SI's Bri Amaranthus and Chris Halicke discuss how the Texas Rangers rotation stacks up with the best rotations in baseball if expectations are met in 2020.
Transcript
00:00Obviously one of the biggest goals for the Texas Rangers in 2020 is to make a
00:04playoff run but when you look at their starting rotation how does it stack up
00:09against some of the other top starting rotations? Well it's definitely on paper
00:14it's definitely up there. They've got Mike Miner and Lance Lynn who were both
00:18in the Cy Young running last year. Neither one were going to be favorites
00:23to win it but they still earned votes. Lance Lynn finished fifth, Mike Miner
00:26finished eighth in the voting. They acquired Corey Kluger who's won two
00:30Cy Youngs of his own in December shortly after the winter meetings concluded and
00:34then they also made some sneaky good signings in Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles.
00:39So one through five this is a really good rotation on paper. There's some red
00:44flags but overall if they live up to expectations if Corey Kluger can get
00:49back can bounce back from an injury-riddled 2019 season and be back
00:53to the clue bot that he was in 2017 and 2018 this could be a very dangerous
00:59rotation. So when you look at those five players some are sneaky good some have
01:04some pretty high expectations when you look at those compared to some of the
01:08other top rotations I know you sat down with the roundtable how is it kind of
01:12stacking up? I think that most people are looking at this rotation as like you
01:21know higher you know if they live up to their expectations they're definitely up
01:24there but if Mike Miner and Lance Lynn can't repeat that 2019 success if Corey
01:30Kluger is just not the same guy after being injured for almost all of 2019 if
01:35Kyle Gibson's health issues are still kind of bothering him and if Jordan
01:38Lyles is still an inconsistent pitcher if everything goes wrong this is not
01:42going to be a good enough rotation to take them to the playoffs. The Rangers
01:46aren't built you know well enough they still need another bat in the middle of
01:50the lineup the bullpen still has a lot of questions so they really are relying
01:54on this rotation to to take them and that rotation will take them as far as
01:59the Rangers are going to go honestly.
