00:00When the plane fair is down, what are the updates from the passengers of the airplanes?
00:05Let's find out together with Atty. Clarabel Anne Laksina,
00:09Administrative Division Officer-in-Charge of the Civil Aeronautics Board.
00:13Atty. Laksina, good afternoon and welcome to the new Philippines today.
00:20Good afternoon, Ms. Nina Corpuz and Director-General.
00:24Good afternoon also to those who are listening to the program.
00:26The good news is that the Civil Aeronautics Board announced that the airfare will be down in July.
00:35Can you explain the reason behind this?
00:40Yes, ma'am. We announced that in July, our fuel surcharges will be down to level 5.
00:49This fuel surcharge is based on the movement of jet fuel prices in the market.
00:55Based on our evaluation, the price of jet fuel is decreasing in the global market.
01:03That is why we are lowering our fuel surcharge for the next month.
01:10Ma'am, we know that the fuel surcharge in the base fare is being separated.
01:15When will the last implementation of lowering the fuel surcharge be?
01:20Do you expect the lowering of the fuel surcharge here to continue?
01:25Yes, ma'am. In the past four months, since March, we are at level 6.
01:33From July 1 to July 31, it will be lowered to level 5.
01:38After that, we will announce in the middle of July what will be the fuel surcharge in the month of August.
01:48This is also based on our evaluation that the price of jet fuel will be increasing in the month of July.
01:54We will know the next fuel surcharge level.
02:01Ma'am, can you give us a sample computation of the total fare of a domestic and an international flight?
02:10How much will our countrymen save when they travel in the month of July?
02:17As of now, we can feel a decrease in the fuel surcharge in the month of July.
02:23From P185 to P665 for domestic flights, it will range from P151 to P542.
02:33For example, those who will fly, those who plan to fly to Manila, to Boracay,
02:40the fuel surcharge will be lowered by P54 and it will be P238.
02:46For international flights, it will range from P498 to P3703.
03:01Currently, it is at P610 to P4,500.
03:06For those who will fly to Taiwan or Hong Kong, from P610 to P4,000, the fuel surcharge will be reduced by P112 to P498 for the month of July.
03:23Attorney, what are the possible reasons for the increase in the fare in the next few months,
03:31especially the fuel surcharge that is being reduced for passengers?
03:36The two factors that are the basis of the fuel surcharge are the movement of the price of jet fuel and our dollar.
03:47So, the exchange of P2 and jet fuel.
03:52If we continue to see the price of jet fuel decrease, we will feel the decrease in the price of jet fuel.
03:57Okay. If we look at it, the decrease in the price of airfare is only for the month of July.
04:04This is what we're saying. What if I bought a ticket in July but my travel is still in December or other months?
04:12Yes.
04:15Yes. The month that we bought the ticket, the fuel surcharge will be applied for July, which is level 5.
04:27So, you can buy it in advance. Is that a good advice now for our vacation planners that it's a good time to buy this July,
04:37let's say for any travel in November or other months?
04:42Yes, ma'am. What we're advising is that while the price is still low, we can buy the ticket in advance.
04:49It's better to take advantage of this because the movement of the fuel prices,
04:55we can see that the movement is not predictable. Sometimes it's high and sometimes it's low.
05:02So, while it's still low, they can buy the ticket now.
05:08Okay. In other talks, we asked for an update on the volume of airline passengers this year.
05:15Did it increase compared to the first six months of last year?
05:19Yes. But what we're looking at now, the first quarter of the year, we can see that the air travel demand really boosted.
05:29Our domestic and international passengers increased this year compared to last year.
05:36So from... the total domestic passengers now is around 7.4 million.
05:44The international is around 6.9 million compared to 2023, the first quarter.
06:00So, hopefully, we can see a continuous increase in the number of passengers,
06:05especially that our fuel surcharge decreased compared to the last statement of the lower fares.
06:12How is your response to the complaints of passengers from airline companies?
06:18Do you have any other programs that you will focus on this year that you want to share with us?
06:26Right now, we are open 24x7, our passenger assistance.
06:31Our passengers can call us at any time if they need anything regarding their travel.
06:40We also have passenger rights officers in the airport who can approach our passengers if they have problems regarding their flights.
06:51Right now, we are intensifying our programs, especially in passenger protection and enforcement.
07:00Ma'am please send a message to our countrymen from the Civil Aeronautics Board.
07:08Yes. If you need assistance from CAB, just call or email our hotline.
07:20Our hotline is 24x7-8876-1970.
07:27Okay.
07:28Thank you very much.
07:29Okay.
07:32All right. Is it okay, ma'am?
07:34Yes, ma'am. Thank you very much.
07:36All right. Thank you very much for your time,
07:39Attorney Clarabelle Ann Laksina, Administrative Division Officer-in-Charge of the Civil Aeronautics Board.
