00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're looking at the best games that appeal to fans of Assassin's
00:13Creed while still standing on their own two feet.
00:28Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:33the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:37Ghost of Tsushima
00:38We're starting with the most obvious Assassin's Creed-like of all, Sucker Punch's Ghost
00:52of Tsushima.
00:53You'll enjoy any of the studio's other games too, like the Infamous trilogy, but
00:57Ghost of Tsushima has the stealth gameplay and historical setting many Assassin's Creed
01:02fans love.
01:03It also appeals by not being bogged down with the baggage of nearly 20 years worth of Isu
01:09lore.
01:10Even if you play Ghost of Tsushima for dozens of hours and pop that platinum, you're never
01:15going to encounter a giant golden hologram who will monologue the plot to you at length.
01:20It's also a title that puts Ubisoft to shame in a lot of ways, with people wondering how
01:25the company will ever be able to compete with it.
01:32Sea of Thieves
01:40This one's a little different, because it really only appeals to fans of a small number
01:45of AC games.
01:47Those are, of course, the ones set in the Americas.
01:51If you love the open world sailing of Black Flag and Rogue, you have a good chance of
01:56thoroughly enjoying Sea of Thieves too.
01:58Sea of Thieves also has the benefit of being co-op, so you can play with a group of friends.
02:04There is, of course, no co-op multiplayer in Black Flag or Rogue.
02:09Ubisoft would take over 10 years to release its multiplayer version of Black Flag, but
02:14Skull & Bones still can't hold a candle to its main competitor from Rare.
02:18Plus, with Sea of Thieves recently landing on PS5 to critical acclaim, there's never
02:23been a better time to set sail.
02:31Mirror's Edge
02:39Maybe you don't play Assassin's Creed for the history or for the open world.
02:43Maybe you like the platforming and the movement mechanics.
02:46Which were quite complex and often difficult in the older games.
02:51If you want a parkour system with an even higher skill level, you should definitely
02:55play the 7th gen classic, Mirror's Edge.
02:58The first person platforming does take some getting used to, but once you master Mirror's
03:03Edge's controls, it's immensely fun.
03:06Even years on, and Mirror's Edge has a huge community of expert speedrunners still unlocking
03:11new tricks in its parkour mechanics.
03:14Few games are as rewarding to master as this one.
03:26God of War
03:33Ten years ago, recommending God of War to an Assassin's Creed fan would have been bizarre
03:38to say the least.
03:40But years later, and AC has sunk its teeth deep into mythology.
03:45When Odyssey went to Ancient Greece and pit players against gods and monsters, the comparisons
03:50to the older God of War games were inevitable.
03:53And then, Valhalla did Norse Mythology two years after God of War 2018.
03:58If you wish Valhalla had even more Norse Mythology, and maybe you don't want to pay for its DLC
04:04to see Ragnarok play out, and you somehow haven't played God of War, you should fix
04:09that immediately.
04:11God of War also has far better boss fights, and its take on mythology isn't preoccupied
04:16with otherworldly technology and deadly solar flares.
04:25Far Cry Series
04:36If people didn't like Ubisoft's specific brand of open world games, they'd stop buying
04:41them, and Ubisoft would stop making them.
04:44If you're one of those players who enjoys the way Ubisoft builds its open world and
04:48packs them full of side content and base takeover missions, then you should play Far Cry and
04:53enjoy a more modern take on fighting against an oppressive regime.
04:57Far Cry also has something else that appeals to Assassin's Creed fans, very well realized
05:02settings that perfectly capture the atmosphere of the real world locations they base them
05:07on.
05:08Far Cry's hunting and crafting mechanics also make more sense than when the same mechanics
05:12appear in Assassin's Creed.
05:19The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
05:27Similar to God of War, Assassin's Creed didn't used to be anything like CDPR's massive RPGs,
05:33but The Witcher 3 changed everything so Ubisoft took inspiration for Odyssey and Valhalla.
05:40Ubisoft wanted to build big open worlds full of deep, engaging side content, and went as
05:45far as saying that in Valhalla, all the side content feels meaningful, just like in The
05:50Witcher.
05:51This turned out to really not be the case, since you may feel like going from The Witcher
05:563 to Odyssey or Valhalla is something of a downgrade, but still, with the next Witcher
06:01game seemingly years away, you can have a lot of fun with Cassandra and Eivor in the
06:06meantime.
06:07They even stole CDPR's entire dialogue tree design.
06:23Mafia 2
06:32On the surface, Mafia and Assassin's Creed weren't that similar, until Mafia 3 decided
06:38to copy Ubisoft's beloved territory takeover mechanics.
06:42But Mafia 2 may appeal to the same people who love the older games.
06:46Though it is an open world, Mafia 2 has a linear story with minimal side content, and
06:52every single story mission is a standout.
06:55Just like every AC game up to and including Syndicate, the story never has a dull moment.
07:01For another historical action game with a GTA-style sandbox, you could also check out
07:05The Saboteur, but unlike Mafia 2, The Saboteur isn't available on modern consoles.
07:11But you still can't go wrong with Vito and Joe.
07:21Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain
07:30There's another key gameplay element in Assassin's Creed that we haven't touched on so far, stealth.
07:36The older games focus on stealth heavily, despite also having fun, and often, relatively
07:42easy combat systems.
07:44But if you love stealth, you need to play Metal Gear.
07:48Any Metal Gear Solid game is a great choice, but we're choosing Hideo Kojima's unfinished
07:53masterpiece to recommend.
07:55As well as much better stealth, Metal Gear may appeal to those players who want a long
08:00series with deep lore to dig into.
08:03Not to mention that it also has a historical setting, taking us to Cold War Afghanistan
08:08in the 1980s.
08:18Uncharted
08:26Both Uncharted and Assassin's Creed began in 2007, but Ubisoft didn't have Naughty Dog's
08:31talent for action sequences and massive set pieces.
08:34Arguably, it still doesn't, but it's certainly tried, with bombastic sequences like Ezio's
08:40parachute carriage chase in Revelations and the Lisbon earthquake in Rogue.
08:45If you like learning about history, traveling the world, and unearthing ancient, semi-supernatural
08:50artifacts, Uncharted will scratch that same itch.
08:54And with a Thief's End, Naughty Dog also implemented more stealth mechanics, though this is likely
08:59due to the success of stealth in The Last of Us rather than because of Ubisoft.
09:07Watch Dogs 2
09:18Ever since the first game, people have been asking, will Ubisoft ever do an Assassin's
09:23Creed game set in the modern day?
09:24We got a small taste of it through Desmond's short missions in Assassin's Creed 3, but
09:29generally, Ubisoft has left the modern day alone.
09:32Perhaps that's because of Watch Dogs, which essentially is a modern day Assassin's Creed,
09:38with the hackers relying on stealth and gadgets to free the world from Bloom's control.
09:43After getting off to a poor start with the first game in 2014, Watch Dogs 2 perfected
09:49the hacktivist formula, with a cast of likable characters, a fun setting, and an engaging
09:55story.
09:56And via easter eggs, Ubisoft has hinted that Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed take place
10:00in the same universe.
10:07Let us know what your favorite non-AC, AC game is in the comments.
