00:00Health Minister Zulkifli Ahmad should reject the proposed ban on 24-hour operating licences for eateries.
00:09Kepung MP Lim Lip Eng said the suggestion, currently being reviewed by the Health Ministry,
00:14was unnecessary and could harm the country's economy.
00:18Lim said these eateries provide employment opportunities and generate revenue through food sales and tourism.
00:25Prohibiting them would lead to job losses and a decrease in economic activity, said the DAP man.
00:32Lim also said these eateries provide convenience and accessibility for people with varied schedules,
00:39including late-shift workers and travellers arriving at odd hours.
00:43He said banning them could also hinder social interactions and recreational activities,
00:48inadvertently affecting community cohesion and people's mental wellbeing.
00:53Earlier, Zulkifli acknowledged a call from the Consumers Association of Penang
00:58to abolish 24-hour eateries to combat obesity in Malaysia,
01:03but said the suggestion required further refinement.
