Dan Kilpatrick and Malik Ouzia on England win over Serbia
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon from a motorway service station here in rural Germany. Dan and I are just
00:05on our way back from Gelsenkirchen, where of course England played last night, back
00:09across the country to Erfurt, which is where we're based, not far from England's training
00:13base. England due to train at any minute now really, it'll just be a light recovery session
00:17I suppose today and then all attentions will turn to Denmark on Thursday. Dan, the morning
00:23after the game last night, what are your sort of overarching thoughts? Was it a positive
00:27night for England?
00:28I think it has to be a positive night overall for England. They got three points, they got
00:31the win, they got the job done and they're in a very strong position already to reach
00:35the knockout. So I think that has to be the bottom line. You know, you look at their opening
00:39games under Gareth Southgate, the last two tournaments, they thrashed around 6-2 in Qatar
00:4418 months ago, they beat Croatia 1-0 in a very kind of cagey, unmemorable game in the
00:50Euros three years ago and I think both those games are going to be equally forgettable
00:54now. It doesn't really matter how England start the tournament, it's how they finish
00:57the tournament, it's how they grow into the tournament, it's time to chuck it down with
01:01rain here. So I don't think this game will be the defining game in any sense of England's
01:08Euro 2024, it's how they go from here and I think they're in a pretty decent position
01:14to build. That said, there are obviously lots of issues for Gareth Southgate.
01:19There are and as it's chucking it down here, rather than tell you about them now, I'm going
01:22to suggest you go over to Stand the Sport and read Dan's piece from this morning, grab
01:27today's paper on the way home and you'll find everything in there and we'll get back on
01:31the road and in the dry car.
