them to get better at their
40:05diving receives or whatever it's called.
40:07Yeah, this is
40:09a great opportunity for
40:11Karasuno. Yeah, man.
40:13It's a great opportunity for Karasuno
40:15and for all the other
40:17teams. I wrote down another quote
40:19from last episode.
40:21And it's something else
40:23that Coach Nick Amata was saying.
40:25And he said something
40:27like, it's not
40:29verbatim, but he said,
40:31crows eat whatever
40:33they can by using
40:35the strengths of those
40:37around them. And then he talked about how
40:39Karasuno is in a period of
40:41rapid growth
40:43or evolution, I believe
40:45it said in the sub.
40:47So that's what we saw, man.
40:49And
40:51I said I appreciated Yachi.
40:53I also appreciate, like you said,
40:55the other members and captains
40:57from the other teams
40:59who lowered their
41:01ego and
41:03gave some information, some
41:05valuable advice
41:07to players like Suki, to players like
41:09Hinata, that they can take back
41:11and maybe use to defeat
41:13them. But nonetheless, when Suki
41:15questioned, I believe he was questioning
41:17Bokuto?
41:19Or Kuro, one of them.
41:21About like, why are you doing this?
41:23Where are your opponents?
41:25And he said,
41:27listen, I want the garbage
41:29dump match to come to life.
41:31So once we get there,
41:33I feel like we're slowly working our way
41:35to this big match
41:37where it's going to be
41:39one of the best games.
41:41One of the best matches that we see in this entire series.
41:43Yeah, it's such a mature thing
41:45to do, right?
41:47And a thing that only a real
41:49competitor
41:51would do is to
41:53teach and make better
41:55your competition.
41:57That's right. Because that's only going to make
41:59you better. It's a never ending
42:01cycle.
42:03That's right. Yeah, great episode.
42:05Fantastic episode.
42:07Alright, we're going to keep pushing everybody.
42:09Thank you so much for watching yet another
42:11episode of Haikyuu with the both
42:13of us. We appreciate you.
42:15Please, please keep writing in.
42:17We know many of you have
42:19experience playing volleyball
42:21and after
42:23some of these recent episodes,
42:25people have been breaking down
42:27technicalities for us.
42:29In this episode, we learned about the term
42:31rebound. We know
42:33what rebounding is in basketball,
42:35rebounding in volleyball
42:37is a bit different. Not too complicated,
42:39but if you all could continue
42:41to break down the technical
42:43terms for us as
42:45newbies to this volleyball
42:47world, that would help. So we'll see you soon.
42:49Thank you so much for watching. We love you.
42:51Do not forget. Be kind
42:53and keep an open mind, everybody. Peace.
