00:00The United States court organizing the Sydgo auction has already received formal bids for
00:13the Venezuelan oil refinery.
00:18In Palestine, the Israeli occupation forces committed three new massacres in the Gaza
00:22Strip, killing at least 24 people.
00:27And in South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in as president after being re-elected by
00:32the country's parliament.
00:37Hello and welcome.
00:38From the south, I'm Alejandra GarcÃa from Telesur studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:42We begin with the news.
00:43As denounced by the president of the Venezuelan General Assembly, Jorge RodrÃguez, the United
00:47States court organizing the Sydgo auction has already received formal bids.
00:52In this sense, the Vitol Business Group, the largest independent oil operator in the
00:57world, confirmed that it is on the list of companies that submitted bids for the Venezuelan
01:01refinery Sydgo Petroleum Corporation, illegally handed over to the United States by the fugitive
01:07Juan Guaidó, and a long list of accomplices that includes Leopoldo López, MarÃa Corina
01:12Machado and Ignacio Hernández, the alleged prosecutor who facilitated the looting.
01:17It should be noted that the Vitol Group has been linked to corruption scandals in Mexico
01:21and Ecuador.
01:27Venezuela denounces the robbery of Sydgo, the Venezuelan state-owned refinery petroleum
01:31corporation veneered in the United States.
01:34The U.S. interest and those of Venezuelan opposition leaders are behind it.
01:38From Caracas, our correspondent Leonel Retamal provides us for the details.
01:46Venezuela's National Assembly discussed the recent ruling of the U.S. court to advance
01:50the auction of the Sydgo oil refinery following a long-court dispute of the creditors.
01:55The President of the Parliament attributed the current context to an electoral strategy
02:00of the far-right wing.
02:01They didn't tell their U.S. pals they were against the delivery of Sydgo.
02:08They told them to do it secretly as it could hurt them electorally.
02:13And that is why the Delaware court has already made the auction in a secret way and there
02:17are already secret bids stored in envelopes in the Delaware court, which is nothing more
02:24than taking over Sydgo and turning it apart and delivering it to both the U.S. government
02:30and all these entrepreneurs who have lobbied the U.S. government.
02:37Former President of Colombia Ernesto Samper warned of the international danger implied
02:41by this decision and the use of sanctions as a cohesive mechanism, the same criterion
02:46as China, which spoke out against the unilateral U.S. sanctions during the day.
02:52The United States is opening up with the process against the Venezuelan-owned Sydgo oil company,
02:58a dangerous form of international expropriation.
03:02This financial blow does little or nothing to halt the current electoral process taking
03:07place in the neighboring country.
03:09Forcing elections to be held amid sanctions is a subtle but effective way to meddle in
03:14the right of citizens to vote freely without having such a shotgun to the back of their
03:19heads.
03:20Sydgo is a subsidiary of the state oil company PDVSA.
03:26It's the seventh largest in the United States and has refineries and gas stations.
03:31In addition to being a good business for the Venezuelan state, it has played a key role
03:36in assisting social cases with its profits.
03:40We have to continue denouncing that such plunder is aimed at disturbing the economic
03:45life of Venezuela.
03:46It is a company that, let's say, served us, it refined almost 900,000 barrels of Venezuelan
03:55oil per day.
03:56There are political responsibilities behind the judicial actions since the crisis worsened
04:03during the time former lawmaker Juan Guaidó acted as a leech to interim president of Venezuela,
04:08who was recognized as such by the U.S., an imposition that has enabled legitimate authorities
04:14to exercise defective defense.
04:17President Maduro has asked for criminal accountabilities for this damage.
04:21Sydgo, a company belonging to all Venezuelans, is currently managed by a sector of the unitary
04:28platform, which comes to participate in elections, while it manages to oversee access of all
04:35Venezuelans.
04:36We are witnessing the misuse of the United States recognition to perpetrate a robbery
04:40to all Venezuelans.
04:42They allowed the robbery of Sydgo's shares, so a sector of the Venezuelan opposition
04:47administered them, but they will be chased by the justice system in Venezuela and in
04:52the United States.
