00:00 In accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:04 that the Philippines should become a tourism powerhouse in Asia,
00:08 the Tourism Department launched a program to strengthen tourism in the country.
00:15 This is what Rod Lagusa reported.
00:17 The world is ready to love the Philippines.
00:21 This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said
00:24 while the Department of Tourism continues to strengthen tourism in the country.
00:29 According to the President, aside from accommodation, accessibility activities,
00:33 there are also awards.
00:34 This challenge to elicit creativity will magnify the magnetism
00:39 of Philippine tourism is a step in that direction.
00:44 So I would like to congratulate the Department of Tourism
00:48 for striking a rich vein of talent
00:50 and tapping various stakeholders for innovative ideas
00:54 that will energize and enhance tourism development in our country.
00:59 The best way for tourists to join is through crowdsourcing ideas
01:05 and how to join and be one here.
01:07 This is what the President proposed,
01:10 the awarding ceremony of the Tourism Champions Challenge,
01:12 the program of the Department of Tourism that supports local tourism.
01:17 This is in accordance with the directive of the President
01:18 that the country should become a tourism powerhouse in Asia.
01:21 That's why the DOT launched the program
01:23 to strengthen tourism in the Philippines.
01:26 In the Tourism Champions Challenge, all cities and towns in the country
01:30 were invited to give their own proposals
01:33 or to develop an infrastructure project
01:36 that seeks to equalize tourism development and promotions across the Philippines.
01:43 These projects aim to enhance our local tourism destinations,
01:47 ensuring that no one is left behind in the development of the Philippine tourism industry
01:53 and that the capacity of our destinations
01:57 to ensure the full maximization of their potential as tourism destinations.
02:03 The proposed programs should be anchored in being sustainable,
02:06 inclusive, and resilient tourism.
02:08 Under the program, there will be technical assistance through capacity building
02:13 to help local governments in building and managing projects.
02:17 This includes the support of the DOT that can help in tourism projects
02:22 and the support of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, or TESA,
02:26 which launched the program in 2023.
02:29 The 15 local government units selected for tourism-related infrastructure projects
02:34 from different parts of the country were selected.
02:36 From here, the first place was named from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
02:40 Ambagyo Nueva Ecija, Tubigong Bohol, and Isabela City, Basilan received P20 million.
02:46 Our challenge in our image is huge.
02:49 For a long time, the Philippines' knowledge about Basilan was not good.
02:54 So with this opportunity, not only in terms of infrastructure development,
02:59 but also in correcting our image as a tourist destination.
03:04 Aside from this, the second place received P15 million,
03:07 P10 million in the third place,
03:09 P8 million in the second place,
03:11 and P7 million in the fifth place.
03:13 And in the presence of the President,
03:15 this was announced that there will be an additional P5 million for all the winners.
03:19 In total, 98 project proposals from 90 local governments
03:23 were accepted by the regional offices of HILTI.
03:25 And from here, it went through a tight selection process.
