00:03 Investment Trade and Industry Minister,
00:05 Tengku Zafarul Aziz, has defended the government's decision
00:08 to allow BlackRock's wholly owned subsidiary, Global Infrastructure
00:12 Partners, to own shares in Malaysia Airport's Ho Nings Berhad.
00:17 GIP and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority
00:20 will own 30% of the equity, while Kazana National Berhad and EPF
00:25 will own the remaining 70%.
00:27 The news was not received well, as critics
00:30 accused BlackRock of profiteering from genocide
00:33 through its stakes in US defense companies, which allegedly
00:37 manufacture weapons used by Israel.
00:40 However, Tengku Zafarul today stressed
00:42 that BlackRock is a listed company that
00:45 is not owned by Israelis.
00:47 He pointed out that sovereign wealth funds from Abu Dhabi,
00:50 Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar also have stakes
00:54 in BlackRock's shareholding.
00:56 He also highlighted that BlackRock
00:58 is one of the largest shareholders of Apple,
01:01 WhatsApp, and Facebook.
01:03 He said it is important for the government
01:05 to explain the merits of the deal, which
01:07 he thought they had done.
