Arrowhead Report's Tucker Franklin and Jordan Foote discuss how New England Patriots backup quarterback Brian Hoyer changes the Kansas City Chiefs' game plan for Monday's game.
Transcript
00:00 And let's talk about Brian Horan, what he kind of brings to this offense.
00:02 I know going into the season, we kind of thought Jared Stidham was going to be the starting
00:06 quarterback.
00:07 He did get a hip issue and Devin Clements on Friday's podcast.
00:10 I keep mentioning that conversation because it was a good conversation.
00:14 It's too bad that it's outdated right now.
00:16 It really is.
00:17 I think 90% of the podcast you could probably listen to and be like, okay, that's still
00:20 relevant information, but we do talk a decent amount about Cam Newton and which is a shame,
00:25 which is a shame because I really wanted to see Cam Newton go against Patrick Mahomes
00:29 because I don't think we've seen that matchup yet.
00:31 Off the top of my head, I don't think Cam Newton has played because he's been in the
00:35 NFC.
00:36 Yeah, sure.
00:37 And this would have been the year that they would have played if he was still in Carolina.
00:39 Nope.
00:40 Because they're in the NFC.
00:41 So, yeah, it would have been because the Chiefs play the Panthers this year.
00:45 So yeah, we would have got to see that matchup regardless, which is kind of cool to think
00:48 about.
00:49 But this is disappointing.
00:52 And I think that we were talking before we came on the podcast about how our predictions
00:56 change.
00:57 How did this kind of change your prediction?
00:59 Well, for me, originally I had the Chiefs winning 41-27.
01:05 And when I altered my prediction, I didn't even look at my old one and I had the Chiefs
01:09 scoring 42.
01:10 So either way, I had them just ripping apart a somewhat depleted, but surprisingly still
01:15 really good Patriots defense.
01:18 But offensively for the Pats, rather, I had them putting up 27 with Cam just because the
01:25 Chiefs would have a really hard time shutting him down.
01:30 He's not a better quarterback than Lamar Jackson, the guy the Chiefs just played.
01:34 But I think I trust him a little more to throw the ball against the Chiefs, if that makes
01:39 sense.
01:40 Yeah.
01:41 But with Hoyer, really the quick passing game is going to be key again.
01:45 If his quick reads aren't there, he's pretty doomed.
01:47 He can't get out of the pocket and run.
01:50 He doesn't do well under pressure, not very athletic.
01:52 So the keys to shutting him down, first make him beat you, which the Chiefs are going to
01:57 try to do, and then just put pressure on him and you're probably golden.
02:01 So it shouldn't be a very tough matchup at all, I think.
