00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're taking a look at 10 times Dragon Ball showed up in
00:11 other games.
00:20 Before we begin we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:24 Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:29 Fortnite
00:35 This was perhaps the biggest crossover to happen in Fortnite.
00:38 The second Goku and company were announced, a ton of us started to flood the servers.
00:44 From the Nimbus Cloud Glider to the ability to actually obliterate enemies with a Kamehameha,
00:50 this event was oozing in Dragon Ball fandom.
00:54 Fortnite even got an in-game movie theater to play marathons of Dragon Ball Z, so you
00:59 could just chill and watch an episode or two or get eliminated while watching.
01:05 As for the cosmetics, various skins and gear continue to pop into the store from time to
01:09 time.
01:10 You want to play as Goku, Trunks, Cell, Frieza?
01:14 Grab 'em while you can.
01:20 It's Over 9000 memes
01:26 We can all quote the scene verbatim now.
01:29 Vegeta's "It's over 9000" line has been referenced across video games so many
01:34 times that we could have made a top 100 out of this one meme alone.
01:39 While some games will have a character say it, other titles will dedicate entire trophies
01:44 and achievements to it.
01:45 Occasionally, some games will mess with the number being said, but we all get the reference.
01:50 The frequency of the line just shows how impossible it is to imagine anyone working in games who
01:56 has never seen or heard of Dragon Ball.
02:04 Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations
02:11 Just as recognizable as the "It's over 9000" line is the object destroyed in that
02:17 scene, the Scouter.
02:18 The Scouter has become such an influential piece of tech in fiction that it's been
02:23 heavily borrowed in other games.
02:25 Sonic Adventure 2, Star Fox, and even some of the WWE games have featured the headwear,
02:32 but Ace Attorney straight up has a character wearing one for an entire case.
02:37 Glenn Elg is the victim of Trials and Tribulations' third case, and he, along with other Blue
02:43 Screens Inc. employees, are wearing Scouters.
02:46 Oddly enough, no Dragon Ball quote is referenced, but instead, they quote the movie 300.
02:53 Odd.
02:54 Fable 2
03:00 Now this one might have been too obscure for the casual fans to have noticed.
03:04 In the sixth Dragon Ball movie, three aliens invade Earth to plant a parasitic plant known
03:10 as the Tree of Might.
03:13 This tree was designed to deplete a planet of its life, turning it into a sandy wasteland.
03:19 But perhaps someone from centuries earlier already tried this plan?
03:23 In Fable 2, there is one house you can find called the House of Might, and inside it is
03:29 a very large collection of plants.
03:32 The previous owner was even a strong person who could withstand most punches, almost like
03:37 the strength of a Saiyan.
03:39 He died from poison though, so he wasn't that strong.
03:48 Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars
03:55 Chinatown Wars comes in with a double whammy for Dragon Ball fans.
03:59 One mission in the game is titled "Dragon Hall Z", and if you thought it was already
04:04 on the nose, just wait until the end of the mission.
04:08 You are tasked with picking up a dragon costume and doing a dance while wearing it.
04:13 And yes, the dragon costume is remarkably similar to the look of the great eternal dragon,
04:20 Shenron.
04:21 All we're missing here is a spirit bomb or maybe seven Dragon Balls circling around
04:25 you.
04:27 Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age
04:37 Given that Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, had a hand in Dragon Quest across
04:42 the series, there's bound to be a few references to his magnum opus manga.
04:48 Sure enough, eagle-eyed fans saw a big, big reference in the opening to Dragon Quest XI.
04:54 When the Luminary is sent floating down the river, he is discovered the following day
04:59 by an old man named Chalky.
05:01 The way Chalky discovers the Luminary and the way he holds him up in the sky are both
05:06 the exact same way Goku is discovered by Grandpa Gohan.
05:11 Goku is found abandoned as a baby, Grandpa Gohan finds him, and then hoists him up like
05:16 Simba at Pride Rock.
05:19 Metroid
05:25 The original Metroid game has a pretty crazy password system.
05:29 Some are purely numeric, while others are more on the profane side.
05:34 But one password you can type in is straight up Dragon Ball Z.
05:39 Really, just type that in twice, once in all caps and again in regular casing.
05:44 What this password does is it starts you in Norfair, suitless, but it also equips you
05:50 with the Screw Attack, Ice Beam, Morph Ball with Bombs, Long Beam, High Jump Boots, 5
05:56 Energy Tanks, and an arsenal of 172 missiles.
05:59 Yes, it is an oddly specific password for oddly specific things.
06:10 Persona 5
06:20 Persona 5, and pretty much most of the franchise, has made references to a wealth of games,
06:25 movies, TV, and anime.
06:27 But for Dragon Ball, there's a reference made on three separate occasions in Persona
06:32 5.
06:33 One art question asks what object King Kamehameha, the founder of Hawaii, is holding in his hand.
06:40 And one answer you can choose is a Dragon Ball.
06:43 It's clearly wrong, but go ahead and choose it if you want to just do it for giggles.
06:49 Then there's the first time Joker uses the treadmill, where he immediately wipes out
06:54 and ends up in a pose similar to Yamcha when he dies for the billionth time.
07:00 But the most noticeable reference happens when Yusuke messes with Futaba's action
07:04 figures.
07:05 After messing them up, Yusuke tries to fix them, but only winds up putting them all in
07:10 the same poses as the legendary Ginyu Force.
07:21 Kamehameha References
07:28 Speaking of King Kamehameha, this move is the most legendary attack ever seen in fiction.
07:34 It's probably also the most referenced.
07:37 Just about every video game in existence has referenced, borrowed, reused, or just straight
07:42 up stolen the Kamehameha in one form or another.
07:46 If you ever see a character take a firm stance and pretend like they're harnessing a ball
07:50 of energy by their hip, you know exactly where this move came from.
07:56 Doesn't matter if it's in Overwatch, Street Fighter, Super Smash Bros., we all know where
08:02 these games are pulling the idea from, and it all leads back to Dragon Ball.
08:11 Sonic the Hedgehog Series
08:21 Of any video game, to lift ideas from Dragon Ball, none have gone to Toriyama's work
08:28 as repeatedly as Sega has.
08:31 And it's no secret either.
08:33 Most would immediately point to Super Sonic's appearance, and you're not wrong in doing
08:37 so, but the rabbit hole goes a bit deeper than that.
08:41 Sonic, Shadow, and Silver hold a lot of traits similar to Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks respectively.
08:48 Heck, even some of their hairstyles and aesthetics are just like their Dragon Ball counterparts.
08:54 And this all goes without mentioning how the boss fight against Giganto ends in Sonic Frontiers.
09:00 It's the fight against Piccolo all over again.
09:03 Sonic is straight up copying Dragon Ball at this point.
09:06 You can't argue against it.
09:12 But what's your favorite Dragon Ball reference in a video game?
09:21 Let us know down in the comments, and be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays for more great
09:25 videos every day.
09:27 By the way, did you know that Sean Schemmel, the voice of Goku, is also the voice of Lucario
09:34 in the Pokemon anime and Super Smash Bros. games?
09:38 Crazy right?
09:38 (upbeat music)
