Mack Brown on Wake Forest

UNC plays Wake Forest this week, and coach Mack Brown hopes the Tar Heels will be able to respond well after beating Duke, against a tough Deacs team that upset them last year.
Transcript
00:00 We beat Virginia Tech, we lose to Florida State.
00:03 We beat NC State, play really well, we lose to Virginia.
00:06 We beat Duke, now it's time for us to grow up and mature
00:09 and make sure that we grow from a win
00:12 and improve from a win instead of have a setback.
00:15 Last year, we were 2-0 when we went to Wake.
00:18 We had a lot of confidence.
00:20 They jumped out on us 21 to nothing.
00:22 They were more physical than we were.
00:25 They had more energy than we did,
00:27 and they were better coached.
00:29 You start looking at the last 12 games
00:31 with Carolina and Wake Forest, they've won seven,
00:33 we've won five.
00:35 So they're leading in this series in those last 12.
00:39 They also beat Virginia and Virginia Tech
00:41 in the last four games, and they've won four straight.
00:43 They've really improved.
00:45 You start looking at what Dave Clawson's done at Wake Forest
00:48 for a long time.
00:49 They're always well coached, and I never
00:52 thought he gets the credit for the way his teams play.
00:56 They always have really good players,
00:58 and they're never ranked really high in recruiting.
01:01 So they do a fantastic job in evaluating and developing
01:04 players, and they always play hard.
01:07 So you've got to give him credit.
01:08 You start looking at what wins football games.
01:11 They're number one in the country in turnover ratio.
01:16 They forced 15 turnovers and lost one.
01:19 And Sam Hartman hasn't thrown an interception all year,
01:23 and they're second in the league in penalties.
01:26 So those are areas that we'll have
01:28 to really do a good job in this weekend to have a chance to win.
01:32 Nine returning starters on defense.
01:35 Basham Jr.'s first round draft choice as a defensive lineman.
01:41 But a lot of guys back that kept us from moving the ball
01:44 last year.
01:45 Sam Hartman's really smart.
01:47 Again, no interceptions.
01:48 He can run the ball.
01:50 They have a very unique scheme.
01:52 We're both running backs.
01:54 Walker had 94 yards rushing against us last year.
01:57 They dominate the game with time of possession.
02:00 They're smart.
02:01 They play outstanding in the red zone
02:03 because they can run the ball.
02:05 So what they do well is what we haven't done as well.
02:07 We haven't done well controlling penalties,
02:10 and we haven't stopped the run really well.
02:12 And they do all of those things well.
02:15 And they have a slot in Roberson that's listed as maybe
02:20 the best slot in the country.
02:22 So we got our hands full.
02:25 I think the guys will understand that this year.
02:29 They can watch the video, and it speaks for itself.
02:32 So we're now two and two away from home.
02:35 We're three and oh at home.
02:36 Need to come home and do a great job of preparing
02:39 for Wake this weekend.
