00:00Well, back to one of our top stories, the French elections here, the snap poll taking
00:05place on June 30th, an anti-far-right rally taking place today in downtown Paris.
00:11Our reporter, Vidika Vahal, is on the site ahead of that rally and we can speak to her
00:15now.
00:16Hello to you, Vidika.
00:18Among those protesting, there will be many, many women.
00:22What are their concerns?
00:25Well, Will, today is very much about unity amongst French women, a week before the first
00:32round of the legislative elections in France.
00:35Last weekend, nationwide, tens of thousands of French people, men and women, demonstrated
00:41against the far-right and today we're expecting very much the same women to show up for the
00:47same cause.
00:48The rally today is organized by a multitude of feminist organizations and women's groups
00:54and they've called it raising the alarm against the dangers that a far-right government could
00:59bring to their rights, about the dangers they feel could come with a far-right government
01:04in power and what potential that has to affect the lives of their mothers, their sisters,
01:10their daughters.
01:11So, they are turning out today very much to defend their rights as women, as gender minorities
01:17but also fight against sexism, sexual violence and stand up for gender equality.
01:22They're also very worried about funds being cut from public services like family planning
01:28services that defend women's rights to their own body as well as potential concerns about
01:33changes in women's rights in the workplace and in employment.
01:39So that is why they'll be turning out today at Place de la République here in Paris, Will,
01:45to fight against what they say is the threat against that.
01:48All right, Vidika, thank you very much.
