Rep. Acidre comes to the defense of Speaker Romualdez vs. criticism on canceled rally in Tacloban
Transcript
00:00A lawmaker came to the defense of the House Speaker, whom some camps are accusing of having a hand on why a scheduled rally in Tacloban City was cancelled.
00:09Mela Lesmora tells us more.
00:14The camp of House Speaker Martin Romualdez firmly asserted having no involvement in the cancellation of the Maisug Peace Rally in Tacloban City over the weekend.
00:24The activity was supposed to be led by former President Rodrigo Duterte. That's why his supporters were dismayed when it was scrapped.
00:32According to House Deputy Majority Leader and TINGOG Partylist Representative Jude Acidre, it was the local government who's in charge of the matter,
00:40and from the information they gathered, there were valid reasons why the event was ultimately cancelled, contrary to the accusations.
00:54We have nothing to do with it. The Speaker has nothing to do with it. I have nothing to do with it. TINGOG Partylist has nothing to do with it.
01:01It is in the purview of the local government unit to issue permits. They are the ones who have control of our Freedom Park.
01:10In fact, the provincial government of Leyte manages RTR Plaza. As far as I know, that is the venue they are targeting.
01:20In several social media posts, various allegations were raised on what really happened. However, Acidre clarified these are all lies.
01:29Based on the information we received, they did not apply for a permit.
01:34They notified the provincial government that they will use Freedom Park. Unfortunately, before they submitted a letter of information,
01:48a notification to the provincial government, something was submitted, something was booked as early as May 10, as far as I know.
01:57Something was applied to the roadshow of heavy equipment. That's why it was suspended. It's unfair.
02:06According to the social media, it was posted there, but the truth is that this is part of a roadshow of heavy equipment.
02:14At the airport, we have been assessing the price of tickets and the lack of tickets for several weeks.
02:22However, they said that this needs to be done so that we can continue to improve our travel to Tacloban.
02:30As of now, despite the issues Acidre assured, the House of Representatives will continue to serve and deliver on its mission and work for the benefit of each and every Filipino.
02:40Melales Moras from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
