00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're taking a look at our 20 video game remakes and remasters
00:14 that we're excited to play in the foreseeable future.
00:24 Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:28 Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33 Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
00:41 The Paper Mario series has seen a rather tumultuous lifespan.
00:45 Things just haven't been the same since the Dolphin days.
00:48 Looks like Nintendo is feeling the nostalgia a bit too, or they just know that this is
00:52 an easy way to rake in some dough.
00:54 Under this remake of The Thousand Year Door, Paper Mario is finally going back to its more
00:58 traditional RPG roots.
01:00 No rings to shift around, no paint to tediously fill in, no stickers to spam, just good old
01:06 fashioned turn-based combat with timed inputs.
01:16 And considering 2024 is the 20th anniversary of the game, Nintendo could not have chosen
01:21 a better time to revisit and reintroduce one of the best GameCube games ever made.
01:26 Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door will open the book once again on May 23rd, 2024.
01:36 System Shock
01:44 We are very well aware that System Shock did already get a remake last year, but it was
01:48 only released on PC.
01:50 The reason we're including the remake on this list is because it will be coming to
01:54 consoles on May 21st, 2024, and this is a really big deal, honestly.
02:00 Neither the first nor second System Shock were ever released on a console.
02:08 Never.
02:12 While just about any PC on the market can run those games just fine, some folks prefer
02:16 to keep their gaming to consoles only.
02:19 That said, there are plenty of people still out there who may not have a clue about what
02:23 System Shock even is.
02:25 Perhaps the remake coming to consoles will show the franchise has some future outside
02:30 of the PC space?
02:31 Only time will tell.
02:41 Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
02:50 With the 3DS market now being at the mercy of resellers thanks to the digital storefront
02:54 being shut down, Nintendo has a good excuse to recycle some of their 3DS games for the
02:59 Switch and whatever console they're planning to put out next.
03:03 Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon is one of the first of these to be remastered under the
03:07 new title, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
03:19 Back in the day, Dark Moon was regarded by fans as an underwhelming sequel due to the
03:24 game's restrictive nature.
03:26 You just could not explore the game's many mansions on your own free will, and were instead
03:31 constantly getting pulled out by EGAD for very specific portions.
03:35 Whether this HD remaster intends to change that or not remains to be seen.
03:40 Regardless, you can expect Luigi's Mansion 2 HD to drop on the Switch on June 27th, 2024.
03:46 Monster Hunter Stories
04:02 Unlike Luigi's Mansion 2, Monster Hunter Stories did find a life outside of the 3DS.
04:08 Unfortunately, that other life was on mobile devices, but that will soon no longer be the
04:12 case.
04:13 The original Monster Hunter Stories is getting remastered for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation
04:18 4, and PC, and it will be released on June 14th, 2024.
04:22 PS4 owners will have more reason to rejoice on that day, as the sequel will be coming
04:26 to the platform on that day as well.
04:30 That's right, Monster Hunter Stories 2 Wings of Ruin will no longer be tied to only the
04:43 Switch and PC, so if you've missed out on these two on account of not owning a 3DS or
04:48 a Switch, you'll have your chance very, very soon.
04:58 Clock Tower
05:11 Clock Tower has now become a relic of the 90s.
05:14 While many of us were fawning over Resident Evil and Silent Hill in the mid to late 90s,
05:18 Japan was enjoying a lesser-known horror title.
05:21 Clock Tower was a remarkable gem in how its killer, Scissorman, would stalk you around
05:25 locations, much like Nemesis in Pyramid Head.
05:36 Thanks to the efforts of WayForward Technologies and Limited Run Games, the 1995 original will
05:41 be making an international release for the first time ever in 2024.
05:46 You can expect a new animated intro to the game, enhanced audio and visuals, and added
05:50 features like randomizers to give the game more replay value.
06:02 Epic Mickey Re-Brushed
06:10 One of many forgotten gems released for the Wii, Epic Mickey was a wonderfully crafted
06:15 3D platformer that painted Mickey in a different light, no pun intended.
06:19 Before his fame, Mickey accidentally created a desolate world to be inhabited by forgotten
06:23 cartoon characters.
06:25 Decades later, he is mysteriously abducted and brought into the world to face the harm
06:29 he's wrought.
06:30 Epic Mickey was never released outside of the Wii, but this remake seeks to fix that.
06:44 Purple Lamp, the wonderful studio behind SpongeBob SquarePants The Cosmic Shake and the 2020
06:49 remake of Battle for Bikini Bottom, has been toiling away at this, bringing this obscure
06:53 title forward with better framerate, refined controls, and new combat mechanics.
06:59 Epic Mickey Re-Brushed is due for release sometime in 2024.
07:14 Sonic X Shadow Generations
07:24 There are plenty of Sonic games that have been cast into the digital ether or left to
07:27 the mercy of resellers.
07:29 Though many fans have been begging for a Sonic Unleashed remaster or remake, Sega is giving
07:34 us this remaster of Sonic Generations.