04:54The Venezuelan people must realize that those who are responsible for such plunder are the
04:59opposition led today by MarÃa Corina Machado, with all that team and with all the resources
05:04that the United States is providing her to build a campaign in the country.
05:09And that's why we share the opinion of President Nicolás Maduro that they must be criminally
05:14charged for treason against the homeland.
05:18This information surfaces 40 days before the presidential elections and amid the debate
05:23on the competing government programs.
05:29Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Gil rejected the statements made by the U.S. Undersecretary
05:33of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Brian Nichols.
05:37Nichols referred to the situation in the country as worrisome for the period leading up to
05:41the July 28th elections.
05:43On social media X, Ivan Gil said the following.
05:46Mr. Nichols returns with his vulgar obsession to offend Venezuelans, middling in matters
05:51that do not correspond to him.
05:53It seems that the defeat that his puppets have written on their foreheads causes him
05:58more anguish than ever.
05:59Their attempts to interfere in our process will be as effective as the policies of your
06:04government, which are a complete failure.
06:07Our recommendation is that you write a post to be published when you have to confront
06:11the defeat of the far-right that you promote.
06:22Mexico's President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, met with deputies and senators-elect with
06:26a view to implementing a social reform.
06:29In the private meeting, the lawmakers drew up a constitutional reform roadmap, with a
06:34special emphasis on the judicial branch.
06:37According to the President-elect, the reforms will follow a consultation process that will
06:41begin on June 26th, so as to allow the bill to be ready for approval in August.
06:47The bill is expected to be submitted to the lower house of Congress in September and later
06:51on to Senate.
06:53The President-elect urged the deputies and senators who will take office in the new legislation
06:58in September to be responsible and keep close to the people's needs.
07:07On Tuesday, the President of Cuba, Miguel DÃaz-Canel, inaugurated the International
07:11Exhibition of Cuba Industria 2024.
07:14The opening of the event's fourth edition took place at the Pavespo Fairgrounds in Havana.
07:19As part of its program, the exhibition will host the International Convention at a fair
07:24that is expected to be attended by at least 1,200 participants, including 108 foreigners
07:31from 22 countries.
07:32Cuba Industria 2024 will last until Friday, June 21st, and among its main goals are achieving
07:38greater integration and international insertion of the country in the industrial field and
07:43strengthening alliances.
07:49To expand the use of available industrial capacities, to be able to find strategic alliances,
07:54commercial and productive, with the objective of increasing industrial production to meet
07:59the demand of the economy and the demand for exports.
08:03In Peru, on Tuesday, the Congress approved a bill that seeks impunity for people sentenced
08:08for crimes against humanity.
08:09According to the Center for Justice and International Law, nearly 600 investigations will be achieved
08:16and 500 people will not be repaired if the project becomes law.
08:20It would allow people that were investigated, prosecuted and convicted of crimes against
08:24humanity to be released without warranty, injustice or compliance with the sentences
08:29imposed.
08:30The Peruvian Public Ministry and various social and political organizations rejected the measures
08:35containing the bill that could derive in the exception of responsibility for the military,
08:40civilians and police who committed crimes before and during Fujimori's term.
08:49On Wednesday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, in the framework
08:54of his annual report, emphasized that the policies of the current Argentinean government
08:58threaten to undermine the protection of human rights in the South American nation.
09:04Recent, proposed and adopted measures risk undermining human rights protection.
09:11These include cuts to public spending, particularly affecting the most marginalized, the announced
09:17closure of state institutions dedicated to women's rights and access to justice, and
09:22an instruction from the Minister of Foreign Affairs to suspend participation in all events
09:27abroad related to the 2030 Agenda.
09:31I urge the authorities to place human rights at the center of their policymaking, to build
09:36a more cohesive and inclusive society.
09:40This also means full respect for the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
09:45The government of Argentina reiterated on Tuesday, before the United Nations, its historical
09:50sovereign claim of the Malvinas, South Georgias, South Sandwich and the surrounding maritime
09:55areas.
