00:00Several members of the Dallas Cowboys have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
00:05We know that Ezekiel Elliott is amongst them.
00:07For more, I'm joined by Mike Fisher of cowboyssi.com.
00:11Mike, how does how the Cowboys have handled this
00:15indicate how the NFL expects to approach it going forward?
00:19Well, there's probably a medical issue here and a legal issue here.
00:24The medical issue is going to be fine.
00:26Ezekiel Elliott in his early 20s,
00:28one of the healthiest people on the planet with the finest health care available too.
00:34So he'll be fine.
00:35The legal part of this is Zeke's protest on social media mentioning HIPAA,
00:41which of course is the law that
00:44precludes medical professionals from releasing this sort of information.
00:47I don't suspect that medical officials release this.
00:50I think Zeke's own camp got to talking and it got out that way.
00:55Zeke is upset about it, obviously,
00:57because in a sense, it's embarrassing, I guess.
01:00Although, those times from three months ago when a bunch of us said,
01:03I don't know about this coronavirus thing,
01:05I don't know anybody who's got it.
01:07Well, now you do.
01:09What about the football applications?
01:11I saw Roger Goodell say that they're going to have to deal with positive tests.
01:14How do you expect the NFL and teams like the Cowboys to handle that?
01:18Well, they've got themselves a conundrum
01:21because six feet apart doesn't work in a huddle.
01:25Don't breathe on each other doesn't work when I'm tackling you.
01:29This is not only a sport where I breathe on you,
01:31it's even a sport where I bleed on you.
01:35This is a medical risk.
01:38There's no question about it for NFL players moving forward and crossing
01:42our fingers and keeping fans out of the stands or a limitation of fans in the stands.
01:47That's not going to be enough.
01:48The risk is absolutely there.
01:50What will have to be there as well is constant and
01:54consistent monitoring and testing.
01:56When someone does catch COVID-19,
01:59they get quarantined right away.
02:00I guess specific to your question,
02:02what happens in week one if player X gets
02:05sick and has to be in quarantine and misses week two?
02:09That'll be yet another obstacle as we approach football.
02:13Yeah. So far, the NFL has been very fortunate in its timing,
02:16but it's going to have to deal with the reality as the season approaches.
02:20Mike, appreciate your time.
