The COVID-19 pandemic has given sports fans a wake-up call.
Transcript
00:00Losing sports hurts, because as the coronavirus has declared a pandemic and the NBA season is suspended,
00:06we are reminded how little they really matter.
00:09But to us, they matter so much.
00:12And they are usually where we can turn when times get tough.
00:15I love the NBA.
00:17The fact that it won't be there, and for who knows how long, is scary.
00:22No matter what else is going on in life at night, I could always look forward to turning on some hoops,
00:27and then discussing them.
00:29But now wondering whether the Milwaukee Bucks could complete a magical season,
00:33or if LeBron James might get another ring, has no meaning.
00:37Perhaps that is the best reality check of all for fans as to just how serious a situation this is.
00:43The stock line is that sports brings people together.
00:46Well now, they're keeping people apart.
00:49March Madness will be played without fans, if at all.
00:52Major League Baseball is scrambling as well.
00:55All bets are off regarding how this will play out,
00:58but I wouldn't bet on any games being played for the foreseeable future.
01:03Unprecedented is a word that is probably about to be overused, but is the only one that applies.
01:09Who knows what happens from here?
01:11From a professionally selfish standpoint, I have absolutely no idea what my industry is going to do.
01:17But again, ultimately, none of that matters.
01:21The only thing that does is we all stay calm and stay healthy.
01:25Because even if we don't have sports to help, we're going to have to get through this together.