09:56In a session of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, the Minister
10:00of Foreign Affairs, Diana Mondino, left no room for doubt about the official position
10:05of the Argentine state regarding the enclaves currently administered by the United Kingdom.
10:10In this sense, Mondino declared that it has been 191 years since the beginning of the
10:15illegal occupation by the islands by the United Kingdom.
10:19She also argumented that the time has in no way diminished the validity of their claim
10:24nor modified their conviction that this prolonged dispute should be resolved peacefully through
10:29bilateral negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

11:09On Wednesday in Palestine, the Israeli occupation forces committed three new massacres in the
11:14Gaza Strip, killing at least 24 people.
11:17Gazan health authorities denounced that in addition to the death, 71 civilians were wounded,
11:22with two more being killed by Zionist forces fired in the center of the Strip and two due
11:26to Israeli bombardments in Nusayrat.
11:29The Tel Aviv regime occupation forces also killed several civilians and wounded dozens
11:33of refugees in the al-Mawassi camp northeast of Rafah.
11:37Since the October 7 onslaught, the number of martyred by Israeli attacks has reached
11:4137,396, while the number of wounded amounts to 85,500, mostly women and children.
11:50In this context, the rescue of victims trapped under the rubble continues amid targeting
11:54of civil protection teams and ambulances.
11:58After a residential unit for the Abu Safiya family was targeted, we recovered bodies of
12:07some martyrs and wounded and we took them to al-Mahmoudani medical complex.
12:11Most of them were in remains and some women were burned as a result of the Israeli bombing
12:15on the apartment.
12:17I was asleep and arrived here after hearing the strike and found out that the house of
12:21the Abu Safiya family caught fire and was destroyed.
12:24There were approximately 40 people in the house.
12:27In Switzerland, the Human Rights Council of the United Nations is discussing the Gaza
12:31conflict investigation elaborated by its experts.
12:34In this context, they are debating six operations linked to the Israeli occupation army, which
12:39the International Independent Commission of Inquiry denounces as a systematic violation
12:43of the laws of war.
12:45Precisely, according to the United Nations investigation, Israeli bombs up to 920 kilograms
12:50were used against residential buildings, a school, refugee camps and a market.
12:56For her part, Commission's Chair Nevi Pillay, who served as the United Nations High Commissioner
13:01for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014, stated that Israel's actions are an intentioned and
13:07direct attack against the civilian population of Gaza.
13:15In relation to Israel's military operations and attacks in Gaza from 7th October, we conclude
13:23that Israeli authorities are responsible for war crimes, crimes against humanity and violations
13:29of international humanitarian and human rights law, including extermination, intentionally
13:38directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects, murder or willful killing, using
13:47starvation as a method of war, forcible transfer, gender persecution targeting Palestinian men
13:55and boys, sexual and gender-based violence amounting to torture and cruel or inhuman
14:02treatment.
14:03In Tehran, authorities reported a 5.0 magnitude earthquake in the town of Kashmar, some 800
14:20kilometers east of the capital Tehran.
14:22As a result of the geological event, four people died and 120 others were injured.
14:27Red Crescent officials said rescue teams were deployed to the region and three temporary
14:32camps were set up.
14:33The earthquake originated approximately 5 kilometers from Moghan in the Razavi Khorasan
14:39province, with Iranian media reporting it occurring at a depth of 6 kilometers.
14:44Iran lies on major seismic faults and experiences one earthquake a day on average, one of the
14:51deadliest to date occurring in 2003, when a magnitude 6.6 seism flattened the historic
14:58city of Bam, killing 26,000 people.
15:03In Bangladesh, authorities reported a landslide caused by heavy rains left at least nine dead
15:10in the southeast of the country.
15:12Authorities implemented measures for the care of the affected people, especially Yuhika,
15:17a refugee located in Cox's Bazaar.
15:19At the same time, they ordered the preventive evacuation of the Rohingya's population
15:24due to the risk of landslides.
15:26The Commissioner for Refugees and Returnees, Mohammad Samsudzuda, confirmed that refugee
15:31camps numbered 9 and 10 were affected.
