00:00The Penang High Court has rejected an application by Lim Guaneng, his wife Betty Chu, and businesswoman
00:07Pang Lee Koon to dismiss corruption charges related to an RM11.6 million dormitory project.
00:15Judicial Commissioner Rofia Muhammad said the court rejected the defence's claim of
00:19double jeopardy, despite their contention that the evidence relied on by the prosecution
00:24had been adduced in a previous case.
00:27In delivering her ruling, Rofia said the trial must continue due to significant differences
00:32in the alleged offences, which also involved different people.
00:36The defence had applied to dismiss the case, citing the use of evidence from a previous
00:41case in 2018 in which the former Penang Chief Minister was acquitted.
00:45However, Rofia said Lim's acquittal in the case was due to the prosecution withdrawing
00:50the charges, not based on judicial determination.
00:54Lim is charged with providing gratification to ensure that a company linked to Pang secured
00:59a dormitory project between 2013 and 2016.
01:02Chu, on the other hand, is accused of laundering the proceeds in three installments.
