Plans for a massive new solar farm on Anglesey have been put forward, which would make it by far the biggest anywhere in the uk. The proposed maen hir site would produce enough electricity to power 130 thousand homes and would be over 5 times bigger than the current largest site currently active in Britain in Shotwick, also in north wales.

00:12Light Source BP are developing plans for Mineheath Solar Farm, which could power over 130,000
00:17homes and take up more than 3,000 acres of space.
00:23The company in charge say the development would feature as part of the local council's
00:26green energy plans as well as help with the Welsh Government's Net Zero plans by 2050.
00:33The plans have already proved controversial with residents as it would need to stretch
00:36over three separate plots of land and will need UK Government consent given the sheer
00:41scale of the operation.
00:43There have been a number of solar farms already built on Anglesey, with many raising concerns
00:47with the loss of good agricultural land.
00:51No time frame has of yet been set but an environmental impact assessment is currently underway.
