00:04 Whatever you think of how it came to be, Roger Goodell in the NFL's latest statement is significant,
00:10 because it shows what the country is currently thinking.
00:12 I realize for many it will not have true meaning without a direct apology to Colin Kaepernick,
00:17 but think about how far the conversation has come, from essentially ostracizing him for kneeling,
00:22 to Drew Brees doing a complete 180 on his disrespecting the flag comments.
00:27 No longer are people arguing over the merits of the protests,
00:30 but instead the NFL commissioner is saying the league was wrong,
00:33 and we see the focus actually moving to social injustice and policing.
00:38 And one must consider the audience the NFL speaks to.
00:41 I've argued the league may be the single most popular thing in this country.
00:45 It is viewed in blue and red states and everything in between.
00:48 So for them to go from being scared of backlash from certain fans for allowing players to take a stand,
00:54 to having the commissioner on camera addressing exactly what the players asked, is a serious shift.
01:00 It shows both that the players in the NFL are beginning to realize the power they have,
01:04 and that the inverse of the backlash the league originally feared is now far more powerful.
01:09 Again, just ask Brees.
01:11 So while my default position is hoping for people's best intentions when they show a change,
01:16 I understand why some remain cynical.
01:18 However, I wouldn't underestimate the significance of the NFL saying this,
01:23 because in many ways, nothing speaks to America like football does.
