Novo Nordisk to Invest $4.1 Billion in New North Carolina Plant for Wegovy and Ozempic Production

Novo Nordisk announced plans to invest $4.1 billion in building a new manufacturing plant in Clayton, North Carolina, to boost the production of its blockbuster drugs Wegovy and Ozempic. The facility will focus on filling and packaging syringes and injection pens for Wegovy, Ozempic and other injectable therapies. Construction has begun and is expected to be completed by 2029, eventually employing around 1,000 workers. Demand for Wegovy and Ozempic has significantly outstripped supply over the last year, causing intermittent shortages in the US market. Novo Nordisk is investing over $6 billion in production capabilities in 2024, up from $4 billion last year, to address the supply issues.
