00:00 The European Union has banned the use of the term milk for plant milk producers in Europe
00:08 and European area basically.
00:10 So similar trend is being seen in India also and now I think FSSAI notification is going
00:16 to come in very soon on this.
00:18 So do you think that there must be some efforts from the government side also to push this
00:22 sector, the plant based sector and the companies in this?
00:29 If you have an enlightened leader that would happen.
00:34 But even if you do not have a very enlightened leader, why do you wait for the government
00:41 policies, please tell me.
00:43 Plant based products are anyway more economical to produce.
00:53 You do not even require government subsidy.
00:56 I am very closely associated with a firm that is bringing in plant based products, not in
01:07 a commercial sense, but I have been mentoring them in a spiritual way you could say.
01:15 So I know for sure how inexpensive it is.
01:18 I know for sure that if you tell the population that what I am serving to you with fortified
01:28 ingredients has all the goodness of milk at one third the price, at one fifth the price,
01:37 people will take it.
01:39 Maybe initially there would be some reluctance, some suspicion, but gradually the thing would
01:45 ease into their systems.
01:48 So you do not even need positive government policy interventions, you do not need that.
01:53 All you need is will power and the resolve to bring it to the masses and make money.
02:07 It's something that can succeed even commercially.
02:11 So it's a good combination where you have ethics on your side, where you have spirituality
02:16 on your side and where you also have commercial gain on your side and all this can be put
02:22 into one.
02:23 It's a fantastic opportunity for entrepreneurial advances.
02:27 Okay, so talking about this, you know, soya is like the most widely consumed food by vegans
02:34 in different forms and most of the soya that comes into India and in other places is all
02:39 GMO.
02:40 So, you know, people say that it's harmful for health and there are a lot of, you know,
02:44 basically they have reservations about it.
02:46 What do you have to say about that?
02:48 Look, if it indeed is genetically modified, then it's a great opportunity for someone
02:56 to produce, you know, organic or natural soya without any genetic interventions in it and
03:05 market it.
03:08 It need not be GM soya.
03:11 Right?
03:12 So, basically Indian farmers need to…
03:16 Obviously, obviously, I don't know whether you have done the numbers on this, but you
03:22 will be surprised at how inexpensive the whole thing comes out to be.
03:28 In fact, when I said I have mentored one concern, I have actually mentored two of them and one
03:34 of them actually supplies tofu and dahi and rassi, all of these vegan to this place.
03:48 And it was just last week or sometime, I was scrolling the conversations that Bitu here
03:57 had with him on a group and the entire load that he had delivered, this much, was for
04:07 some 500 bucks something, 500 rupees and this much stuff.
04:14 And you taste it, it's wonderful and you look at the minerals, vitamins and all other stuff
04:21 it has, proteins, it's again wonderful.
04:28 The economic argument is in favor of it, the health argument is in favor of it, the spiritual
04:34 argument favors it, why would then anybody deny it?
04:40 People do care for their pocket, don't they?
04:44 You know what, very silently, tofu is anyway creeping into our diets.
04:58 A lot of these eateries, tofu is being used in large quantities, why?
05:06 Because it is cheaper compared to paneer.
05:10 So they are using tofu and it tastes equally good and it's not at all differentiable, otherwise
05:19 their customers would have complained.
05:23 The nutrition is fantastic, the taste is equally good, why did you know how to cook and all
05:30 that, the process is different.
05:34 So that's the argument that probably will help a lot, the economics.
05:40 But even for that, the entrepreneur has to ensure that the pricing is right.
05:51 If you look at the biggest soy brands in the country, who sell soy milk and all, I find
06:00 their pricing just not optimal.
06:06 The result will be that they will be able to skin a lot of cream, make a lot of money
06:13 for themselves, but will fail in expanding the market.
06:22 The market size will remain small, so they will have a small customer base, but with
06:31 large margins.
06:33 So in total they will be able to make some money, which I think is a bad deal.
06:38 It's far better to expand the market by lowering the prices.
