The Chargers and Rams will costar in the 2020 edition of "Hard Knocks," HBO and NFL Films' annual training-camp docuseries.
Transcript
00:00 HBO has announced that they have decided on the team that will be featured on this year's
00:05 docuseries Hard Knocks.
00:07 And actually, it's not just one team.
00:09 It's two.
00:10 The Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams are both scheduled to make their appearances
00:16 this summer on the HBO Critically Acclaimed series.
00:20 For that analysis, let's bring on Jason Horshorn, who, Jason, I mean, the Chargers and the Rams,
00:25 I know they are in the same city, they're in the same stadium, but to have two teams
00:30 on Hard Knocks, it's going to be very interesting.
00:33 Yeah, it's kind of like the battle for Los Angeles.
00:36 Obviously, these two teams have come back into this market very recently.
00:40 And even though the Rams have already made a Super Bowl since their return, they're still
00:43 fighting for attention, fighting for fans.
00:46 So pitting both of them against each other in a way in Hard Knocks makes a lot of sense
00:50 for both the teams and for HBO.
00:52 A lot of unknowns in first times for Hard Knocks, which I love watching the series.
00:57 I just, I don't know what I'm going to think about it with two teams.
01:00 I mean, there's so much information given on each episode to now worry about players
01:05 from two different franchises.
01:07 It just seems like a lot.
01:10 It does.
01:11 And both teams have a lot of narratives that would normally fill up a Hard Knocks season.
01:14 The Rams obviously released Todd Gurley during free agency.
01:18 That would have been the lead story in a Hard Knocks series if that happened.
01:21 But then you also have the Chargers replacing Phillip Rivers after 16 years with the organization
01:26 that would also be in a block kind of story.
01:28 So you have all these things coming together.
01:30 It's probably good for the series that they have so many different things to cover, but
01:34 you're right.
01:35 It's just a lot of terrain to cover in such a short amount of time.
01:39 And who are some of the, the PR every year on Hard Knocks, you know, there's a personality
01:43 that emerges from one of these, one of these players that the fans fall in love with.
01:47 Who do you think that would be from the Chargers?
01:49 Well, there's a few guys that could be.
01:51 Austin Eckler is this very humble player was a former undrafted free agent and now one
01:56 of the stars of the offense.
01:57 I think he would make a lot of sense as a centerpiece.
02:00 You also have players like Melvin Ingram, maybe not an A-list star in a normal sense,
02:04 but one of the most colorful characters in that locker room.
02:07 And so a bunch of things that I can't repeat on camera and I definitely would make for
02:11 an interesting subject matter on the show.
02:13 Obviously the Rams have plenty of guys like that as well.
02:15 So there's gonna be no shortage of things to cover for Hard Knocks this year.
02:19 All right, Jason, appreciate that analysis.
02:21 I'm looking forward to Hard Knocks.
02:23 Very interesting to see it this year with two teams, the Rams and the Chargers.
02:26 Thank you.
02:27 Looking forward to it as well, Bill.