15:34Close to 1.2 million Rohingyas arrived in the country, most of them fleeing the heavy
15:39military crackdown in 2017 by the Myanmar army.

16:13Welcome back to From the South.
16:15On Wednesday in South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in as president after being re-elected
16:20by the country's parliament.
16:21According to the Minister of the Presidency, Koumbou Dsouza Chadeni, the nation's constitution
16:26stipulates that the president must be sworn in within five days of his election by the
16:31legislature.
16:32In this sense, on June 15th, Ramaphosa received 283 votes from the newly elected parliamentarians
16:39of the general elections held on May 29th.
16:41In turn, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters Party, Julius Malema, received only
16:4644 votes from the legislators.
16:49The inauguration ceremony brought together South Africans of all backgrounds, lifestyles
16:53and political orientations, united to celebrate Ramaphosa's new term.
17:08In this moment, we must choose to move forward.
17:13To close the distances between South Africans and to build a more equal society.
17:20To translate the promise of our constitution and the vision of the Freedom Charter into
17:26a reality for all.
17:29This moment requires extraordinary courage and leadership.
17:35It requires a common mission to safeguard national unity, peace, stability, inclusive
17:44economic growth, non-racialism and non-sexism.
17:52Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim confirmed that the official process
17:57of his country's accession to the BRICS Group will begin shortly.
18:01The Malaysian government is basing its decision on the fact that the Strait of Malacca is
18:05an important transport route connecting the south of the eastern Pacific Ocean with the
18:10Bay of Bengal, where India, Bangladesh and Thailand, among others, have their shores.
18:15The BRICS bloc originated with the formation of the countries that define its acronym,
18:20Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
18:23However, as of January 1st, 2024, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and the
18:30United Arab Emirates are part of the bloc.
18:32Like Malaysia, Thailand has also expressed its intention to join the organisation.
18:40The United Nations has raised all alarms regarding the situation in Sudan,
18:44assuring that civilians are currently in the line of fire and with no safe places.
18:49The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs,
18:53Matt Tapovey, ratifies that an immediate ceasefire is imperative to avoid new atrocities.
18:59The United Nations held responsible both the Army and the Rapid Support Forces
19:03for the numerous war crimes and for instigating the ethnic tension.
19:07On the other hand, humanitarian organisations regarded what is happening in Sudan as an ethnic
19:13cleansing and an atrocious war that shows no limits.
19:21In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, sexual violence against women and girls
19:25is on the rise in the midst of the escalating armed conflict.
19:28In a report in the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence
19:33in Conflict, the United Nations Children's Fund unveiled that only in the North Kivu Province,
19:39more than 38,000 cases of sexual violence were denounced in the first quarter of 2023,
19:45a 37% increase compared to the same period in 2022.
19:49UNICEF also warned of an alarming 50% global increase of these crimes in context of conflict.
19:55In this context, it is important to consider that only a small number of victims report
19:59these types of attacks for fear or repressal, stigma and potential impunity for the perpetrators.
20:23On Wednesday in Germany, the EuroCup 2024 kicks off in the second round of the competitions group
20:28stage. The host team's match against Hungary is one of the three matches that will be played
20:33at the beginning of the second qualifying round. After one week of tournaments, the German team
20:39leads its group, followed by Switzerland with one victory, while the rest of the groups are led by
20:44the teams of Spain, England, the Netherlands, Romania and Turkey. During this stage, the first
20:49two teams from each group will qualify for the next round, together with the four best third-placed
20:55teams. After each team has played at least one match, there are many elements to be taken into
21:07account that begin to point towards contenders for the trophy. In this way, we note that 37 goals have
21:13been scored in 13 matches, an average of 2.85 goals per match. Thus, the nation with the most goals is
21:20Germany with 5, while the players with the most assistances are Denis Man of Romania and Nathan
21:25Ake of the Netherlands with 2 units. On the other side, the best goalkeepers are Dominic
21:30Livakovic of Croatia and Inzik Stanek of Czechia, who shares 7 saves. Otherwise, the defeat of
21:39Croatia and Belgium are the biggest disappointments of this young tournament, as Croatia is winless
21:44after two matches.
