00:00Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
00:01Thank you.
00:02Senator Cruz.
00:04Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
00:06Ambassador Jacobson, you previously served in Tajikistan.
00:11Yes, sir.
00:13What period of time?
00:14I was there from 2006 to 2009.
00:18I'm sure you've seen the news that broke this week about eight Tajiks who came to this country
00:23illegally over the southern border or apprehended by the Biden administration.
00:28Yes, sir.
00:29Who were, quote, vetted and then were released.
00:32And they've been arrested this week because of their affiliations with ISIS-K and over
00:37concerns that they were plotting a major terror attack in the United States.
00:42In your experience, how dangerous is ISIS-K?
00:50ISIS-K remains a threat both in the region to which I've been nominated and into the
00:54world and also to our homeland.
00:56And I, if confirmed, would sort of welcome the opportunity to further discuss how we
01:03can combat this sort of terrorist threat.
01:06I'm a little bit out of the loop on Tajikistan in particular, having left there 15 years
01:10ago.
01:11But, of course, I still do follow it.
01:13How concerned should Americans be that this administration released eight illegal aliens
01:18who are Tajiks with connections to ISIS-K?
01:23I am not privy to the intelligence or the law enforcement activity or really any of
01:29that.
01:30I have mostly read about this in the news.
01:32But I certainly think it's incumbent on all of us, all the agencies of the U.S. government,
01:36to protect our homeland.
01:38And ISIS-
01:39This is the same terrorist group that murdered 145 people in Moscow at the Opera House, came
01:44in with automatic weapons and mowed down civilians.
01:47Is that right?
01:49It's my understanding that, yes, there were Tajiks involved in that operation in Moscow.
01:54Well, I will say, I can tell you, Texans are deeply concerned that the administration keeps
01:57releasing illegal immigrants with ties to terrorists.
02:00And we are living on borrowed time.
02:02I believe there is a higher likelihood today of a major terrorist attack in the United
02:09States than there has been any time since September 11th.
02:12And this administration's open border with 11 million illegal immigrants coming across
02:18it is an invitation for terrorists, for Hamas, for Hezbollah, for Palestinian Islamic Jihad
02:24and for ISIS-K to come and murder Americans.
02:27And it is utterly indefensible.
02:29And yet today, the Biden administration is releasing yet more illegal immigrants into
02:35this country.
02:36They do it day after day after day.
02:39And we are going to see.
