00:00I'm really relieved that we've come to a conclusion and we can now move on from what's been going on.
00:08I think it's a very sad indictment actually that we've been engaged in a process like this at all.
00:15But I'm glad it's all over.
00:17The Chair was quite critical about the processes for the vetting.
00:21What do you think about that?
00:23I think he was quite right to be and I'm really quite alarmed by it myself.
00:27It'll be one of the first things I raise with our new Home Secretary after the election
00:33because I think obviously we need to improve our processes and definitely need to improve vetting.
00:39How did he slip through the net?
00:42I'm not sure that he did.
00:44I think there was anyway a conception of what a Chief Constable would look like.
00:51I think he met the bill.
00:54For me, a Chief Constable would look slightly different or a lot different.
00:59I would be looking for somebody with competence and integrity first and foremost.
01:05So I think we need to have a competency framework to measure candidates by.
01:10How can the public be sure that this isn't going to happen again?
01:16Well it won't happen again on my watch, I can assure everybody of that
01:20because I shall go through all the paperwork myself and not leave it to anybody else.
01:25But I am very interested in how we can improve the relationship between the police and the people
01:31and I think we need to do that by bringing back neighbourhood policing
01:35and making sure that communities know who their local sergeant, officer, PCSOs are.
01:42What's your message to the people of Northamptonshire,
01:45the people of residence who rely on your police force?
01:49Well what I'd like them to understand is that Nick Adderley is now out.
01:53We have a new leadership team in at the police who are really great.
01:59Everything I've seen from that leadership team and all the police force
02:03is about people wanting to do their very best for the community,
02:07people who understand community and people who know that they are public servants
02:11and are there to do their best.
02:13So I'm very encouraged that we're entering a new era and it's going to be much better.
02:18So you're going to go over people's CVs and make sure that they're correct?
02:22I'm not sure we've got the time or the resource to do that
02:26except for where it becomes apparent that there's something going wrong
02:30and in that case I certainly will do.
02:32What I want to do is make sure that our processes going forward are the correct ones.