07:38 The original game was developed in celebration of Sonic's 20th anniversary, offering up
07:42 a massive platter of levels to play as both the modern and classic iterations of the blue
07:47 blur.
07:55 As one can quickly observe from the title alone, this remaster is adding another character
08:00 to the mix, Shadow the Hedgehog, who's coming complete with his own campaign.
08:06 Expect this game to drop sometime in the fall of 2024.
08:16 Until Dawn
08:25 While Sony has made some questionable decisions as to which games are getting remade or remastered,
08:31 there is a case to be made with Until Dawn.
08:33 Not all of the character animation has aged particularly well, and the fixed camera angles
08:38 can be cumbering to some.
08:40 This remake is being developed by a brand new studio under Sony, Ballistic Moon, and
08:45 the studio is developing the game on Unreal Engine 5.
08:56 Though we have not seen gameplay at the time of this video, one of the improvements Sony
09:01 has revealed is that the game will be implementing a third-person camera instead of retaining
09:05 the fixed cameras.
09:07 Contextual animations and character animations in general will also see changes.
09:11 We're sure other changes are abound, but we'll have to wait and see how this plays
09:15 out when it arrives later in 2024.
09:30 Shadows of the Damned – Hela Remastered
09:44 Shadows of the Damned was one of several EA-published games to have sadly disappeared from digital
09:49 storefronts.
09:50 Admittedly, there are a few things in this game that have not aged well, primarily the
09:54 controls.
09:55 It took well over a decade to get it, but we are finally getting a remaster of this
10:00 crazy as hell game.
10:01 Grasshopper Manufacturer, the studio behind the original Shadows of the Damned, is working
10:06 on the remaster, and they will be publishing it themselves.
10:16 From what we've seen so far, the controls have been refined, and the framerate is now
10:20 a buttery smooth 60 frames per second.
10:24 Shadows of the Damned – Hela Remastered will drop on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5,
10:28 Xbox One, Xbox Series XS, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC sometime in 2024, and it won't
10:35 be the only Grasshopper Manufacturer game out this year.
10:47 Lollipop Chainsaw – RePop The original Lollipop Chainsaw released one
10:59 year after Shadows of the Damned, both games making a name for Grasshopper Manufacturer.
11:04 But rather than give players a talking gun from hell, GM put players in the shoes of
11:09 a chainsaw-wielding cheerleader named Juliet Starling as she puts a stop to a zombie alien
11:14 invasion.
11:15 Yes, it is as insane as it sounds.
11:21 Originally, the game was going to get a remake under the "RePop" name, however fans were
11:31 greatly concerned over changes being made to Juliet's appearance and the game's
11:35 writing.
11:36 In response to this, GM announced that they were switching over to simply remastering
11:40 the game so that the original can be preserved on modern hardware.
11:43 But at the time of this video, nothing has been shown.
11:46 Here's hoping the game meets its 2024 window.
11:55 The Gex Remasters In July 2023, Limited Run Games announced
12:07 that they were working on remasters of three very peculiar IPs – Clock Tower, which we
12:12 covered earlier, Tomba, and the Gex Trilogy.
12:16 Honestly, it's confusing as to why Gex, of all characters, is getting a remastered
12:21 trilogy.
12:22 Yes, we know that everyone loves their memes, and the games weren't awful by any stretch
12:33 of the imagination.
12:34 Still, there is reason to remain skeptical as to why this is happening.
12:39 No matter how you feel, Gex will be making his return at some point.
12:43 Limited Run hasn't said much since the announcement, but we'd anticipate the trilogy launching
12:48 sometime in 2024.
12:57 Silent Hill 2 Remake We aren't quite sure why Konami and Sony
13:08 have been so tight-lipped on Silent Hill 2's release date.
13:12 With developer Bloober Team now shifting to other projects, it's safe to assume the
13:16 title is ready to come out of the oven for better or worse.
13:19 Plus, the game has already been rated by South Korea's ratings board, which indicates ratings
13:24 from PEGI and ESRB are not far behind.
13:34 One Mexican retailer claimed the game is dropping on May 30th, but neither Sony nor Konami would
13:39 drop a game so soon.
13:41 Just for reference, we wrote and recorded this video in April, a month before the release
13:45 date, so uh, yeah, that ain't happening.
13:49 Hopefully we will get some news in June, considering that's when all the big gaming announcements
13:53 happen.
13:54 Though our money for Silent Hill 2's release date is on August or September, just before
13:59 Halloween.
14:00 As to whether it looks promising, we're just gonna leave that up to you.
14:10 Metal Gear Solid Delta - Snake Eater Much like Silent Hill 2, fans have become
14:22 skeptical over the Snake Eater remake.
14:25 Once again, Konami has been keeping its cards close, and what little has been shown of the
14:29 game hasn't seemed to have impressed folks.
14:32 However, David Hayter, the voice of Snake, has come out to say that he's played the
14:37 game, even going so far as to call it "spectacular."
