00:00The Lazio region adopts new prescriptive guidelines for glycemic monitoring, becoming one of the
00:09first regions in Italy to reimburse the devices that replace the finger pointing for people
00:15with diabetes.
00:16This important development in the regional health offer is the result of the collaboration
00:21between the Italian Society of Diabetology, the Association of Diabetologists and Feder
00:26Diabete Lazio.
00:27The new regulation provides for the reimbursement of devices for glucose self-monitoring for
00:33people with type 2 diabetes, treated with insulin and for patients at high risk of
00:38cardiovascular disease.
00:39We have a new way to be able to use these devices for glucose monitoring in low-tech
00:50It gives us the possibility to monitor the patient's glycemic profile in a sort of
00:57daily procedure for the whole day and not in an instant way and in a weekly and weekly
01:04model, depending on the type of sensor.
01:06Diabetes is a complex pathology, as explained by Marzia Menzucchi.
01:10Diabetes is a complex pathology, as explained by Marzia Menzucchi.
01:15Diabetes is a complex pathology, as explained by Marzia Menzucchi, director of the pharmacy
01:21area and devices of the Lazio region.
01:23However, lately we have a whole series of technologies that can help us and the region
01:28is strongly committed to make them available in the best possible way.
01:31The sensor, of course, for the release of the glycemia that the region is intended to
01:36guarantee to a wider number of people, helps the patient to understand how the glycemia
01:41changes over time, also in relation to what he eats, so what are the eating habits
01:47that he must have, in addition to the fact, of course, to be able to ward off inadvertent
01:52hypoglycemia.
01:53In this sense, however, it is also appropriate to underline the availability of new drugs,
01:58which are the ingredients, the glyphosate, which mark a turning point in the treatment
02:02of diabetes, because they have cardio- and nephroprotective effects.
02:05In short, the wide range of access to innovative technologies, the benefits of the new monitoring
02:10that monitors the glycemic control and reduces the risk of complications, are evident.
02:15It is essential, with this determination, to have now the possibility to avoid glycemic
02:21excursions.
02:22In this way, we will have the possibility to monitor the glycemia during the day, I repeat,
02:29especially the glycemic excursions, which are those that can determine both hypoglycemia
02:35and hypoglycemia, which as hyperglycemia, the vasal damage, which are at the base of
02:40cardiovascular diseases, which are the complications that unfortunately are very frequent in people
02:45with diabetes.
02:46The collaboration between scientific societies and patients in the region has led to a significant
02:51improvement in the quality of life for diabetic patients.
02:55The document establishes the reimbursement criteria and the maximum levels of devices
03:00designed to optimize the use of resources for cost-benefit purposes.
