00:00 >> A question about false starts,
00:02 you guys cost them to have a few false starts with no fans in the stadium.
00:06 How does that exactly work?
00:07 You've been on both sides of the ball.
00:09 Is it the kind of shifts that you guys run in Bateman's thing or
00:13 is that just something that kind of naturally occurs?
00:15 >> Yeah, a lot of the time it's in like 31, 32 short yardage,
00:20 where we do a stunt and try to get them off sides.
00:25 And I think that's just something we've done.
00:29 Usually Jeremiah calls it out and able to get our line of move and
00:33 the line is sometimes a little jumpy when it's short yardage like that.
00:38 So we got a couple of those calls today,
00:40 which was nice to get them back in the third and six as opposed to 301.
00:44 >> All right, Ross Martin, go ahead.
00:50 >> Hey, Chaz, how would you kind of grade your defense's pass rush today?
00:57 >> I think we got to the quarterback a lot.
01:01 The guy was a big quarterback, so
01:05 he was able to make some plays and throw the ball away.
01:10 We probably could have had like seven or eight sacks, but
01:13 he was a big guy, tough to bring down.
01:16 But I mean, I'd have to watch the film.
01:19 Right now I couldn't say, just come out of the field, but
01:22 I thought we did get some good pass rush in spots during the game.
01:27 >> Is there anything in particular you can say about what works,
01:30 just coming from the perspective now?
01:31 >> I mean, yeah, I think just based on our film from last week,
01:36 I think we're really good in the run game.
01:39 They kind of abandoned the run coming into the game and
01:44 we didn't really expect that.
01:45 So we just got to be able to flip our focus and play a lot of coverage.
01:49 I think that's what we need to improve on going into the season.
01:52 >> Cool, thanks, Chaz.
01:55 >> CL Brown, go ahead.
01:56 >> Yeah, Chaz, what kind of presence would you say that Trey Morrison has in
02:03 the huddle, especially now that Miles is not in there and
02:09 Trey is kind of the most veteran guy in the secondary?
02:13 >> Yeah, I mean, Trey's big for us.
02:15 I mean, he's played corner, he's played nickel, and now he's at free safety.
02:18 So he knows all the spots, and able to help the young guys in there,
02:23 and be able to tell them what to do, make all the calls.
02:28 So I mean, he's gonna be a big part of our defense this year, and
02:31 he made a really big play at the end of the game, so I'm really proud of him.
02:36 >> Can you put us in the huddle right before that two-point conversion play?
02:40 What did you guys think they were gonna throw at you, and
02:45 what was the feeling like for the defense?
02:48 >> We were really targeting 80, that was their best player by far.
02:52 So we were expecting some kind of flat corner to the boundary, but
02:56 the quarterback rolling out.
02:58 It was two by, I wanna say, three by one, and then they motioned a two by two.
03:03 So that kind of changed our defense a little bit,
03:05 cuz originally I had the back.
03:08 But that kind of changes our coverage, and
03:10 we played kind of like true thirds to that formation.
03:13 And we were able to sit on it.
03:15 I think somebody got some pressure, and then I would came, and
03:19 I think Trey made a big play.
03:21 >> Thanks.
03:23 >> All right, JB Ricks, go ahead.
03:26 >> Hey, Chaz, congrats on the win.
03:29 I'm just asking everybody across the board how much of an effect the three week
03:34 layoff had on you guys.
03:35 How long did it take for you to kind of get into a groove?
03:39 The excitement, just being back on the field, and
03:43 were you guys approaching this as if this was a second beginning to your season?
03:50 >> Yeah, for sure, with the three week layoff, we kind of rebooted ourselves.
03:54 We came out like this was a season opener.
03:56 No, we hadn't played in three weeks.
03:59 I think we came out strong.
04:01 I mean, we came out and it was 14 to 3.
04:03 And then we kind of got in a lull.
04:06 I think sometimes we think we're just gonna blow people out.
04:09 So, I mean, even when we're winning, guys got their heads down like
04:13 we're losing the game, but we're still winning.
04:16 I think we just expect so much out of ourselves that kind of gets to us.
04:20 Sometimes I think we're gonna do a better job of that going into the season.
04:23 >> Thank you.
04:26 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:31 >> Chaz, you guys kept Syracuse to 1.9 rushing yards per carry,
04:36 2.1 today for Boston College.
04:39 How have you guys been so successful stopping the run,
04:42 even if they're not running it down your throats over and over and over?
04:46 >> Yeah, I just think the guys we got up front starts set the tone and
04:50 then me and Kimball really locked in on our reads and stuff.
04:55 So I think it just starts with the front seven.
04:57 Coach Bateman does a lot of good calls.
05:02 He pretty much knows what runs are coming and what formations.
05:05 So we're able to scheme it up and
05:07 get pressure where we think they're gonna run the ball to.
05:10 So I think that just a combination of that is why I think we have a good run
05:14 defense.
05:15 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:24 >> Mark, you're muted if you're talking to us.
05:26 >> I am muted, sorry about that.
05:27 Chaz, we're all set for it.
05:28 Thanks, man.
