Word's still escape me as I try and piece together my thoughts on the world's current affairs but I wanted to give you a piece of me.

00:00 Major League Baseball is still negotiating a possible return, while the NBA's announcement
00:05 seems imminent on when that season will resume.
00:08 But given the current state of affairs in the country, do sports even matter right now?
00:13 For more, I'm joined by our Corey Parson.
00:15 Now, Corey, you know, today, I guess, of all days, is when sports feel trivial to me.
00:21 But you know, how much do they matter at this very moment?
00:24 I think sports matters a lot at this very moment.
00:26 You've seen a lot of athletes speak up and come out this week.
00:29 A lot of people have talked about how their race relations started in locker rooms, being
00:35 around other athletes, being around other people of different cultures.
00:38 You look at fandom.
00:39 How many times have you been at a sports bar, at an arena, and you're cheering on your favorite
00:43 team and you're giving a high five or a hug to the guy right next to you?
00:47 I think it takes our mind off of some of this stuff.
00:49 We're used to watching the NFL Red Zone channel on Sundays.
00:52 Nights this weekend, we were basically watching Riot Red Zone as we saw cities getting torn
00:57 down from across the country.
00:59 So I think it's very important right now that sports do come back.
01:02 I think sports would be a big help right now to kind of take some angst away from people.
01:06 Yeah, I mean, I guess what I was saying is today, of all days, is when it feels hard
01:12 to talk about sports in the regular sense.
01:14 But big picture, I think I agree with you.
01:17 They could be part of our healing, both from the pandemic and from the current state of
01:23 affairs.
01:24 I don't want to overstate that, but in the sense of, you know, it would give some people
01:28 some good news to look forward to.
01:29 Listen, I think hope is something that people need right now.
01:33 I think, you know, something to feel good about and to be positive about is needed right
01:38 now.
01:39 So I really, listen, I don't want to seem trivial about what's going on in this country
01:42 right now, but it's been going on for a while.
01:45 Now I'm not saying it needs to be a return to action.
01:47 I think this is a seminal moment right here.
01:49 We're going through this pandemic.
01:51 We've got race-wise breaking out across the country.
01:53 But I think sports is important.
01:55 Maybe not in this moment today, but we need to get back to some sense of normality.
01:59 And I really think sports is a big part of that.
02:01 And sports and athletes, as you mentioned, have taken a real leadership role in the current
02:07 moment as well.
02:08 Corey, I appreciate your time, as always.
