00:04in Liverpool.

00:05Today I am taking a stroll around Allerton Towers which is a beautiful 35 acre park situated

00:11in South Liverpool.

00:12The site used to be home to shipping owners and merchants of Liverpool during the heyday

00:18of Port Commerce.

00:19Originally part of the Manor of Allerton, the estate was purchased by Hardman Earl.

00:25This part of Allerton Towers absolutely transports you.

00:27I feel like you could easily be in Italy or Spain, it's so picturesque.

00:35The mansion house was based on a design by Harvey Lonsdale-Owens, architect of St George's

00:40Hall.

00:41A classic Italianate design which had a tower providing views across the surrounding countryside.

00:47The estate was acquired by Liverpool Council in 1924 and the landscaped gardens were opened

00:53to the public as Allerton Tower Park in 1927.

00:56However due to severe damage, the tower itself had become seriously affected by dry rot.

01:01It was demolished in 1937.

01:04Although there's no cafe or loos here, just a short walk away is Allerton Manor which

01:08has a plethora of food and drink outlets, Fletcher's Sports Bar and Beer Garden that

01:14is located in the once dilapidated Manor House and the Old Stables Restaurant as well as

01:19a function suite.

01:20You're also not so far from Walton Village which has loads going on.

01:24There's also a small play area situated near the Menlove Avenue entrance, suitable for

01:29young children.

01:30It's just behind me there.

01:31I have barely seen a soul since I've been walking around here for the past hour and

01:37you can easily get around here in an hour by the way, making it perfect for a quick

01:42morning stroll or if you've just got an hour for your lunch break but what is great that

01:48nature is absolutely thriving here, maybe because of the lack of people around but I've

01:53seen squirrels and lots of birds.

01:56It's so calming and peaceful here.
