00:00 Calling Captain Olivia Benson.
00:02 Oh, sorry, we mean Mariska Hargitay.
00:05 The actress recently took her role
00:07 as a long time NYPD officer a step further,
00:10 helping a real life child off camera
00:12 on the streets of New York.
00:14 According to People, the six year old was busy filming
00:17 one of the last episodes of the historic 25th season
00:20 of Law & Order SVU, April 10th,
00:22 when a lost child approached her looking for help.
00:25 The little girl apparently thought Mariska
00:27 looked the part of a real life police officer,
00:30 which only makes sense since she's been playing
00:32 the beloved detective Olivia Benson for nearly 25 years.
00:36 An eyewitness tells People that the young girl
00:38 apparently got separated from her mother
00:41 at the Ann Loftus Playground in NYC's Fort Tryon Park,
00:44 and Mariska wouldn't rest
00:46 until she reunited mother and child.
00:48 Even halting production for 20 minutes
00:50 to help the girl find her mom,
00:52 then spending some time with them
00:54 to make sure they were both okay.
00:56 Enews spoke with Mariska back in January
00:58 before the premiere of SVU's newest season,
01:01 and she dished about why after 25 years,
01:04 she still loves coming to set each and every day.
01:07 And I remembered, I turned to our camera operator
01:10 who I'm very close with and I go,
01:11 this is why I'm here.
01:14 It's so fun.
01:16 It's so fun sometimes.
01:20 And that's always been very important to me
01:22 that it's, I want everyone to want to come to work,
01:26 and they do.
01:28 And that means everything to me,
01:30 because we get it done, we know how to do it,
01:33 we've been doing it for a long time,
01:35 everyone is extremely invested,
01:38 and we like to laugh,
01:41 and we need to laugh,
01:44 and everyone is so funny,
01:47 and we have this incredibly intimate,
01:51 shared perspective.
01:53 We have so many memories, we have so much to laugh,
01:56 there's so many inside jokes, it's nonstop.
01:59 So the intimacy is
02:02 stunning.
02:06 She also reflected on her special connection
02:08 with series creator Dick Wolf,
02:10 and how blessed she feels to be a part
02:12 of the longest running drama series in TV history.
02:15 But then meeting a man who did it again,
02:19 and created something that no other human
02:21 in television has done.
02:22 And to be lucky enough to
02:24 have our stars collide in such a beautiful way
02:29 has been obviously one of the greatest gifts of my life.
02:34 (upbeat music)
02:36 (upbeat music)
02:39 (upbeat music)
02:41 you
