00:00I heard that you were hesitant to take on this role at first so what made you
00:04want to say yes at the end of the day?
00:06Well it was just that I feel like I've you know between Marty Baron and
00:11Spotlight and Ray Donovan I felt like I'd done enough kicking of the Catholic
00:16Church but I went to a mass in my little town in Montauk and I was very moved by
00:23it and I spoke to Scott Ellis about it and he said you know it's it's 20 years
00:29later this play means something different and when I read it again
00:33thinking about that you know what if he didn't do it what if this play is really
00:38speaking to the situation we've got ourselves into with cancel culture and
00:43polarization and how
00:47pulled apart as a society in a culture we feel right now and approaching the
00:53play with Scott and Amy and Quincy and Zoe with that idea in mind was just
01:00super exciting and I know working so closely with Amy what was it like
01:04collaborating with her on this especially because she had to take on
01:07the role at the last minute it was terrifying she had her script laid out
01:13on the desk and monitors up in the balcony that she was looking at and
01:18every once in a while I would look up at the monitors and it would have the exact
01:22opposite effect on me I would go completely blank and I'd forget my lines
01:26but she has such tenacity and commitment as an actress and I was so impressed
01:34with how bold the boldness of her choices and where it let us take the
01:39play and finally what's a show on or off Broadway outside of your own right now
01:44that's your favorite of the season I had a lot of fun at Patriots you know as
01:50someone who cares deeply about Ukraine I was very grateful to hear such a simple
01:58and clear telling of the Berezovsky story and of Putin's rise to power I
02:04think it's really important that people understand that thank you so much for
02:07stopping by have fun tonight