14:45 Judge the early footage as you will, no release date or window has been given, but just to
14:49 give Silent Hill some space to potentially thrive on the market, if it has a chance of
14:54 doing so, we're guessing MGS Delta will make its way to platforms sometime in 2025.
15:08 Prince of Persia - Sands of Time Remake Speaking of coy publishers and remakes, Prince
15:21 of Persia - Sands of Time was supposed to get a remake ages ago.
15:25 Really, this game was supposed to release on January 21st, 2021.
15:31 Then it was delayed to March 18th, 2021.
15:34 Then it was indefinitely delayed, and then customers were refunded.
15:38 So where the hell is this thing?
15:46 Well folks weren't too pleased with the visuals, and in April 2024, Outlet Insider
15:52 Gaming revealed that the game went through a complete restart under a whole different
15:57 studio under Ubisoft's wing, and unfortunately, the game is still not close to being done.
16:03 Expect a 2025 release date?
16:05 We're feeling this may come at least in 2026, if not later.
16:19 Sam & Max - The Devil's Playhouse Remastered While we're on the subject of remasters
16:32 with no word outside of "it's coming", the third Sam & Max game developed by Telltale
16:37 Games is getting remastered by Skunk Ape Games.
16:40 For those unaware, Skunk Ape Games is a studio formed by former Telltale Games staff, and
16:46 in 2020, they managed to acquire the rights to the Sam & Max games.
16:55 Since then, the studio has already released remasters for Sam & Max Save the World and
17:00 Beyond Space and Time in 2020 and 2021.
17:03 However, there has been no word on The Devil's Playhouse since the remaster was announced.
17:09 Maybe we'll see it in 2024?
17:11 Hopefully?
17:12 Dragon Quest III HD 2D Remake Dragon Quest fans have plenty to look forward
17:31 to between Dragon Quest XII and this remake of one of the older Dragon Quest games.
17:36 Unfortunately, recent events have raised some questions.
17:40 As many of us already know, Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball and longtime character
17:45 designer for the Dragon Quest games, passed away on March 1st, 2024.
17:49 And so, we have to wonder how much of his work was done before his passing.
18:01 How close was he and his team to being finished?
18:04 Is it finished already?
18:05 Does this change the rest of the development process for this remake?
18:09 Only time will tell, but it's perhaps best to let the team take the time they need before
18:14 resuming the project if possible.
18:16 Godspeed guys, don't rush it.
18:25 The Max Payne Remakes Max Payne has been dormant for a number of
18:36 years ever since Remedy Entertainment got absorbed into its own world of weird horrors
18:41 in Alan Wake and Control.
18:43 In addition to Control 2, Remedy is working on remakes of the first two Max Payne games.
18:48 Neither have been brought forward to modern platforms, but their original Xbox versions
18:53 are backwards compatible on Xbox Series XS.
18:58 And what of Max Payne 3?
19:04 Why isn't that getting a remake?
19:05 Well, we would argue that game still holds up, even through XS back compat.
19:10 One miracle at a time for now folks.
19:20 The Witcher Remake CD Projekt has a handful of projects going
19:32 on right now.
19:33 One of them is Cyberpunk 2, of course.
19:36 Another has to be a brand new Witcher game.
19:38 But of them all, we're more interested in the remake of the first Witcher game.
19:43 This is a game from way back in 2007, and technology has vastly improved since then.
19:57 So with all the new lessons in game design, CD Projekt has the chance to properly reintroduce
20:02 Geralt and friends in a new light with new mechanics and controls.
20:06 Besides, the first Witcher was never released outside of PC and Mac, so console players
20:12 are in for a brand new experience.
20:23 Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Man, this project has been through the ringer.
20:35 The KOTOR remake was announced way back in 2021, and was financially backed by Sony at
20:41 one point.
20:42 Problem is that the project was not shaping up to everyone's standards, and so in 2022,
20:47 a couple of key directors were fired, Sony backed out of the project, and even delisted
20:52 the trailer from their social media accounts, and development shifted from Aspyr to Saber
20:57 Interactive.
21:05 Probably a good call there after what happened with Battlefront Classic Collection, but that's
21:08 besides the point.
21:09 For a time, the long silence indicated the project may have been in trouble, but in April
21:14 2024, Saber Interactive broke the silence by saying the project is "alive and well."
21:22 Who knows when we're seeing this though.
21:44 With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth blowing our expectations out of the water in ways we could
21:48 have never imagined, one question now remains, when do we get that finale?
21:53 Considering how much was packed into Rebirth, it's almost surprising how Square Enix managed
21:58 to get it out less than 4 years after Final Fantasy VII Remake.
22:06 Honestly, with that quick turnaround while managing to put out Crysis Core and Final
22:13 Fantasy XVI, Square Enix seems to have a game plan and it seems to be going smoothly.
22:18 Our best guess is that the finale to Final Fantasy VII will come before we even get a
22:22 glimpse of the next generation of consoles.
22:25 Maybe 2027?
22:27 Maybe?
22:29 But which video game remake or remaster are you looking forward to the most?

22:43 great videos every day!
