Transcript
00:00 to make this a great country, who've spent times away from their family and friends and
00:07 have just basically put their service to their nation and their community above themselves.
00:15 It's 110 years from Gallipoli but everyone here is still, it's just as powerful than
00:20 the last post and everything. Why do you think that is?
00:23 I think it's really poignant that we maintain a link with our heritage. We don't have World
00:30 War I veterans around anymore but we still have their memories, we've got their families,
00:38 their friends are still here and it's not just about the World War I veterans, it's
00:44 about all the veterans who've served in our peacekeeping, in our operations and continue
00:51 to serve to this very day. All the people here, all the young people, it's great to
00:56 see them come and pay their respects to those who are still serving and have served before.
01:03 Are you from Tamworth? No.
01:06 Well why have you chosen to be here in Tamworth? I'm the commanding officer of the 1216th
01:12 Hunter River Lancers. My headquarters is here in Tamworth. It's a reserve unit and we have
01:19 members spread from Caboolture in North Brisbane down to Musselbrook. It's a way for members
01:26 of the community to serve their nation, to have camaraderie and learn good skills. So
01:34 I really do encourage people to have a look at the reserves as an opportunity to serve
01:42 and learn some good skills.
01:45 How do you believe Tamworth commemorates Anzac Day? Do you think Tamworth does a good job?
01:51 I am really pleased with the turnout here today. To see so many young people representing
01:58 their community is really...
02:01 Damn it, that's not OK.
02:06 Do it well.
02:09 I'm really pleased with the service here today. To see so many young people representing
02:15 their community and paying their respects is really special. It's wonderful to see as
02:22 every year goes on more and more people turn out to respect Anzac Day.
