How much will the Saints miss Drew Brees?

The saints will be without drew brees for sometime.

00:00Drew Brees has multiple fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, ouch, and will be out obviously

00:06for at least a number of weeks, we'd assume.

00:08So how much will the Saints miss him?

00:10I'm here with Bill Enright.

00:11Bill, what do you think?

00:12Is this a big blow to New Orleans?

00:15I'm not sure given their next four opponents.

00:19If you look at their schedule, they're playing the Falcons twice, the Broncos and the Eagles.

00:24None of those teams have more than three wins on the year.

00:27You look at what Teddy Bridgewater did last year when Drew Brees went out for a couple

00:31of weeks.

00:32He was 5-0 as a starter and Drew Brees actually admits that getting that extra time off during

00:38the middle of the season actually helped him later on in the year.

00:41We know the Saints are playoff bound.

00:43I don't think they'll be that number one seed in the NFC now that he's going to miss a couple

00:47games because James Winston, while he may not be a quality starter compared to Drew

00:55Brees, he can still help them win a couple of games.

00:58But if you look into December, if Drew Brees is still out for that Chiefs game, a couple

01:04other games toward the end of the year, that's when they can get into some trouble.

01:07Well, look, if Drew Brees is out for the year, maybe.

01:10But if it is a short-term, relatively at least speaking, injury, I don't really think it

01:14hurts them at all.

01:15One, they have a cushion.

01:16But two, some of the things you just mentioned, they went 5-0 with Bridgewater last year.

01:20And while Brees is not washed up, and some of the talk about that was a little premature,

01:25he's not the driving factor behind their success.

01:28And they actually have a better quarterback situation than most teams because they have

01:32James Winston who can step in.

01:33And they also have Taysom Hill.

01:36And people are wondering if perhaps he could be the next starter for that team at some

01:41point in time.

01:42So as long as Drew Brees is back healthy before the end of the season, I think this is at

01:48most a bump in the road for the Saints.
