00:00 This is Samitiwet Sinakerin Hospital where upstairs in the wards there are nine Australians,
00:07 three of them receiving critical care. Now I spoke to one man from Adelaide, he didn't
00:13 want to do an interview but he was on that flight from London to Singapore with his wife.
00:19 He said at the time when the plane suffered a violent plunge, his wife was standing up
00:25 in the aisle. He said it was too awful to describe what happened. He said he doesn't
00:30 know how long she's going to be receiving care in this hospital, it could be weeks.
00:34 Now there are nine Australians who are in non-intensive care wards. They're among more
00:40 than 50 passengers from that flight still receiving hospital treatment. But some are
00:45 luckier than others. We've spoken to a British man who was being discharged. He said he didn't
00:51 remember much about the severe turbulence because he suffered a severe concussion.
00:58 I'm lucky a lot of people have got some spinal issues from hitting their head and then kind
01:04 of connecting back down. So they've had quite a few scans, I've heard a lot of people can
01:08 barely move their back. I'm very fortunate to be able to walk and come out here only
01:14 really 24 hours later.
01:16 He said he'll kick on with a plan to go on holiday in Bali. A Spanish couple I met here
01:23 who were also caught up in this, they are going to continue with a planned honeymoon
01:27 to New Zealand. But there are obviously dozens of passengers whose plans have been completely
01:32 thrown out as they continue to receive hospital care. The Department of Foreign Affairs does
01:38 have people on the ground here helping the Australians. One thing patients have been
01:44 saying to us, at the very least, the quality of medical care that they're getting at this
01:49 hospital they say is very good.
