00:00 Analysts have dismissed claims that DAP retained Chinese support in Kuala Kubu Baharu
00:06 through fear-mongering, insisting that Perikatan Nasional's own questionable actions
00:11 caused them crucial non-Malay votes.
00:13 Sunway University's Wong Chin Huat said PN showed a tendency to self-demonise
00:19 as exemplified by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadli Shahri's failed attack on DAP's Pang Sok Thao
00:25 prior to the by-election.
00:27 Wong said PAS scored an own goal for PN by attacking Pang's educational background,
00:33 which he said is as detrimental as a non-Malay seeking Malay support while attacking Islam.
00:39 He, however, acknowledged that DAP's shortcomings had dampened enthusiasm among Chinese voters,
00:45 which was reflected in the lower voter turnout of 61.5 percent
00:49 compared to the 69.25 percent recorded in the state polls last August.
00:54 Meanwhile, O E Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Chinese voters
01:00 fear PAS' theocratisation agenda and are spooked by what they see in PN-led states.
01:06 O said PAS' persistent focus on hudud law, as well as fines imposed for certain modes of dressing
01:12 in Kelantan, contributed to the community's fear of PN, leading them to maintain their support for DAP.
