00:00 Thank you, Mark.
00:02 A few things here and then we'll get it going.
00:06 All right.
00:07 Guys have had a good week's practice.
00:09 Just finished a good practice and had a good one yesterday.
00:12 They have great respect for Florida State.
00:14 It's just one of those programs that you know how great they are
00:18 and you've followed them and they've won a national championship
00:21 during these guys' lives.
00:23 So they're excited about the trip and playing in front of some fans.
00:27 I think they're talking about 19,000 fans.
00:29 That'll be like a full house for us
00:31 because we haven't been around many fans to start the season.
00:36 You look at Florida State, they're very, very talented.
00:40 The quarterback actually signed -
00:44 Jordan Travis actually signed with Louisville with Lonnie Galloway.
00:48 So he knows him very well and he says he's a great athlete.
00:50 He'd recruit him here.
00:52 And they said that they had Lamar Jackson, obviously,
00:55 and he transferred back to Florida where he's from with Florida State.
00:59 But he said he can run and throw and Terry's the best receiver
01:03 we've seen so far.
01:04 He's just a dominating player.
01:06 He'll be a top NFL player.
01:08 Then you've got Wilson Gaynor and Samuel Jr. on defense
01:14 and with a lot of other guys.
01:15 But those guys are all going to be draft choices.
01:18 So they've got a lot of great players as they go through it.
01:22 Ray Vahasik, Jaquarius Conley, and Emory Simmons,
01:27 all guys that we're watching through the week
01:29 and hope that they'll be able to play this weekend.
01:32 Still not 100% sure at this time.
01:35 I listened to all the interviews of our players
01:38 because I think that's a very important part of their branding
01:41 and an important part of their name, image, and likeness
01:45 that they can sell themselves
01:48 because people don't see football players.
01:50 They have helmets on and they don't see their personalities.
01:53 And this is a very important part of their growing process here.
01:57 And number one, thank you all for helping EZ yesterday.
02:02 I thought that was really brave of him.
02:04 And he asked Jeremy, "Can I do this?"
02:07 And I thought he did a tremendous job.
02:09 And he's making progress.
02:10 And he's so smart and he's all academic ACC.
02:14 He's one of the best young people I've ever been around
02:16 and a tremendous player.
02:17 So that's why you coach.
02:21 That young man feels better about himself today.
02:24 So that was really, really good.
02:26 Greg, I heard you ask some of the guys
02:29 about penalties yesterday.
02:30 And are we punishing them
02:32 or doing anything for the penalties?
02:33 This team won-- a lot of the players on this team
02:36 won two games two years ago.
02:38 So we didn't think-- we had a thing at Texas,
02:40 not our standards.
02:41 I think Larry might have done something like that here.
02:44 And every Sunday, we had them all get in front of the team
02:47 and do up-downs for-- the whole team had to.
02:49 And here, we're trying to correct them individually
02:52 on video in front of the team to make sure
02:55 that the team understands that we can't do this.
02:58 And then we're telling them, "We can't play you
03:01 if you're not doing well enough on the field
03:04 to take up for the penalties you're making.
03:06 So we need to stop the penalties."
03:07 And we go over them every day.
03:09 But this team had been so beaten down with losses and negatives,
03:12 we did not think that it was a good thing
03:14 to just beat them down in the first year we were here.
03:18 So we're not at that point yet.
03:21 Offensive line had great success last week.
03:28 I talked to them a long time today about,
03:31 can you do it twice?
03:33 Can you do it two weeks in a row?
03:34 We haven't played a full game yet as a team.
03:37 We had defense played really well against Syracuse.
03:42 Offense stood around most of a half.
03:45 And then the third quarter, late third quarter,
03:48 fourth quarter, they blew them out.
03:51 But it wasn't a full game.
03:53 Boston College, neither one played a full game.
03:56 And then Saturday, our defense didn't get done
03:58 what they wanted to get done.
03:59 And our offense played as well as I've seen anybody
04:02 play on offense a long time.
04:03 So and kicking game, where all the pieces are there.
04:07 We've had one mistake come up each of the three games
04:10 that's hurt us.
04:11 But we've got an outstanding punter.
04:14 We've-- Grayson Atkins is an All-American kicker
04:18 that transferred in from Furman.
04:19 And we've got a guy kicking it off out
04:21 of the end zone every time.
04:22 So all the pieces are there.
04:24 We've got Michael Carter and Daz Newsome returners.
04:26 So our special team should be really, really good for us
04:29 before the year is over.
04:30 Third ABC national game in a row is great for our exposure,
04:40 outstanding for recruiting.
04:41 It's something we haven't had happen in a while.
04:43 I'm not sure how long.
04:44 But everybody gets a chance to see you play.
04:48 So if you want to continue to be a top 10 team, a top five team,
04:52 then you've got to show it.
04:54 And you've got to show it every week.
04:55 You can't talk about it.
04:56 It doesn't matter.
04:57 What did you put on video?
04:59 What did you put on the field?
05:01 And what's everybody going to see?
05:03 And that's what makes the difference.
05:05 Florida guys on this team are really
05:07 excited about going to play Florida State.
05:09 That's something that wasn't on the schedule.
05:13 Michael Carter, he said he got 16 people coming to the game.
05:19 Kamari Morales said he's got 26 people coming to the game.
05:24 So they got a lot of family members
05:26 that will be down there around them.
05:29 Someone asked the other day about the '97 team.
05:32 That team had 22 players drafted off of it.
05:36 And three of them were first round draft choices
05:38 that year on defense.
05:40 So hopefully, we'll get back to where we look like that.
05:45 We're not that way right now.
05:46 We're a work in progress on defense
05:48 and have some more experience on offense.
05:50 And we're doing some good things.
05:52 But that team was really, really a special team and the best
05:56 defense in the country.
05:58 I also remember it being Coach Bowden's 68th birthday, which
06:02 is interesting as I look back at my age now
06:06 and his age at that time.
06:08 I remember the Florida State fans singing
06:10 happy birthday to him at the end of the game.
06:14 And he's supposedly getting out of the hospital
06:17 at the end of this week.
06:18 We want to continue to send him thoughts and prayers.
06:21 14 years of top four or better with two
06:23 national championships.
06:25 Nobody's done that.
06:26 It doesn't get any better than that.
06:28 So Coach Bowden was one of the best that has ever done it
06:35 and coached in this game.
06:36 And I keep that picture of he and I on the field
06:39 that night in '97 in my office just to remind me
06:43 of who we want to be.
