Transcript
00:00Reporter 2 Hey, Sam, what is your takeaway from this game?
00:05What you guys did in the second half to put yourself in position to maybe win the game
00:09with another player or two, or the hole that you dug in the first half that made it too
00:14much to overcome?
00:15Yeah, I mean, we obviously had a slow start.
00:18A lot of that was on me in the first half, I made some poor decisions in the first half.
00:22I mean, we didn't expect what we saw from the defensive side of the ball, but that's
00:26still not an excuse.
00:27I mean, we still should have been able to put points on the board in the first half.
00:32And I'm proud of the way we fought in the second half.
00:35We made a lot of plays in the second half, and we had a chance to win at the end, we
00:39just didn't pull it out.
00:40Thanks, appreciate it.
00:41Reporter 3 All right, Greg Barnes, go ahead, Greg.
00:46Reporter 4 Sam, the offense was 2 of 11 on third down.
00:51What were they doing that would give you fits on third down?
00:54Yeah, to go back and look at all of them, but yeah, I mean, just we have great success
01:01overall on third down a lot of that was on me.
01:04So let's go back and read about reevaluate the film and just learn from and get better.
01:09And what was the what was the key there in the third quarter for the offense to kind
01:13of get settled down even after the kind of the failure on that first possession to get
01:18settled down and get back in the game?
01:20Was there was any concern whatsoever?
01:22And kind of what was the game plan?
01:24I asked you a question again, I'm sorry.
01:30What was the key for the offense getting this rhythm in the second half?
01:33Yeah, I think we decided to settle down.
01:35I mean, just take what they're given.
01:37You know, we were starting to run the ball pretty well.
01:40And we ended up getting some one on one matchups for that they weren't giving us in the first
01:44half.
01:45And once they were doing that, we took advantage of them.
01:47Really, that was really the difference.
01:49Second half, we got a lot more one on one matchups.
01:51And the first half, we didn't get any third standing cover to man's play manner and equal
01:55to safety deep.
01:56Try to just try and take the deep ball away.
01:59So yeah, I mean, we just got some more one on one opportunities in the second half.
02:03I said,
02:04All right, back to CL Brown.
02:08Sam, how, how do you think this loss?
02:12What do you think this loss will mean in terms of the margin of error you guys have moving
02:16forward with an eye on trying to get to that ACC championship game?
02:22Yeah, we're not worried about that right now.
02:24We're just worried about getting back and just evaluating this film and getting better
02:28on and try to be a good interstate team next week.
02:31So we're staying at one week at a time.
02:33I think we know if we if we do, if we take care of our business, and we'll be where we
02:37want to be.
02:38And was there a point in the second half where where you knew you guys were going to win
02:43where where you felt like you were positioned, you know, to take this game?
02:48Yeah, I mean, I felt like that in the locker room, I have time to be honest with you on
02:53the type of guys we have.
02:54And I knew it's what this team we're going to fight to the end.
02:56I know, I really thought we were gonna pull it out then.
02:59But, you know, we didn't.
03:00So we just got to go back and learn from learn from the film and get better.
03:04Thanks.
03:05Okay, over to Isaac shade.
03:09Sam, I was just wondering, what do you do to pick your receivers up?
03:15Bo and Daz and Javante after those drops on the on the last series there?
03:20Yeah, I mean, they're fine.
03:22I mean, all three of those guys made some really good plays.
03:25And really, all three of those guys with the reason we had a chance to chance to even win
03:28at the end.
03:29So, you know, we just got to move on to the next game and don't let this game affect us
03:33moving on to next week.
03:34And, you know, those guys are fine.
03:36I mean, they know.
03:37I mean, obviously, it's just I mean, let's move on and get ready for next week.
03:43Good.
03:44Thank you.
03:45All right, last one for Sam comes from Gregory Hall, Gregory, go ahead.
03:51Sam, what was your message to your guys at halftime as you took the field in that third
03:56quarter?
03:57Yeah, I mean, I just don't fight.
03:59Don't look at the scoreboard.
04:00Just keep fighting and taking it one play at a time and just just keep fighting on.
04:05If we kept putting points up on the board, then we have a chance at the end and we had
04:08the chance and we just didn't pull it out.
04:11In a game where Florida State dominates you in the first half, is there a feeling that
04:15you have to be kind of perfect or almost flawless in the second half?
04:19Yeah, I mean, I think the main thing for us is when you when you dig a hole like that
04:23for yourself, the worst thing you can do is press and try to put pressure, more pressure
04:27on yourself.
04:28You just need to go out there and play loose and just try to have some energy and try to
04:31have fun with it.
04:32And that's what we tried to do in the second half.
04:35And we fought to the end and we just came out short.
04:39And how do you move on from missed opportunities when you know a game that you have to come
04:43back from so many from such a large deficit?
04:46How do you move on from those missed opportunities?
04:48Yeah, I mean, we just we just got to keep our keep our head up and get our eyes on the
04:54next one.
04:55Whether it's the next play next game, that's just the mentality of this team.
04:58I know we have some really good players on this team, and I think we're still gonna be
05:02successful this year.
05:03So we've got to get our eyes, get our head ready for the next game.
05:07Thanks.
05:08Yep.
05:09All right, Sam.
05:10Thank you.
05:11Appreciate it.
