Guiguinto, Bulacan — Pride couple Ram Lopez and Cray Velasco share their insights into how they started and grew their coffee shop, the Coffee Code. Their story might sound so familiar. . . But imagine learning a lot — from brewing coffee to serving the right menu — for just 500 pesos?! Admit it. You kinda want to ask them where to get that resource. (We surely do.)

The pandemic has seen a rise in the coffee business. And clearly, the booming coffee scene in the country continues to thrive. If you've been paying attention, you know mobile coffee shops keep popping up all over the country. And this is not the first time you see a small coffee shop hot brewing and cold brewing your favorite cup of joe either. Amiright?

So, did it ever intrigue you if it's really easy to start a coffee business?

Well, you know what they say. Starting a business requires knowledge and skill set. Failure to do so will invite chaotic scenarios. So to avoid the that biz situation, you have to show up prepared.

00:00 Hi OGs! I'm Kray! I'm Ram!
00:02 And welcome to our Coffee Shop Coffee Code!
00:06 I personally, I'm aging now.
00:15 I'm getting old.
00:16 Are we forever employees?
00:17 I said, "Why not run a milk tea shop?"
00:20 I thought, you don't see people drinking milk tea everyday.
00:24 But you do see people every day.
00:27 Twice a day, twice a day, they're drinking coffee.
00:31 I want something different.
00:35 I want the Coffee Code.
00:36 The first thing I think of is, "I want to sell coffee."
00:38 "Let's do the Coffee Code."
00:39 Because you have a code, which is your Coffee Code.
00:42 It's a support for me.
00:44 Because for the two of us, I'm more of the doer.
00:47 I'm the one who makes the coffee I want to put in.
00:50 What flavors I want.
00:52 We're half-half in what we do.
00:54 She's the expert.
00:56 I'm the one who's in the interior design.
00:59 At first, we said,
01:06 "Does it look like a cart attached to a motorcycle?"
01:08 "I don't want the motorcycle to have a hole."
01:10 So she said, "Let's just put it in a row."
01:13 She came up with the idea of coffee bags.
01:15 You just open it here.
01:18 There.
01:19 You just lower this.
01:23 And this one too.
01:26 And then, you just attach this.
01:28 You just hook it.
01:30 So that...
01:31 There.
01:34 Also, you lower this one too.
01:37 So there.
01:40 This is where we set up all of our needs.
01:44 All our coffees are made manually.
01:50 Even the whole group.
01:51 We noticed that while we're making hot coffee,
01:53 we do it for over-style.
01:55 So people say, "Wow, it's cute. It's great."
01:58 Although it takes a long time to make,
02:00 it's worth it because the coffee is extracted.
02:03 Our initial investment
02:10 is the time I decided to take a digital course.
02:14 I read everything about coffee,
02:16 which cost me 500 pesos.
02:18 I learned a lot from that.
02:20 I shared it with our employees.
02:22 After that investment,
02:23 that's where the other expenses came in
02:25 to start making coffees.
02:27 From 6 to 7, when we first started,
02:30 we came up to buying coffee beans,
02:33 syrups,
02:34 and the box.
02:35 We just added a menu.
02:37 Everything on the menu,
02:39 before I launched it,
02:41 I studied it first.
02:42 The menu design I made
02:45 was the most difficult.
02:47 But the concept, the title,
02:50 and all the flavors
02:52 came from the 500 pesos.
02:54 Everyone on the menu will taste it first.
02:56 If they say, "This is good,"
02:58 we'll launch it.
02:59 Today, I'm going to show you
03:02 how we create our best-seller
03:04 cold brew caramel macchiato.
03:05 First,
03:06 drizzle some pork.
03:08 This is our special caramel sauce.
03:15 This is what we call milk mixtures.
03:18 Then some milk syrup.
03:24 Pour some ice.
03:27 Then your mixture, of course.
03:33 This is my biggest cold brew.
03:40 We brew it for more than 24 hours.
03:42 The best time to brew it is up to 2 weeks.
03:45 Some froth on top.
03:47 Of course, to make it look better.
03:50 So that's how we make
03:57 our cold brew caramel macchiato.
03:59 On the first day
04:05 when we started our business,
04:07 we were able to recover our capital.
04:09 We just added another capital.
04:12 [music]
04:16 We started in February.
04:19 In our branch,
04:20 we're the ones who supervise and manage.
04:23 We are earning 160 to 170 pesos
04:27 monthly, depending on the season.
04:29 In our branch,
04:31 we're receiving royalties monthly.
04:34 It ranges from 10 to 15 pesos.
04:36 In our bookings,
04:37 of course,
04:38 it depends on the packs.
04:39 But the lowest is 10,000.
04:41 Most of them will tell you,
04:47 "Why do you have to go all out?
04:49 You'll just get tired."
04:51 "Come and make 3-in-1."
04:53 People will say that.
04:54 But at the end of the day,
04:56 you're the one who will tell yourself,
04:57 "No, let's try."
04:58 Because the worst thing
05:00 you can do
05:02 is not trying.
05:03 Business, honestly,
05:06 is not that easy.
05:07 You have to invest your knowledge.
05:09 You can't start a business
05:12 without knowing your business.
05:14 There will be days when there's no sales.
05:17 You can't be weak inside
05:18 as a business owner.
05:20 Especially if you have employees.
05:22 Your employees will get stronger from you.
05:24 "Boss, we're getting close.
05:25 We don't have much sales."
05:26 You can't say,
05:27 "What happened?"
05:28 It's not like Christmas every day.
05:29 But after the rain,
05:30 there are rainbows.
05:32 Sometimes, you'll fight
05:33 because you have different ideas.
05:35 But once you sit down,
05:37 relax,
05:38 have coffee,
05:39 you'll really relax.
05:40 Talk to them.
05:41 You'll have brainstorming.
05:43 With P90,000 to P120,000,
05:48 you can start a franchise.
05:50 All of that
05:51 when you start a franchise together.
05:53 Everything you can see
05:54 in our coffee store,
05:55 coffee beans,
05:56 flavorings,
05:57 syrup, sauces,
05:58 and everything together.
05:59 Including food and training.
06:03 The main branch is located
06:05 here in Gigintobo, Lacaan.
06:06 It's along the highway.
06:08 If you want to drop by,
06:10 and you're riding a bike,
06:11 we have parking slots
06:13 for bikes.
06:14 So it's safe.
06:15 About bookings,
06:16 you can message us
