Chinese Midnight Express is a 1997 Hong Kong crime drama film directed by Billy Tang Hin-shing (鄧衍成). Set in the 1960s, the film stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai (梁朝偉) as a righteous journalists who gets framed and jailed after exposing the collusion between the corrupt police force and triads.

The setting is in the 1960s, Hong Kong, a righteous reporter Ching On (Tony) publishes an article exposing corruption in the police force. Unfortunately, he's framed for drug distribution and confesses to the charges when the corrupt cops, led by Detective Sergeant Joe Cheung Yiu-jo (吳毅將 Ben Ng Ngai-jeung) threaten his family. Forced to undergo the rigorous hazing rites of all new inmates, On struggles to regain hope and rise above his situation. Meanwhile, On's loyal girlfriend, Jess (張文慈 Pinky Cheung Man-chi) is terrorized by the cops who put him away, and On faces new challenges, and even finds new allies, while stuck in prison.
