Dan Kilpatrick and Malik Ouzia reflect on England v Denmark
Transcript
00:00Good morning from Frankfurt. It's the morning after the night before. Malik and I are outside
00:04the station about to head back to Erfurt which is near England's training base and we're
00:08reflecting on that hugely disappointing and concerning, frankly, England display in the
00:141-1 draw with Denmark last night. Malik, lots for Gareth Southgate to be considering this
00:18morning. Yeah, I mean this time yesterday we were, what, a mile up the road there in
00:22the square, in the sunshine, there were England fans everywhere and activism seemed kind of
00:26high but this morning it feels all pretty bleak, doesn't it? As you say, not just a
00:31flat performance of the kind that we've seen in previous tournaments from England where
00:35maybe just on the night it felt like they had an off night. Yesterday, all those kind
00:39of little concerns, tactical things, technical things, individual players that you had concerns
00:43about from the first game were just kind of reinforced and when you look at the performances
00:47we've seen from some of the sides, Spain last night, Germany earlier in the tournament,
00:52it feels like England have got a long, long way to go to get to the level they need to
00:56to compete with those teams. Yeah, that's right and more slight concern for Gareth Southgate
01:01this morning, still no Luke Shaw out in the grass in open training, he was one of the
01:05players who missed out, just ten players trained, all those who featured last night also working
01:10indoors so no imminent return of England's only recognised left back on the cards. Next up,
01:16of course, it's Slovenia in Cologne on Tuesday. England can top the group but I think more
01:21important than that really is that they put in a much better performance, restore some
01:25positivity and optimism going into the knockouts where they are almost certainly already, by
01:32the way they've got one foot in the last 16 even if it's not officially confirmed. You
01:36can catch all the reaction to last night's game in today's Evening Standard and on our website.
